Good post Just a few corrections, and some further detail: 1. Hohe abbremsung actually extinguishes at 170 km/h, not 160 km/h. The real manual states 160 km/h, but we confirmed it is 170 on the real locomotive (don't ask me why) and this is implemented in the BR 101 Expert. X. "ZS aus" also is a very important indicator for drivers (especially on the Expert formations). It means that the "Zugsammelschienen" or electric train supply is disabled. Without the ZS the coaches are not being supplied with electrical power. 10. The Notbremse light initially is flashing when a passenger emergency brake signal is received in the locomotive/cab car. When NBÜ (Notbremsüberbrückung or emergency brake override) is used by the driver (train brake lever pushed forward to the FÜ position) the light becomes steady to indicate that the emergency brake has been overriden. 13. It should illuminate if the electric brake has stopped working on even a single traction motor. There is a "bug" on the real locomotive, which is simulated, where if the electric brake is applied below 10 km/h but the train does not stop quickly enough one traction motor may cut out it's electric brake and then this light will illuminate. Releasing the electric brake will clear the fault and the light will extinguish. Bring up the Z/Br page and test it next time in the game Basically there are quite a few different conditions where this light can illuminate (iirc it will illuminate if you go into service braking if one TM on each bogie is disabled, since then the locomotive switches to pneumatic braking only, but I could be misremembering, but the simulation here is very complex and there are a bunch of different cases with different electric brake blending behaviour) but in all these situations the light indicates that the electric brake is behaving non-normally.
Thats the kind of things you come across when dealing with real trains and their configurations. If you are lucky a coniguration is related across the entire fleet, which is very rare. The reality is mostly, loco number xx to yy have this and the other are with different configurations. On top the manuals can be either out of date or contain errors. This bombardier traxx manual says "relaisventil" twice, which is only true for the one above left. The other to the brakecylinders is the "Druçkübersetzer". So yes every train has its unique changes, and if not written down in a document, overhaul and repair become a nightmare.
Its really beyond in terms of detail , here to say keep up the good work! Looking forward to more expert dlcs.
My personal guess will be either a shunter or freight loco (traxx, 189, es64). A loco which can be used across the many german routes. The entire development for the 1116 to run on 3 routes? Hmm, only tsg knows
I just want properly done Taurus and/or RailJet so bad not that 1116 was done like really bad, but it has a couple annoying things going against it (LZB shenanigans not done correctly, and I am not sure AFB can be overriden by manual braking etc. not a big deal on routes we have, but still I would love the whole loco to be done properly and able to use it as BR 101 Expert)... or OBB 1144, I believe that one is also approved for Germany?
Hey everyone! Sorry that this is taking so long, but at the very least I can tell you that we found a way to make the index work, huge thanks to Foobian for that! (there was more research into it than it looks, I promise). We just need to fill it, but here is an example page of how it is going. Currently the focus has been on acronyms, but I do intend to add German expressions in it. Keep in mind that we still have to figure out a good way to make the LSS (circuit breaker) layout page look good and useful...If we can't, I might kill this idea entirely because it doesn't exactly serve a major purpose, since we already have a table that lists all of the LSS and their functionalities. It also been brought to my attention that a redditor also found navigating the faults page has been pretty difficult. As such I am going to add some extra organisation by grouping them according to their subsystem (the KON, PNEU, etc...). Remember also that the publishing of this version will also depend on how fast the German version can be produced. Again, sorry that this has been taking so long, I really wish we could work faster, but we should be about 90% done on the V2.0, now to go through the remaining 10% which if you know anything about a big project, translates to an extra 90% of work! *laughs*
So how are you supposed to set the PZB from 55 to 85 when there is no back wall panel and the version on the TCS computer won't let you add the numbers?
