After a year of waiting I got these beauties back today. Last year I sent a Walthers Guilford caboose, an Atlas undec RS3, and a Proto Rock Island GP9 out for customizing and repainting. For those that are unfamiliar, the Housatonic Railroad is a freight railroad in Connecticut running north and south along its namesake river between Danbury, CT and Pittsfield, MA. They haul primarily limestone, construction debris, and plastic pellets along with other commodities and have had an interesting mix of motive power over the years. They own five GP35s that are/were their primary fleet, an ex-BAR GP7u, and lease a few different units at the moment. 9935 is an RS3m "DeWitt Geep" rebuild that was formerly on loan to the Berkshire Scenic Railroad Museum. DeWitt Geeps are ALCo RS3s that have been modified with EMD prime movers and traction equipment. The unit is currently on shop trucks at the railroad engine house in Canaan, CT. 9935 is now one of two Connecticut-based RS3s I now own, the other being 529, an ex-New Haven unit based on the Naugatuck Railroad in Thomaston, CT and is currently awaiting repair. 7324 was one of two GP9s based on the railroad that have since migrated to New Hampshire. The unit is ex-NYC and configured to run long hood forward. Here it is alongside GP35 #3600, which is an Athearn unit that was produced in small numbers and is very hard to come by. 654 is a caboose occasionally used as a shoving platform but is typically stored at the shop in Canaan, CT. This is the second time I have sent trains out to an outfit in Pennsylvania called Accurate Custom Finishing, and I am thrilled with the results.
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone here has the Hornby Azuma here as I was considering purchasing one but I want to sort of have an idea if there are worth the just over £400 price tag my local model shop are selling them for! Thanks in advance
The bottom train is a Class 755 which means if its OHLE pantograph has failed the EDMU can continue to Colchester from Peterborough on diesel power. Reverse can also happen EDMU diesel engine has failed thus restricting class 755 to the last electric station. This picture should be posted on real trains picture thread
Very rare to see a 70 yes do you know where it came from and if this is a regular thing as I live in Stamford and we get a lot of container traffic pass through and so I might make an effort to go and take a look if another 70 goes through as I’ve never seen one before!!
just realised i’ve accidentally put this in the model railways section if a moderator could move it to the correct thread that’d be great
I've got both the Celebrating Scotland pack and the bog standard (but more expensive) 800/2 pack and they are good quality but not worth the full RRP so if you can get it cheaper I would say they are good models. Just a few things to make sure of is that your trackwork doesn't jump up and down so is smooth. Both models have minor things wrong with them however neither of them are models I regret getting at a similar price point to what you mentioned.
Ha thanks mate that’s interesting. Why was the celebrating Scotland pack cheaper as it is in my local model shop but that made me unsure of whether to buy it or not!!!
Never knew there was a thread about model railways here, so thought I might as well join in too. Some of my most recent acquisitions as of this month: Realtrack Models Class 156 Sprinter DMU in the EMT livery: Bachmann Branchline Class 108 DMU in BR Weathered blue
https://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.c...tachi-IEP-Bi-Mode-Class-800-2-5-Car-Unit-LNER KMRC have the LNER ones for £350 at the moment, not sure if you will find one any cheaper but you may never know
Thanks mate, I am usually sceptical about ordering online but I’ve heard good things about KMRC and I think my mrs would be happy if I saved an extra £50 so may well buy it!!!! Thanks again!!!
I've ordered from them before and they're very easy to deal with. The 4TC & Class 73 set I ordered required extra shipping to get them to me in the States and they communicated with me very well and the updated shipping cost was very reasonable.
Thanks mate I’ve ordered it. If I remember I’ll put a couple of pictures of it on here when (if!!!) it comes!!! Thanks again!!!
I bought these about a week ago. The two lima class 47s and the FNA sloped floor nuclear flask wagon. The Falcon JNA and the MPV I bought from the model railway show at Ally Pally a few weeks ago.
Got this beauty delivered last weekend. I've had this on pre-order for a long time; it's an HO Rapido Rohr RTL Turboliner in the later Phase V paint scheme, and is officially the most expensive train I own. At least Rapido's quality reflects this, beginning with the packaging (which is huge!) down to the insane detailing of the model.
SO I have now named my layout Its called Burton Road. If you are on Facebook you can read all about it here. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100093150780614 Cheers Hentis

Does anyone remember the huge model Railway in Exmouth,Devon? Visited it often when I was a child on family holidays. Was incredible. Last visited in August 2012. It was on its last legs then and in an hour or so I was there I was the only visitor . No trace of it remains today. (Not my photo)
New HO scale GP40 from Atlas is looking good. They’ve really upped the detail level for this release! Worth checking out for fans of North American freight.
Atlas and Rapido make some of the best North American models in my opinion. All my Atlas units run smooth as butter on the roughest of track.
It’s very rare that I’ve had a problem with an Atlas model, they build them like tanks. My first model train is an Atlas, and it still fires up no problem 25 years later.
My collection so far, all are HO scale, and most are DCC with Sound unless noted. CSX Roster: Left to Right: Atlas C40-8W 7765 "Chessie" Scaletrains SD40-3 4042 Athearn GP38-2 2721 Athearn GP38-2 2726 Atlas GP40 6604 Shortline Roster: Left to Right: Atlas P&W B23-7 2201 Atlas P&W B23-7 2212 Atlas P&W B40-8W 4005 Atlas P&W B40-8W 4007 Atlas NECR GP40-2LW 3015 Amtrak Roster: Left to Right: Bachmann ACS-64 619 Bachmann ACS-64 642 "Salutes our Veterans" Bachmann ACS-64 607 Fallen Flags: Left to Right: Atlas MEC Alco S4, this one was very first locomotive, it came from a trainset in 1996, this locomotive is DC only. Life Like Proto NH Budd RDC-2, I've also had this one since I was a kid, and recently upgraded it to DCC.
