Trying to understand the "Saturday Special" error, I realized that I had left out a Diesel Legends recommendation by Tonto62 . That has been added. I don't know much about UK rails, but I still don't get the "Saturday Special" thing .....
Doh!!! Just a slight difference in technology! Now that would be an interesting layer. Spreadsheet corrected ....
I have found a pretty good one. It's the DB 80209 Hagen-Finnentrop freight service on Ruhr-Sieg Nord starting at 11:10 AM with the BR 185.2. It's a pretty heavy train freight train which is cool in itself, but turn on PZB and SIFA and you'll be in for a treat. You'll be following a stopping service all the way to Finnentrop, with a lot of adverse signals and some sweet-sweet PZB action. Here's my speed graph. All the dips are double yellows.
I ran this in Mode U with a max speed of 100km/h and tried to keep it smooth, knowing that a stopping service was ahead of me. I still had plenty of dips! Great run.
I wanted to smooth it out and get a run like yours! This is a run that I come back to and enjoy regularly. If we ever get to the a point where we can substitute consists, I would love to try this with something heavy.
Running in Mode M doesn't mean you have to do 120- a speed limit is a limit, not a target! Besides, all German freight stock modeled in game is limited to 100 km/h max when loaded, regardless of mode. In fact, Mode M with a 100 vmax is far more relaxing, because you only have to brake down to 70 rather than 55 on the magnets.
With the BR101 on HRR, IC2157 Duisburg-Bochum was a great one. Your start will be delayed at Duisburg as you are following a RE11 that departs just before you do, all the way to Bochum. You will see plenty of traffic on the line and you will encounter plenty of adverse signals.
If you want to operate the the train that 89119 is supposed to help out spawn in at Aschaffenburg as DB83137 14:32. If you spawn on foot you cannot operate those. Tried it with 00:27 DB83173 to which I had to ride as a 2nd man. I used this https://train-sim-world.fandom.com/wiki/Service_Timetable:_Main-Spessart_Bahn
This happened in real life, which was one of the main reasons DB built the new tunnel and bypassed the Ramp.
I found one in Peninsula Corridor. MP15DC DLC. The Scenario is called Ballasting Act. Why: This involves using the Service Selector switch. I did it once before I knew about this, took me an hour because the shunter won't go faster than 15 mph in the default setup. I found a guide written by geloxo on steam, which clued me in that I need to set the selector to Road(auto) at a certain time. Then this scenario became more faster than the first time I ran it. I love that DTG simulated that detail but hate the fact that they don't let you know you have to do it, so if you are not aware of the fact, it becomes a tedious job. But once you figure it out, you are constantly using the service selector as you are adjusting the throttle.
I couldn't get it to work- the train choked out about halfway up the ramp (yes, with Banking Comm on). Do you need to go set up the lead engine first or something?
It has been a while since I have run it. However, I do not recall having trouble getting up the hill when I ran it as a continuation of service 89119. If I had to do it again, I would probably just walk to the lead engine after attaching the helper on the rear and drive from there. That avoids all the trouble with not being able to see the front (and signals) when you are camera locked it the tunnel. Once I reached the top, I would walk back to the rear helper and sit down to take it over before I uncoupled it with the 8 cam. That way, it wouldn’t leave without me and I could continue the turn.
BR101 on HRR: IC2408 - you can make it in time but stay alerted. Red & yellow while following another train that starts right before yours
OK, that isn't working either. I can take over the front cab, but have zero throttle function (yes, the reverser is set)
Not as far as I‘m aware. Technically, the throttle is your tractive force selector (it‘s even called that in German), but that‘s another discussion.
I don’t recall issues with that when I did it. I will check it out myself when I get the chance. Any issues shutting down the banker cab master switch and releasing the brakes?
Found the problem- in the old cab I had to hit the brake cut-out button before leaving. My first run I choked out just because I was too delicate: for these shoves you need to slam the throttle to the stops and get as much speed as you can (45-50) before gravity takes hold.
Reposted with permission from cwf.green in the Driving Technique under PZB thread: HRR IC 2255 - Duisburg Hbf - Bochum Hbf. It has quite a few red signals due to (I think) trains going in the opposite direction having to cross your tracks. It also has an extra stop at Mülheim (Ruhr) which might not be realistic (?), but a fun addition.
Well actually, the IC 2255 in real life stops at Duisburg 08:29-08:31, Mülheim (Ruhr) 08:37-08:39, Essen Hbf 08:46-08:48, Bochum 08:56-08:58, so yes, the stop at Mülheim is realistic. Don´t know if the times are the same in the game...
09:21 Leeds - Manc Victoria Express (NTP) nice run with a few spanners thrown in the works along the way!
On the Diesel Legends dlc, 2A47, 0923 Paddington to Slough all stations. When you leave Paddington, a locomotive will be waiting to return to the depot. It's driver will race you as far as he can before he turns off for Old Oak Common. A class 45 when I did it last night. Brilliant!
