A simple question. I already own the original, TS2 and TS3 and with each release a promise that everything I have purchase will be available in the next version. Yet so much content is missing. So please can someone tell me why after the addons I have purchased for all 3 versions should I now purchase yet another version?
Its only just been a year since you last released TS3 (Sept 2022) and now you release this.
In a time where everyone is feeling the squeeze, why can you not just update TS3 and make this better for the multiple users who have purchased it.
    Feels like a constant con.

I can only speak for myself but if you wanna continue to expand your collection and like the new/updated features I guess?

We all know how dtg operates and what they do when it comes to updates, features and their practices etc, they're unlikely to change so it's pretty much up to the individual on how much will they have left.

Judging by the current state of both TSW3 & 4, you shouldn't.

    Look at this thread:
    https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/enough-is-enough.72535/
Look at the Steam reviews for TSW4:
    https://store.steampowered.com/app/2362300/Train_Sim_World_4/

Fanboys or not, we all know the issue with this game franchise very well. And DTG is aware of the anger and disappointment in a big part of their costumers, but doesn't care anything about it because it's probably the only way how the business keeps on rolling the way they used to. Time will show if this strategy will be successful on the long term.

But in the end, it completely depends on your interest in the new content and new functionality. If you want to try that out, grab TSW4 on discount (just like I did it). If you don't think it's worth it, just stick with the older versions.

What do you mean? The only content that is missing in newer iterations is the original NEC route and the loco DLC for that route. All the other routes and locos as playable in TSW 4.

It's relative to promised features in the prior sentence.
"and with each release a promise that everything I have purchased will be available in the next version. Yet so much content is missing."

It's because player who are not that familar with Dovetail Games do not distinguish between TSC (former TS) and Train Sim World so much. And to be honest, they are not so extremely wrong with that, because in some kind of broad sense TSW could be indeed seen as successor of TS. It's the hole Dovetail digged into which they fall themselves a bit in cases like that.

Just remember that there is a lot of good, you just have to look hard for it.

But perhaps not enough good for it to be worth paying for.

I don't know, like I've said you just need to look.

The good bits are there, and it may be surprising, but the good bits outweigh the bad mostly.

Would be fine if they were committed to fixing the bad, but either they can't or won't.

What reason do you have to do so, though?

Because then I wouldn't be playing the game if I focused on every single thing wrong with it. There are two sides to the same coin, you know. ;)

Whether the 30€/$ are worth for the standard edition, is a subjective thing to one's own opinion after all what happened.

It's completely irresponsible to put fixes behind a paywall (if they happen at all - sad laughing) and a shame that so many errors and incompatibilites still exist in TSW4. Not to even mention broken promises.

However, the new routes are not that bad to be honest, even if you're not interested in some or even all of them. It takes time and effort to create them, which I can understand has to be paid at some point.

I struggled myself hard to whether get it or not, but in the end I just got 3 routes + the new features for little under 30€ (which marks less than 10€/per route) in the last Halloween sale with -35% off standard edition.

I guess there will be a similar or even better sale for Black Friday or Christmas, including the Deluxe and Special Editions.

At least for me (and with the premise I will find no more gameplay-braking bugs in the next weeks) this seemed like a good offer although it's just in comparison to DTG's ridiculous price standards. However, a good offer keeps a good offer and I would advise anyone interested in TSW4 to take a look at the upcoming sales.

There is a chance that you will get TSW4 on Humble Bundle next year for an even more ridiculous offer (just like I got TSW3 this July), short before TSW5 comes out, but I wouldn't bet on it and it's still a quite time to go there. So, it's just a hint for anyone interested.

If you feel betrayed by DTG stay away from it, but if you're actually still interested in the new content and just don't want to pay them more than needed, then sales like these are your best choice. And it seems for me at least as fair payout for the people who created these routes, and don't necessarily have anything to do with the company's business strategy, in my opinion.

This opinion might be subject to change.

Depends. The new routes are fine, if you want them, buy TSW4.

As a platform to run your old content, it fails imho. RRO is broken, Munich-Augsburg timetable is broken, rain is now falling in tunnels etc. Read the forums.

Also, many mods have stopped working on TSW4.

If you’re looking for an “updated” game to run your old DLC on, I wouldn’t count on it for that too much. A lot of old DLC is broken on TSW4. It also has a lot of core game bugs that still need to be fixed and based on past history with DTG, it could be a long time before they are fixed, some of which are likely to never be addressed no matter how many times we bring them up. I’m not saying TSW4 is necessarily bad. With the proper mods, I’ve found a way to enjoy it. But it does almost feel like it’s still in a beta stage and for what you pay for it, that’s ridiculous. Especially when you start using it and see all that’s wrong with it. Honestly, it’s probably more worth the money when it’s on sale over full price you pay now. It seems like a major cash grab, unsurprisingly. Like I said, it’s definitely not like, horrible or anything. It just has a ways to go and if DTG actually does care, they’ll give it the attention it needs and listen to us before they shift all focus onto TSW5 that’ll probably release next September. Buy at your own risk but I’d wait until it’s on sale.

Simple answer. You want to play the new content released for TSW? You’ll need to purchase TSW4. End of discussion.
