The 41's were D600 to D604? You could keep the route the same, just do it as a loco add on.
Mid to late 70's set up. Class 55's on the main runs. Class 31 and 40. Cravens DMU (105/106) and electric 310 on the suburban runs.
I like the idea of a retro GWR with Warships, Westerns and blue Pullmans. Good shout.