Hauptstrecke Rhein-Ruhr IC 2421 (BR 101) @ 10:54 Short and alluring. RED fun with passing some frightened freight train, changing the tracks a dozen or so meters ahead. It looks good \o/
Good point but if you're playing 10:09 Lohr to Gemünden the 09:45 Heigenbrücken to Gemünden will get to Lohr first then will have the priority over the 10:09 Lohr to Gemünden train. Once the 09:45 Heigenbrücken to Gemünden train proceeds then it's your turn to go. Even the 12:10 Lohr-Gemunden trip gets Stuck at Langenprozelten because of a Double header formation DB BR185
CRR 93 Northbound Manifest with the F7 at 06:56. A nice view of the sunrise if you don't run it in summer. And, it's the F7. Spoiler You encounter a SB coal run pulling into Dante as you leave, a SB manifest along the route, and you cross paths with the Berta switcher, which is also a good service.
The Train on your right is actually the 09:45 Heigenbrücken to Gemünden Limited Stops. If you are playing the Heigenbrücken to Gemünden limited stop Train you're going to have priority over the 10:09 Lohr to Gemünden local train. Same thing happens to 12:09 Lohr to Gemünden train is that you let DB 88120 first then go. The first westbound trip from Gemünden the 05:40 to Aschaffenburg has to be held at Heigenbrücken to let a Banker locomotive service & DB 88101. If you are late with 05:40 Gemünden to Lohr at Wiesthal DB88101 freight service will be behind you.
With the usual assists from Leadcatcher and Callum B, the spreadsheet is updated and now has over 110 recommended runs. Please let me know if there are any errors! Hopefully, none will be quite as egregious as the last one - not all 101s are the same. https://drive.google.com/file/d/14YgilvnKZFc7TJXyqftRJ0I5yTMlMf81/view?usp=sharing Edit: spreadsheet updated through the 313F/313 and HRR IC 2307 recommendations below.
Really enjoying this, just wanted to point out that in the Spreadsheet, one of the GWE service titles says "Rare start from Newhaven Marine" and the Duren-Aachen ECS move is in there twice, with the second one labeled as a BR442 (Talent 2) service. But these are some great services, really enjoying the CalTrain ones
Thanks for the corrections! I will clean up the spreadsheet. I also wanted to add the Peninsula Corridor Race to the list. A great run with a really fun - and tricky - loco. You will encounter adverse signals so have a PC signal chart handy to know the proper speeds. It will take a score greater than 13,024 to beat Sam! Penninsula Corridor 320 at 0734 SF to SJ with the F40PH-2CAT.
Of course I posted my reply and forgot to add my recommendation. Peninsula Corridor train 313F/313. Train comes out of CEMOF at 6:35, then departs San Jose at 6:49 on one of the Baby Bullet trains that does not stop at Redwood City. A fairly calm run, but nice for those who enjoy a good express commute at sunrise overtaking a slower train or two.
From breblimator : DB BR 101 on HRR: IC2307 A great run, but there is a challenge that Breblimator has laid down in this thread: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/br-101-dangerous-rails.39967/#post-308444 Rules are: 1. Go for IC 2307 in the timetable. MSB layer could be mandatory for some reasons. 2. Weather conditions: Winter, Blizzard. 3. No HUD after departure (F1). 4. SIFA & PZB turned ON. Be sure to post your results in the challenge thread. Driving the 101 without a HUD in those conditions was awesome and crazy hard!
Let me see the route that the development team did and you don't want to end up like JD having the least points at 12,714 points. Also Doing the Jaime move which is lap braking early
IC2450 on HHR with the BR101 seems to be cool as well. You start out at 12:22, but you have to wait till you can go as you get overtaken by a slow freight train while still at the station.
... that you are allow to overtake right before Duisburg if I remember correctly Was one of the best services with 101 I think
Yes, posted it before I actually ran the service. That one PZB braking for a red signal is also so hard.
I've had a troublesome freight run yesterday ... and almost ran a red light. I think it's similar to DB85853 but I haven't compared both runs. You need to be awake right from the beginning, especially when you've had 98% of "easy-greens" all the runs before ;-) Spoiler: Spoiler The 2nd signal you encounter is already red and you have to let traffic pass. Then you follow some other train and don't think about going faster than 40 km/h ... yellows ... reds ... After you are allowed to travel like 30 km all of the sudden yellow and then red and you run at 100+ km/h usually in that moment. München - Augsburg, DB BR182 (could be any other loco, I chose this one because of current RailDriver support) Service: DB85861
DB BR 101 Hamburg - Lubeck. You follow a stopping service, lots of yellows & reds. Some signals very close, remember to brake hard!
This really is an excellent run with a great loco. I must admit I am warming up to the Hamburg - Lubeck route and anticipate putting more than a few kilometers on it, especially once the 1000hz magnet for 500hz magnet bug gets fixed. It is IC 2220 with the 101 on HHL. It is a challenge to stay on time and a particular challenge to run without the F1 HUD. Just remember to PZB acknowledge all active magnets 250 meters from a stop. My best stop and doors open time in Lubeck is 13:01. I look forward to running this again! Edit: The 500hz magnet bug is fixed and PZB on HHL should behave as expected.
The return service, IC 2221, is also a great run! Spoiler For both 2220 and 2221, you deal with red signals caused by local traffic near Hamburg. Often, the train you are following is in visible stopped at the platform ahead.