The pzb mode is just the result by your brake data (brh / br%), which are set on the ZDE panel in cab1 on the backside of the wall. (On the mfd 101, the traindata are entered over the display) I suggest to read the manual if you have trouble on those steps
I read the manual it says "Dardurch wird die zugdatenenagbe aufgeruen. Geben Sie dort die werte wie zuvor beschreben uber die Softkey en." in image so not possible to transfer. However it doesn't let you add the numbers to the boxes on the display, if you use the bottom buttons nothing happens, use the arrows still nothing happens. So without getting the correct number issued by the signaller it is limited. Though I have found even accelerating as fast as possible anyway it is painfully slow. It is not even possible to trip the PZB in start program even if I tried and this is on 8 coach passenger train. I don't know if replacing the ZDE permits more power or I need to acces the menu behind the security code but I don't have a login and there doesn't look to be one in the manual.
Welcome a step closer to the "real" railway. The expert 101 focuses to replicate the real loco in all possible aspects. I recommend spend a bit time and try things, it will be rewarded.
I have worked on real railways before, you would never end up with trains being speed restricted to less than 50% of the timetabled speed and barely able to climb hills because the driver was prohibited access to the code to operate at normal. It puzzles me as to why there are also features included that are also not allowed to be discussed online as I have just recently found out. Having discussion of the inner workings of EMD power units classified information is one thing as it isn't required to be able to make the locomotive work in TSW (I have even found them to be easier to operate in TSW than some GE locomotives with conventional four stroke diesels), but having something simulated that restricts the ability to actually use it without these login credentials and the response to my comment on YT telling me I should not be asking for confidential information (simply how to find the login to reset limp mode) makes it pointless to have it in a simulation game. I don't even know if this is real information or something I am supposed to get from some discord "operating company". Surely if I had access to these locos and had login credentials as a driver, I would be driving them for real and not in TSW. This whole applying for simulation roles via discord groups and unofficial training trend that is going on is spoiling the fun of just driving stuff I bought, (and that's not just because I got fired from a virtual power station out of the blue for no reason at all). However it seems there are no login codes in the manual that I can tell as I can't read German, I can't download the English version, and I can't translate the document as I don't have the full payware Adobe studio. I can't right click to copy to translate so I have to type it out in Google Translate every time which is not easy when several words use characters not on a standard layout.
Why can you not download the English manual? It’s available online, if you were able to download the German one you should also have access to the englisch one: https://media.dovetailgames.com/Manuals/Train Sim World 4 DB BR 101 Expert Driver's Manual.pdf Also, I would really be interested to learn what classified data should be required to drive this train Could you post a link to this video, please?! As to your technical problems, unfortunately I don’t really understand the issue. The limited speed could be the result from not entered values into your ZDE. But there may be other issues as well, hard to tell without knowing what exactly you did…
I could barely get up to the PZB speed, if I put it in to full power it would lose traction immediately but if I try around 60% power I can retain traction but it takes several minutes to get to just 45kmh (8 Passenger load) and by that time the PZB start has ended. Eventually I can apply full power but as soon as I hit a gradient of more than 0.5% the speed begins to drop. I know this is not the brakes dragging as going down the same gradient even with the power off leads to it gaining speed. It was honestly as if I was hauling 8 coaches with the other 101 but only on one engine. Unfortunately I can't get video footage as the only video software I managed to get to work (OBS) now uses script loader installation which I have no idea how to do. The data I didn't have was the 6 digit code after you enter the vehicle code (101142), or do you mean the whole asking about EMD internals thing?
I have never seen this behaviour. Could it be that you were running on only one traction motor? Regarding the code, you said you were told in a yt comment not to ask for such data. This was the video link I was interested in. I highly doubt that you need any of this to operate this simulation…
This works exactly as it is described in the manual for me. Hit Zug-Besy, ZDE, enter all the numbers, hit E, then confirm with PZB Wachsam, done. Never seen the other behaviour you described either.
