I saw that someone had brought this locomotive up in a previous proposal and I just want to say that I am totally behind adding this very unique but very flawed locomotive. it would also finally complete the quartet of twin-engined giants owned by the Union Pacific (C855, U50, DD35, DDA40X), with the C855 being the underdog due to it having many mechanical and electrical problems. the UP did not order any more after they took delivery of the demo set (A-units #60-61, and lone B-unit #60B) and they were scrapped in 1972. i think that adding this locomotive would offer a very unique experience on the UP system. It could also come with scenarios for the Wasatch Grade Route.

DTM would of made one if it weren't for 2 small issues, no cab reference and no sounds...

Looks like DTM is making the UP turbine locomotives though! So far I've seen the Veranda Turbine and the 1st Generation Turbine. It may not be the C855 that you wanted but these are also very large Union Pacific locomotives so sort of comparable.

ooh looks very good, these turbines should add some more depth to the UP roster's representation in TS. Im very excited to run the gen 1 and 2 turbines with the new big boy when it comes out.

I wonder if the cab in the C855 is any different from the cab of any other Alco Century series diesel? You could reference the cab from a different Century series model like the C630 and use it in the C855? Also, maybe you could mix together two Alco 251C engine soundtracks (you could get the sounds from an Alco C628 as it has the same prime mover) to replicate the sound of the C855. Not sure how feasible either of these ideas are but they might be good workarounds for the issues that were brought up by DTM.

This would be an awesome DLC. UP had some massive engines. We need a new Big Boy, Challenger, and definitely a 4-12-2, plus the C855.

I've seen the 9000 in person before. That thing is an ABSOLUTE UNIT! I even got to ring the bell and blow the whistle. It would be awesome to see this in Train Simulator. I'm pretty sure there have been several attempts to make them, but they've all stalled out in one way or another.

There is a Microsoft Train Simulator converted UP 9000, but it would be nice to get one up to TS2020 standards.

Once they're done with their Big Boy I guess, though I'd also adore a PRR T1 from them...

I know I bring them up like every other post I make, but DSGDDR/Digital Railroading has been working on a T1 (amongst several other American steamers) for some time now. They were working on a UP 4-12-2 (and a TTT-6) as well but as mentioned earlier, the project stalled out a few months back.

Oh yeahhhh I totally forgot about their T1! They've totally proven themselves with the NYC Hudsons so I can't wait to see the finished product.

IIRC, Smokebox was gonna work on a new Challenger after the Big Boy, so It may be a year or 2 till we see a project that isnt those 2 locos.

I wonder if anyone would be able to reach out to DTM and relay the fixes I have proposed in the quoted post?

Kinda hard to do that when only one C628 remains in existence and its gutted out inside a rail museum in Mexico

Hmm, that's definitely an issue, maybe you could use a similar engine from an Alco C425 as its a similar prime mover, just with a lower horsepower rating, and there are some that still operate to my knowledge.

The engine sounds could come from one of Delaware and Lackawana's C425's as they have a few that are still operable. they could also use the cab interiors as a reference for the C855.
