Metrolinx, the operators of the Union Pearson Express, as well as GO Transit, are responsible for mass transit via rail in the Toronto region. The track section is also used by the national passenger train service, VIA Rail. This section of track, would be home to the following lines:

    • Go Transit: Kitchener Line (Brampton-Union), Lakeshore East Line (Union-Oshawa)
    • Union Pearson Express (Union-Toronto Pearson Airport)
    • VIA Rail: Sarnia-Toronto (Brampton-Toronto), Toronto-Montreal (Toronto-Oshawa)

Each company uses different rolling stock, some of which is already in the simulator within other DLCs.

    • GO Transit: MPIXpress (MP40PH-3C), Bombardier Bi-Level Coaches (including the new IX generation cab cars).
    • Union-Pearson Express: Nippon Sharyo DMU
    • VIA Rail: P42DC, EMD F40PH-2D, LRC Coaches, Budd Company Stainless Steel Coach Cars, Alstom Renaissance Cars

I don't even have to read this. See here.

The same map you post has also appeared on the TSW side of the forums. So this is a very popular request. I suspect we'll see it sooner or later, but whether we get a freight route (as my post gave an idea to, I also have an SD75I thread and the train goes well with that IMO) or whether we get a GO Transit setup or two, this could be something that works well.

The only concern with a GO network is length. Niagara Falls is far. So is Kitchener. And that's just from Toronto. So on the TS side, I could see a pair of DLC linking up, but I suspect it would not go beyond Hamilton for the Niagara line with an east and west DLC, which can later be merged by someone like Danny if he's so inclined.

BTW, look to the far right, bottom of the names there. We have a Newcastle too.

In any case, since it gives me an excuse to give clarity to the route layout, let's look at the actual track map. You can match up the names for each route.

I agree the routes are lengthy, thats why I suggested shortening them to Brampton and Oshawa

But then the question is which route is important enough to include? Oshawa has a free route on OpenRails from Maple Leaf Simulations, and there's a 200+ km route for more of Toronto that is payware (a freight route, too). If we indeed see GO here, I'm more inclined to think the Hamilton to Oakville part will get extended into Union Station, and there would likely be another route in the other direction out of Union. I can see Hamilton still being a terminus. But would they continue to Oshawa or just stay to the west? No matter what they do, they have to develop another line.

Frankly, if they want to wrap around Lake Ontario, start at Niagara Falls, go to Union, continue to Oshawa. You get all the water shots you could want, the Hamilton yard, the Oshawa yard, and more on the way. Likely too long, however.

A lot more merit in this proposal than in yet another British emu route in the London area. Eastern Canada has, so far, been totally neglected (except by Open Rails).

Heck, they could pay me and I'd head that way to do the research for them. A couple hours driving for me. :D Only problem is gas is 150% what it was a year ago ATM...