It was slipping but I eased back the power to the point where it stopped which was around 60% to begin with but it should have accelerated quicker than that, I reckon the BR204 could do better at that amount of throttle. I didn't know traction motors would have to be turned on separately. The auxiliary compressor MCB was the only thing that kept tripping off every time I tried to turn it on, there was also an error on the train computer but I couldn't find a code number to quote it. I looked in my YT notifications and the response to the comment has gone. I'm pretty sure it was on Train Sim TVs video on the DLC that I asked how to login to the menu. I can't remember the name of whoever replied but today I asked a question on another Train Sim TV video and now just switched to a different browser that I wasn't logged in to my Google account to see if it was there and the new comment is gone so it seems he has blocked be for asking for the login information yesterday. It definitely seems I am not supposed to be asking for this.
Excuse the double post, but I think I just realized what you're talking about. Is this the screen that's confusing you? If so, this is not a "maintenance login" or anything like that requiring a secret password. You enter the number of the service you're operating, ie if you're running IC 1294, enter 001294, in the top field (not the number of the locomotive - the loco already knows its own number). The bottom field is for your driver ID. Train drivers in Germany have a unique identification number, which they have to enter there. Obviously, we're playing a game and do not have a driver ID, so the locomotive is happy to accept any number at all entered into this field. You don't get access to any secret maintenance menu or similar for filling this out - it's just metadata for the data logger on the loco. You do not have to turn them on individually. You can turn them off (and then on again) individually, but they're on by default.
That's it, but if it doesn't fix it running really slow how do I reset this limp mode? Edit: I tried running in free roam so there's no timetable to mess up, this time it is still going rather slow and when I try to enter the ZDE the buttons still do nothing. The ZDE system in the cab at the back of the train works but it does not affect the data at the 101 end. The system also keeps saying what sounds like "sturdong" and "kurfreigaber" frequently when the train is moving.
I think we really do want to help and I am sorry, but what you are writing is so confusing and with every post it somehow sounds different. Now it sounds like you are moving between the loco and the cab car?! That obviously does not make any sense. I understand that you can not post a video but would you not be able to at least post screenshots? Otherwise, I am afraid, no one will be able to help… at least not me, I am really confused.
Please make a new thread to discuss this. This thread is for manual questions/feedback Also, it would help a lot if you could take screenshots or recordings of what you are doing, as others stated it is a bit hard to follow what your actual issue is and what you are doing: but please, in a different thread.
Hey all, happy new year! Just to let you know that V2.0 has pretty much been complete for a month. Why isn't it out yet? Unfortunately, we do not have any resources to translate it into German at present...That's the main problem I was mentioning previously. For V1.0, all of the manpower in the team was focused on the 101 Expert, and thus just before the release, 2 of the main actors, Lukas and Foobian could work on the manual with me and that's why the German version was this readily available. Since then however, they have moved on to more current projects which require a lot of care of attention as well! Therefore, they are not available to translate this extra tens of pages and updates to existing ones. I will try to seek out a solution, but I cannot make any promises as of yet. I also can't guarantee to honour volunteers from the community who could wish to do that translation for us. Many apologies for the time this has taken.
Is there any reason besides the translation to hold it back? I would think releasing the finished update in English (which could, if absolutely necessary, be auto-translated by users) would make more sense than holding it back altogether.
We made it sort of policy to make sure that both versions are available at the same time, basically. Given that there is a large amount of German speakers who also make use of the manual, it would potentially be a bit unfair if the English version is the only one available, especially if it is that difficult to get the German version out.
Hello! Another update for you! Lukas has accepted to take the translation of the V2.0 into German, so for now, we're sorted! I don't know when it's gonna be ready but I do know that we're closer to it being ready now than before. Does it mean that this is the end of the aventure for the 101 Expert Manual? Probably not. I have been listening to feedback and seeing some examples of people trying to circumvent having the use the entire manual because they are looking for very specific things, or it might be very complicated to use. Additionally, I also know that people have been printing the manual and that therefore they don't necessarily have the digital wayfinding that is otherwise available on the PDF version. So, for the time being, I am looking into new ways to improve the experience of using the manual for everybody. I understand that it is already a very beefy block of information, and that it's only getting even bigger! So whilst it might get bigger if some extra things are added to the 101 Expert & Cab-Car, which will of course be added to the manual, I'll also be looking into making some matters simpler for you. As always, thank you for your renewed patience and support, and I hope to bring you some more good news soon!