Excellent selection of equipment from the Northeast, I'm jealous of a few of your units. The Scaletrains SD40-3 and the P&W B40-8W in the prior scheme are my favorites. The GP40-2LW is another interesting piece; I missed out on grabbing a Guilford/MEC unit at the last Amherst show.
Thank you! The Amherst show is always worth the trip, I've gotten some good deals there in the past, the P&W B40-8W came from there. As for the SD40-3 and the GP40-2LW, those came from eBay, sometimes you can get lucky and find someone who just wants to get rid of their old stock and you can pick them up at a decent price!
I am, at some point, getting myself a full 8 car ICE 3 model train just to put it on a shelf. and perhaps in the future for model railways to drive it on, but for now, just to observe it.
So, last week I were in Devon on my yearly holiday and through no fault of my own I stumbled into a model shop and accidentally spent a fair bit of money. With that money I bough a Hornby 800/0 in the GWR livery but without the 3 car coach pack, so I only have the two driving trailers. I also purchased a Hornby Castle class, a Heljan (?) GW railcar and another Heljan class 128. I won't say how much but the mrs weren't best pleased, though I am as they are all very good models which run very smoothly. The only issue is that my layout, although not set in an era is set along the ECML in the Helpston area, so the only appropriate unit is the 128! Oh well as I say lovely models and if I remember I may get a couple of pictures to put on here.
This got delivered from across the pond today. I wonder if customs is getting tired of me importing model trains yet lol. I'm really thrilled with this little guy. I pre-ordered it to go with my LT Pannier and it's really a fantastic little model, especially for the price. I paid $130 USD for the model and shipping from The Model Centre. They got this to me FAST; I was invoiced this past Saturday and it made it across the Atlantic and through customs and the US Postal Service by today. Of humorous note, I showed my fiance and she remarked "It looks like a truck (lorry)!". She was quite amused and satisfied with herself when I informed her of the manufacturer of the prototype.
They also make the ALP-46 & ALP-45DP. The later runs through Hillside, NJ Atlas Model Railways on the Raritan Valley Line Aldene Connection route to NYC from High Bridge Exits 17-18 I-78
I just got my first EFE locomotive in the mail this weekend. I was holding off on buying one to focus on higher priority gaps in my collection, but Rails of Sheffield had it in their online "bargain bin". Using a 5% off coupon, it was $130USD shipped.
It's been awhile since I've posted a train from my own country, although ironically this model is Japanese lol Kato did a great job with this model, it'll look great on my future layout
With my wedding coming up in a few weeks and house shopping to come in the following months, I felt it was a good idea to plan a layout so I can account for the space required. I ended up going with a a 10' x 16' layout, using a mix of Atlas Code 100 Snap and Flex Track. The outer loop will be "electrified" with both OHLE and third rail, and operating curves will be 22-Radius. Several static sidings will be present for decoration, and the inner running loop will be designated for freight and museum trains. The layout will also feature a streetcar line and a monorail loop. Two dead-end "portals" will represent connections to outside rail lines, and how museum and mainline trains access the route. I've decided to name it Roulette Valley Railway, taking into consideration my broad mix of rolling stock from various roads across both the US and the UK, as you may never know what will about on the line on any given day.
That looks like it will be good fun. My advice though would be to buy as much as you can now because if your wife's anything like mine you'll be waiting a long time to get that done. Good luck and well done though with your wedding mate, hope it all goes well.
I'm actually more concerned about my future mortgage and home expenses than my wife lol. There's a reason I've been buying up rolling stock like crazy, as that's the high dollar aspect of the project. Track and scenery is a drop in the bucket in comparison. My wife actually wants to build the layout with me. She enjoys building dioramas and crafting, and sees it as a project we can do together. She even volunteered the use of her air brush! I don't think I could get that lucky ever again in my life! Thanks for the well-wishes on the wedding, it should go great. We're keeping it small and the ceremony short; it will be more like a small family picnic than anything. We've been together for five years and neither us of needs to be the center of attention, so we decided we'd rather save the money that a big wedding would cost and keep our wedding day small, and more about togetherness than just she and I.
Good on you both mate, in fairness my mrs likes watching the trains with lights in the dark and has given me a few ideas. Rolling stock is stupidly expensive though these days so glad I have got most of what I'd like in that department.
Rails of Sheffield got me with their Class 73 flash sale. At least it will look good with my Hornby 423 set if that ever gets released...
What brand and if you want the Rainbow ICE3 then look at Marklin 37784. Want to make KWG from Marklin trains then go for 39356 Dispolok 182 RSN Uacns Cement wagon 48190 alongside 37863 TSW 4 Riesa Dresden Vectron 36190 HMA DB BR420 37503
Piko actually, I already have a 4 car starter set but it turned slightly yellow over the years so I wanna rebuy everything
A couple of new additions to post. Firstly a second 4TC set, this time in NSE scheme. NSE, Intercity Swallow, and BR Green paint schemes are my biggest weaknesses. I've been telling myself I don't need the NSE Class 03 and 08 from Olivia's Trains, but they may very well be my next purchases. I've also got the first of my layout materials, in the form of 4% grade risers for the outer loop in my track plan.
