Looking good. Could I ask you the best tool to cut down platforms? I'm doing a cabinet displaying some trains and on one shelf I want to put platforms but need to cut them down length wise, I wondered if there is a tool to make it easier. Have been looking at mini circular saws but don't know if that is over kill.

    I'm trying ...
    1stLoco-42.62CloseFront-crop.JPG 1980shop.jpg
First try, could not figure out nose stripes so went with a modification. Just trying this out on what is available (SD40) so I numbered it accordingly to fit my roster system.
Hopefully more locos show up to paint in LD.

    Really liking CC LD!!

Nice locos. I usually go back to modelling in the winter months. I am looking forward to getting back to it in the next little while. Once the snow flies basically, but TSW has been holding my interest of late. I have been really enjoying painting the locos and rolling stock in my various freelance railway colours and then driving them in Timetable. It's like modelling but a step closer to reality.

TSW3 BR 182 And DBpbzfa Compared To Fleischmann 1:160 - thanks To Steam Sale! Been waiting to get this loco and cars since TSW3 came out, wanted to get it on sale. I've had this little train for a number of years now and really wanted to see it in a sim, almost should've paid full price! The loco's got DCC w/ sound and the Steuerwagen has DCC lights.

GWR Class '4073' No. 5051 Earl Bathurst & an MR 'Compound' No. 1000 sat on my radiator. (Don't worry I only moved them to take the photos). I have more models but cannot be bothered to get them out but when I do I'll post them here. :):)

Nice and if you want Schnnellfahrstrecke Hannover Wurzburg and Main Spessart Bahn via the Nantenbach Lohr connector line I suggest you get a Marklin Model Railway set DB Baureihe 401 and DB Baureihe 403 37784 the Creators Club Rainbow ICE. Furthermore, Marklin did make a Niddertalbahn DB BR628 and Bremen Oldenburg Bnrzdf 463. What the Marklin group model railway allows you to do is the whole TSW 3 German route collection. From their Trix model Railway brand there's a Riesa Dresden DB BR 182 VVO and if you want both DB BR 155 achievements Power Surge and Hot off the Press in the form of a Model railway Trix 12506 is for you.

Not sure if you meant to reply to me or the person you quote (who showed British steam locos)?

I primarily model in N scale due to space limitations. I like Minitrix but mostly I am a Fleischmann guy.

Correct and I was the one that suggested the TSW 3 German route locomotives in the Marklin group Model railways. Sadly Bremen Oldenburg might be problematic since Marklin Site is recommending a DB BR141 knallfrosch instead of 110.3 for the N-wagen. Also, TSC Inselbahn can be made out of Marklin too using the 37529 DB BR120 with 40500 IC 1st class 40501 IC 2nd class 40502 Bistro & 40503 Cab car.

Some of my HO and OO trains. My fiance and I rent an apartment where we don't have room for a layout, so the bulk (and I do mean bulk) of my collection is in storage. After we get married and buy a house we're going to do a modest-sized layout, and I'd like to make some display shelving for my locomotives. In the meantime I keep some of my nicer units on display in the apartment.

My first ever OO steam locomotives, an Airfix Prarie and and Hornby "Tornado"

A BR Black Bachmann Pannier tank , with an Airfix Autocoach. I have a London Transport Pannier as well.

Some time I'll go through the rest of my OO collection. I have a TON of it, plus some more coming in. I should have a Class 73 and 4-TC set from Kernow Model Centre on the way, and I believe Rails of Sheffield just shipped me a NSE Class 33 off pre-order.

For my HO collection, I collect mostly roads from the northeastern US. I grew up in Connecticut, so that pretty much made me a New Haven Railroad fan from childhood.

I'll start with a couple of custom units I commissioned, the first being a CT DoT "McGinnis" Genesis "P32" locomotive (Athearn) alongside a Rapido New Haven FL9. The second is a custom Metroliner cab car, modified from an old unpowered Bachmann unit.

The rest of my apartment display collection. Mostly New Haven units from various manufacturers, some Amtrak, a D&H PA, a P&W B-Boat, some Metro-North power and a ShoreLine East Geep.

Last week, I completed my conversion of a Bachmann Patriot into a Ex-LNWR Large Boilered Claughton. Due to limitations, some areas such as the tender and valve gear are wrong but I like it how it is. It currently bares the name "PATRIOT - REMEMBERING THE FALLEN L&NWR EMPLOYEES 1914 -1919" (or Patriot for short) and it'll be numbered 6004. 6004 in real life was built in Aug 1920 and withdrawn in 1949 before she could be renumbered into her BR number of 46004. All Claughtons fell victim to the cutter's torch.