damn, I wish that such love went into every product ... I mean, DTG and others who do stuff for this game, tutorials are still haha, and manuals almost always cover only the basics... the thing is, many times the developer implements stuff for advanced users, like certain features, physics etc., but if you want to learn it, you have to scrounge and scour every corner of the internet for information, which sometimes might be a problem, cos a lot of that advanced info is confidential railway stuff from IRL manuals etc. ... but then, how is someone supposed to learn it? most recent example for me was me returning to Bakerloo Line / 1972 stock after a long time, and I was trying to find details about power levels on the combined power/brake controller (Shunt, Series and Parallel)... had to go through like 10 in-depth videos and some articles, until I FINALLY found an article where Transport for London directly answered a question related to this I always write so much lol... anyway, this manual even in its current form is great, cos it explains a great deal of stuff, and you keep adding more so looking forward to the updated manual... not sure if it is incorporated or not, or if you updated it (havent played Expert 101 in a while, so dont remember the manual that well), but for me probably the most helpful piece of advice would be maybe even more expanded section on troubleshooting - like, lets say I get a fault, you get stuff in manual what to do, but maybe add stuff lets say what to do if you try to close a circuit breaker and it pops back open... maybe tips on how to better gauge the seriousness of the situation, if to soldier on or just screw it all and restart y know, maybe some extra crutches for those who can play this DLC but sometimes struggle cos they arent fully expert yet )) anyway, great effort, cheers
Here's an extract from V2.0: I heard feedback like yours a few times, so I decided to include this checklist to diagnose and fix faults in a bit more of a generic way. As indicated, there is this checklist, as well as another set of instruction if the instruction becomes "Take the Cab-Car out of service" or "Call a rescue locomotive". I hope it's enough for now, but if it it isn't, let me know and I can try and see what to do for next time.
sounds great maybe in later versions it would be useful to clarify some terms like "reduce load limit to %" and such but the excerpt sounds pretty great, nice to print out and have handy which reminds me, I should really make a chart with consists with BR 101 Expert and their BrH and train data values to have handy
Alright, I know this is another backtrack, but it's a necessary one. As most of you have probably figured, this manual took too long of a time to be updated into its V2 version. This basically took the schedule to be far closer to what was to be a "V3". As such, we're gonna skip V2 altogether, and move the manual directly into V3, which will the be Final version (unless there's any reason to revise it, but there are absolutely no plans to do so). The previous changelog is still valid, and I will have another list of changes for this version. I can already offer a bit of an insight as to what I intend to include: A completely revamped digital wayfinding in the faults chapter. It was one of my main complaints, that it was just too difficult to find the fault that was actually occuring, particularly in the BR 101 section. I have 2 ideas to simplify that process a lot, hopefully I can implement both, but that remains to be seen. Extra chapters about features that have been added in the previous update. I intend to also make a schematic to show all of the valves and their function in the BR101. I also want to try and make basic schematics about the ASG, the air/braking system...But that's mostly a wish right now, I'm still trying around to see if it's viable. Alongside that, I intend to seperately release (unofficially) some reduced versions of the manual: Checklists, Faults, the MTD pages of the 101, and the ZDE chapter. Speaking of ZDE chapter, I'm going to add the braked weight data of the passenger carriages used in the game, to make it just a bit easier to calculate. So now I turn to you, the community, for feedback once more. This is going to be the Final version, so I do want to make it count. I want to make sure that there are no more big flaws when it comes to the manual, to navigating it, etc. So please, if you have anything that you didn't like/want to see improved in this version, let me know ASAP! Thank you!
not fully related, but I was thinking, when I have time and energy first of all, that I would try and compile different consists on various routes and their train data, will see ... got a couple in my file, but since then like 2 or 3 fully expert timetables have been added, so
Any update on how the work on V3 of the manual is progressing? An updated manual would really make this DLC even more immersive...
