Are you sure it’s not the wagon or wagons that need to be on the marker and not your loco? It may still show a large distance to the marker but...
The only suggestion I can give is when you leave the cut of cars for the F7 to collect do you stop with the car the furthest away from your loco...

A technique I use for getting lettering in line and the same size is once your first letter is sized and placed correctly you copy it and change...
