It happened before. 3DTrainStuff, who did Cajon Pass, Castle Rock and the US assets, have actually done their own sim called "Run 8 Train Simulator".
Coming back to the veg pack (which I don't have yet) I've updated the Wherry Lines but now I'm having tile hang, yes the game literally hangs for 2 or 3 seconds so can't really call it tile stutter, I've updated to the latest build, anyone else having issues?
Nope working for me. Someone mentioned up thread they had similar but turning shadows down 1 notch stopped that. My shadows are set to halfway so may be why no problems since I updated.
Shadows was on full so knocked it down one notch and it has improved it slightly but still there. and it's only on the Wherry Lines the other routes I quickly tried seem ok so far. It did eliminate another annoyance of mine though and that was the "TSW style" rail shadow that was appearing 10 ~ 20 ft in front of the train which I'm convinced only appeared after the first TSC optimisation patch many many months ago. A bit nervous about purchasing the full veg pack now though I can handle it on the WL because I don't really play it, I don't want this tile hang on my favoured routes though and I really really don't want to do a full clean install either.
Ah i thought i had messed something up with that rail shadow glitch as well so glad it is not only me having that. I am on the fence as well with this pack. It certainly makes the sim look "fresher" but i dont want the same headache as you.
Installed AP Veggie Pack yesterday. Having seen at least one positive comment about improvements to Settle & Carlisle, I immediately launched it with a QuickDrive, set in Autumn, starting at Settle Sta. Going into K8 (free roam) mode to set loco lamps, I immediately noticed the following: I exited the QD, deleted the Game Cache, and relaunched the QD. Same results. My first, obvious question is, does anyone else have this issue? Whether yes or no, how might I (attempt to) correct it? Thanks! ADDENDUM: Forgot to mention that I tested the other three seasons. None are afflicted. Only Autumn. This leads me to wonder if those trees were bad all along. Odds are against it, but . . .
These look like 2D Kuju trees. Have you made sure that they were OK before VegEP? (well, now it's more complicated to check for sure...)
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that AP didn't change any 2D trees only 3D ones, so now you're looking at and focusing on the trees I guess you're going to notice the bad things. Screenshot taken on a completely vanilla (only official DLC bought through Steam) build of TSC v75.8a
No worries, I was curious myself and had the means to instantly test it. It really pays keeping a separate version of your heavily modded and third partied up daily driver away from the Steam install version as it allows you to instantly test things just like this and keeps your install safe from things like the recent "DeleteEverythingGate" scandal, any (verified by the community as working properly) core updates are easily copied over to your insulated daily driver too so that's not an issue either.
Checked as well, out of curiosity. Most importantly, Settle-Carlisle is effectively Summer only, most of the vegetation is missing in every other season, so other quirks are possible. What's interesting is whether this was fine before or not - Spikee1975 might have the easiest time checking, as he has multiple previous installations. Here are some captures. First of all, it's fine in Summer: Flipped to an Autumn free roam (Kirkby Stephen) to check. Yes, here it is. Note, the other model is worse as well. Different angle showing that there are at least two cut models. The forward-most one (on the gray ground) is different. Passing a lot of fine forests, I noted these trees at Horton-in-Ribblesdale or something. The stop before Settle. Note that some (maybe all) are pairs, but as they are rotating, they are broken, each in a different way. Whether these are meant to be asymmetric or X shaped, remains a mystery. I have a theory that these might be intended to be used as partial models to use in any number (3, 4, 5...). Matt explained in an old video (during a centenary stream or such) that the X shape produced by 2 trees was used widely in MSTS, with TSC eventually settling with rotating 2D models instead. These half trees do rotate, and the route is 2012-04-05, so I'm fairly sure that this is effectively a historic piece showcasing transition, assuming that the route was built for a while at low quality, then Summer was updated to modern standards and then the budget ran out. (Not forgetting that Horseshoe Curve from 2011-09 is 3D but the Kuju routes were updated for 2012-09.)
AP pack only replaces 3D models, the 2D trees are not being touched. As they are 2D, they are not meant to be viewed from above. I only know Settle Carlisle in that state. Hardly vegetation in autumn. Why not update it a little and put it on Workshop?
While I understand that 3D-2D split is often used for nearby-distant optimisation, upgrading 2D to 3D could make a big difference on some routes. I just captured them that way to make it clear. Reef above did show them from the ground level. And these are very much trackside, too. Good point. I've heard about an extended version (beyond Settle) a few years ago, focusing on BR Green / Blue Class 101 times.
Rail shadow. Been there ever since i started in TSC in 2018. I strongly dislike it and wish it could be turned off.
Wasn't there for me before a few months ago, maybe RWEPro/2 got rid of it but something changed in an update that's brought it back? dunno, try knocking down shadow quality a notch it made the issue disappear for me anyway.
Driving from Carlisle to Settle, on Settle to Carlisle route, I came upon a long stretch of track with numerous Veggie Pack errors. They are found between Appleby and the stopping station immediately prior to it. Here are a few captures made at the tail end of errors. Some earlier errors are more severe: I ended today's session at Appleby so do not yet know if what I saw is the entirety of VP errors.
I haven’t played a huge amount with it yet, but on Welsh Marches, it’s made a big difference. In my opinion it’s a lot more immersive.
I think i would probably just go into the world editor and fix such stuff myself. I swapped vegetation on a couple of German routes, and had to move a couple of trees that got too close to the track.
To me, it's a massive improvement - as the set of trees DTG have been using for quite some time are looking absolutely unrealistic (balloon shape, bright blueish green). And if you see a tree on the track while driving, all you have to do is press "Ctrl+E", click the tree, move it, and press Play again. It will create a "Scenery" folder with the updated tile in the route's folder.
Is it really that simple? Never been brave enough to mess with the editor haha. Am tempted to get it along with the slightly discounted cloud pack.
I did not know of this shortcut. Thanks Normally I paused the game - clicked on Editor and then did what I needed
I wish I didn't know about the shortcut, I can't ever get a full run in without having to edit/fix something.
I didn't know it existed either, until the other day a finger overshot Ctrl+S (screenshot). Man oh man was I surprised! Thankfully, I had enough wits about me to guess what I needed to do to resume play. Now that I know, I might try replanting those misplaced S2C+VeggiePack trees. My one concern is what happens when AP updates the pack to fix reported errors? Will what I do (assuming I have the guts to do anything) interfere with their future corrections?
Thanks for the tips! That said, it seems I would need them. I reported my finding (with screenshot links) to AP prior to submitting my initial Veggie Pack placement error post here. Just received a reply from AP. It's been corrected. DL'ing and reinstallation should set things right. Can't beat that for quick turnaround!