This model depicts the locomotive in preservation in my Alternate Universe. I will go more into to detail on how I modifyed the locomotive and my fictional history of 6004 in a video i'll upload to youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/@therailtourer/featured

Got my shipment from Kernow Model Centre in today. The 73 and 4TC are gorgeous in this paint scheme. I only wished they offered the same package deal with their NSE 4TC with an NSE 73.

Nice but there's a problem with OO scale you need to use a UK spec 220v Transformer otherwise you need to get a US & Japan 100-120v Transformer to run them here in the US. These do fit BML nicely if set in BR Blue era slam doors

Nope, they run on US track and power just fine. I've tested my Tornado, Prairie, 57XX and 64XX Panniers, 08, 20, and 03 on the loop of Bachmann EZ Track and controller included with the Acela set before with zero issues. The only real "issue" is that OO trains are 1:76 scale, vs HO trains which are 1:87. The scale difference doesn't really bother me, I just buy the trains I like lol.

Well there some great examples of various scales, eras, layouts big, small and in various phases of construction plus some amazing train collections. But at least TSW has provided those of us who maybe don't have or have yet the time, space or money or skills to do these things, with the Christmas living room layout dlc and with scenario planner and off the rail mode we can pretend we have a layout until maybe someday possibly we can build ourselves a real one.

Now this is a great looking train, plus at least you know the importance of having dopplestocks with difference door heights. If only the train in your picture above had that to.

The small fleet I run on my ex-GWR branch line terminus. All have had drivers fitted, weathered, and all but 4573 have real coal in the bunkers. 16789540088953590233802741560179.jpg 16789541211724802698832322245805.jpg 16789541519651960849400497964789.jpg 16789541743961829407251845206441.jpg

Anyone fancy a blue bitannia? I while ago, I say that someone (the late Karl Midgeley 1986 - 2021) had painted their 5 inch gauge Britannia into BR Express Blue and I thought that is looked kinda cool and so in between late Dec 2022 and early Jan 2023, I bought and repainted a Hornby Britannia into BR Express Blue and renumbered and renamed it (70012 "John of Gaunt"). Yes, the Brits never wore this livery however this can be techinally correct as around the time the first brits rolled off the assembly line in 1951, this livery was being phased out so it could a be a more of a "What If?" livery.. This model came with DCC sound from the seller. It just needs some transfers and a redo on some of the lining.

I don't just model in OO no no, since Aug 1st 2020, I have been the owner of this 71/4" Gauge 24V electric locomotive. Her name is Churnet and she was built in 2003 but her origins, apart from her build date, are unknown to me. I got this 2nd hand from the Kirklees Light Railway.

In the nearly 3 years since the project started, only around 30m of track was laid. Progress has been at a snails pace as I've been busy with things. The railway is currenly located at a relative's field and the project started when I lived in the village but I moved out 2 years ago, so its gone from a 10 min walk to the railway to a 20 min drive. Tomorrow (18/03), I'm heading down to the railway to operate the last running session with Churnet before the entire railway and its rolling stock is relocated to my back garden. The relocating won't happen until the summer though.

I swear Hornby need to spend more time producing good models instead of these stupid shorts. You never see any other model railway manufacturer do this.

Only if that's what the wife did after my latest purchases at the start of the month. Instead I had a broom thrown at me and given a list of jobs around the house to do.

That's really cool, despite having to now commute to your garden railway. At least you have family that's cool with you setting up on their property for now. My father in law is a good sport with me setting up my HO and OO trains in his dining room on occasion, taking over the back yard would be a stretch lol.

I've imported a few Hornby trains over the past few years and for the most part they're decent runners. Some of the older stuff is a little rough, but it probably needs to be lubed and cleaned. The used Tornado I bought from eBay is a great runner, and even survived a four foot drop onto a hardwood floor after my fiance's yellow lab wanted to see what I was doing and got caught up in the power cord for the transformer. I do know they have a reputation for producing some very expensive models with quality that doesn't always reflect this. I've also developed a preference for Heljan and Bachmann models for my OO collection.

It's funny, the Bachmann HO trains here in the states have the same reputation as the Hornby OO trains have for you guys across the pond. It's a shame that they don't have the same quality as the OO Branchline models. Over here Atlas and Rapido are two of my go-to brands for HO trains.