Hey! Sorry I forget to check the forums these days x') In progress, there are few new pages, and I've started working on the "digital wayfinding" for the faults and have a working prototype for the Cab-Car's chapter. Basically, if you use the manual as a PDF, you can click on the indicators at the start of the chapter to go to the diagnosis/solving steps directly from there, and at the end of that sub-chapter, you can click on a sort of "Back to top" button to go back to the start of the chapter. I'm planning to add that for the BR 101 as well of course and hopefully make it far easier to go around the translations of the 101's faults. I will also include these in a sort of Quick Reference Handbook (QRH), basically a short version which only includes the faults and failures chapter if you only want to work on these, but that will be released elsewhere as it's not going to be truly official like the main manual is. Another note is: Some of you might be following William's thread, and notice that there are some features that have been submitted to DTG to update at some point in the future. If these make it in, I will be sure to also integrate these in the manual. At present, I do not know when it will be released. It should be this year of course! But I don't know a more exact timeframe.
Thank you for the update. I feel the community will be waiting for the manual eagerly whenever it finally comes out. Wish the author all success in this difficult endeavour.
I had the following fault message when driving on KWG under LZB : "4 Ersatzkreuzungsstellen gebildet" which led to a emergency brake application. Just curious to know what that actually means as i did not really found anything in the Manual or couldn't make sense of it. After i freed myself i could continue under PZB and the message was also gone. So assuming everything behaved as intended. Afterwards LZB kicked in also again
That was a LZB transmission fault. I don't think that is in the current version of the manual (but will be in the next one). This is how you should react to this failure: 1. When the LZB Ü light starts flashing on the MFA/MFD (second "Zugbeeinflussung" callout) press PZB Release ("PZB Frei"). You have 10 seconds to respond or a penalty brake application is triggered. 2. The LZB Ü light will go out. Without delay, start braking to below 85 km/h. 3. Once below 85 km/h the "85" light on the MFA/MFD will start to flash. Press "PZB Frei" again. 4. Call the dispatcher ("Fdl") and inform them of the transmission fault (this would be done with the ]2[ key). 5. This part I'm not 100% sure on, so take it with a grain of salt, but from my understanding the driver will pay attention to optical signals even when LZB is active (some signals will be dark though when LZB is active). If you were able to see and pay attention to optical signals for 4 km (if above 160 km/h, otherwise 2 km) before the transmission fault occured (and they were green) then you can accelerate back up to the maximum allowed speed (less than or equal to 160 km/h in PZB O), otherwise you have to continue braking down to 40 km/h and travel at this speed for 2 km, observing all the signals you pass.
Thx for the fast reply, its impressive the more i drive that Loco. As described by you, i simply didn't reacted in time. I've clipped the whole process and rewatched it so it absolutely makes sense. Really looking forward to the update, ive heard some interesting things will be added. Like i said, its impressive to see how deep the simulation goes. Now i know what to do if this fault happens to me again, although i could imagine its quite rare.
yep, super impressive... and there are certain feature I would LOVE if they carried over to non-expert locos as well - PZB/LZB data entry, working GSM-R, fully simulated coaches (like the braking systems, so Sifa Zw. actually matters)...
To add to this, really brake as much as you can after pressing PZB/LZB Frei/Release, sometimes I think braking at like step 5 or 6 is enough; it isn't. Max braking almost all the way! As confirmed by William, that is currently not a feature of the version 1.0 of the manual, that was supposed to be on 2.0 but after all of the problems we encountered with it, we moved it to the final version, still in production. Unfortunately we have no set date yet but I will let you know once I have more information!
Hey all! As some of you have seen, there has been an announcement today regarding the 101 Expert gameplay pack for Kassel - Würzburg The new goal is to try to have the manual update ready for that (if it includes an update to the 101 Expert itself, that's still to be confirmed it seems, I don't know). I cannot however guarantee that to be ready at the exact same time as I do have another manual to finish writing (the E94 gameplay pack for LFR) and that there also will be the matter of the German version which may take time as we're talking about adding an extra 100+ pages to the Version 1. That being said, we should be nearing the end of a long wait, I will try my best!