Speaking of Rapido, and returning to your comment regarding Hornby, their North American division produces some pretty funny YouTube videos while making some spectacular product (I don't know how good their UK models are, but I've read their APT blows the Hornby model away).

My fiance's a REALLY good sport about my hobby. She really enjoys traveling by train with me and going on various excursions, and is actually excited to build a layout once we buy a house.

To be fair to my mrs everything about our lives is to do with the railway: our house backs on to the ECML, I've worked on the railway for longer than we've been married, her father was a railwayman and her mother worked in a station cafe when she was younger. Also it was by no means a cheap visit so I do see where she was coming from this time.

Generally though she quite enjoys watching the trains go round especially in the dark.

If I do actually remember I will show them off. I don't have a diesel yet but I am planning to get Hornbys new 67005 model as it is one of my favourite 67s and have seen it a lot of times in the past.

The models that Rapido UK are producing are amazing. yes they aren't perfect (cause nothing is) but they are somewhat priced correctly and are well worth the money. I've currently pre-ordered a 1930s condition LION from them. Yes, it was £150 (USD $182 / CAD $215) but the model's body is diecast and it will be able to pull all my rolling stock unlike Hornby's Era 1 range as they have a unique coupling which means you can only pull era 1 rolling stock behind them. I've always wanted a Rapido Royal Hudson but they are very expensive and I'm not willing to part with that kind of money..

Hi everyone, I'm more on the Japanese railways side of things (although I do own Swiss trains). Just added:

KATO M250 Series SUPER RAIL CARGO (U50A Container Loaded)

    TOMIX 98444 JR 215 Series

Modemo NT156 Keifuku Electric Railway Type MOBO 631 'Yuko No.632'.

For my diorama, I ordered a few KATO cherry blossom trees and bamboo.

    And a few other things....

Oh very cool! I love the cherry blossoms. I'm actually trying to grow a cherry bonsai at the moment, along with a red maple.

    Do you have a layout?

Got some new additions in today. A new Heljan Class 33 from Rails that I've had on pre-order, and a used A4 from The Model Centre that I got for a really good price.

I'll be honest, I had to look up what a guillemot was, and knowing the name of the class leader I feel like I should've known better lol.

Yep, it was certified pre-owned from TMC. I paid $130 USD shipped to the States. I think it was 80 quid before conversion. I have a few Bachmann Panniers that are great little engines, this is my first Bachmann tender engine.

I'm a sucker for BR Green, so decided it needed to be in my fleet haha.

Decent price then. I have the Bachmann V2 which is an absolute gem to run.

I don't blame you mate: there's nothing better than a good old impulse buy!

That's some interesting stuff. I have never seen Japanese model railway stuff before. I particularly like that one of yours.

I only have one Cherry Blossom tree on our layout. It resides at the station grounds. It's my wife's favourite tree so had to put one someone in an honorable spot. The station is now a museum and sees only railfans and tourists so having a nice family picnic area was a priority. ...

    Welcome!

[forgot to turn on the station lights in the rear and front...ugh.]

Here is the one I'm currently working on. I don't have a lot of space, so I try to work with space of what I have. It's a slow process....but it's fun (and expensive...lol).

Japanese buildings tend to emphasize video, so I have one that plays YouTube videos above one of the buildings (using a smart phone and a smart phone stand hidden towards the rear. Testing different things out for that...

But with the American dollar being way better than the Japanese yen right now, it's actually now much cheaper to purchase from Amazon Japan (Note: They are even faster than Amazon US at times for shipping, comes via DSL).

Granted, the rule of thumb is to remember that shipping will always start out at about $20-25 US (this is global priority, standard is like $3 less, so I stick with priority), so I prefer to add several than by one single thing. If you are going to buy a single product, I recommend adding a magazine like RM Models or a KATO train case which each are about $7 US (Y1100-1200).

KATO & TOMIX (TomyTec) are the top makers of N Gauge and HO (KATO has a US Division as well, but focuses on the US trains), Greenmax has a variety but just make sure they are pre-painted, Micro Ace are N Gauge and take on trains the others are not making, Hasegawa MODEMO is N Gauge but tend to focus on railcars/trams, Rokuhan is for Z Gauge and Kasumi for HO.

But what people from outside of Japan may want to check out for purchasing are the TomyTec, KATO or GreenMax Structures (you can type it on Amazon JP, it will automatically translate, if you have your settings to do so). Best to get on Amazon JP and not eBay. The other is their wide arrangement of trees, cherry blossoms and also miniatures. They have so many different types.
