LIRR2- This one is for railfans. AI only service 1629 Huntington- Penn station. This train only has two stops in the entire service, Cold Spring Harbor and Syosset station. These stations are off map. After that is non-stop to Penn. You can spot this train around 754am when it comes out of the Huntington Branch portal while it passes at Hicksville station.

I tried 2L35 and I must agree it is a very nice run, so thanks for sharing that one with us.

6M01 (I think) on MML, Toton (Well, Meadow Lane) to Leicester. An interesting run that is mostly yellows to Leicester. Plenty of AI traffic as well and has a nice connection to the "legendary" 2L35.

I actually think that MML is at a point where every service, near enough, could have a mention on this thread as I do think they all have something interesting or different about them, whether it be a hold up or a bit of different AI to another one. Honestly, since I got home earlier I have done 3 different HST runs and they did feel different, unlike on some routes where services can feel the same. MML, along with BPO to be fair, are the two best routes for service mode in game. Well that is my opinion anyway.

    That was excellent!
I loved the double stop in Mineola and getting overtaken by the express EB runs.
    Thank you.

Honest question...is there any "randomness" in the service mode? For example a "chance" of traffic that's not always there, only occasionally? A random service that could pop in and throw the traffic off just to shake things up and keep you on your toes? Or is everything always the same every time? I've noticed irl around here there's a LOT of "on demand" movements that happen once a week or once a month (mostly freight from smaller local businesses) that have to be integrated into the timetable.
Sometimes it SEEMS like there's some variation, but it might just be me driving slower/faster/different weather/taking longer to set up a train that makes the traffic flow SEEM a bit different. On the other hand, some services seem to be copy/paste with nothing changing but the time (the New Haven Aggregates on East Coastway I think and there's some big consists on Antelope that are exactly the same, just run several times a day to bulk up the schedule)

The AI timetable will always execute as it is written, unless you disrupt it with the train you are driving. That can either be a scheduled service that you run off the original schedule or another train that you spawn into the route. The dispatcher is somewhat flexible and gives priority to trains based upon when they claim signals and you can change that with your driving behavior.

What the dispatcher can't do is prioritize some trains over others or - and this the holy grail of TSW dispatching - work with dynamic pathing to get services to their destinations if the usual path is occupied.

I have finally started running NEC Trenton and am once again enjoying the Acela. Here is a nice run with a bit of a surprise at the end:

2171 Boston South Station to Washington at 18:58.

Ah so it's just me mucking up the process, but otherwise it's entirely scripted. That makes sense =-)

Babylon Branch service. I wonder if there are playable services for that branch in the current version of LIRR

    LIRR 2: M3 Train 127 Babylon - NY Penn (16:44)

A service calling at Jamaica and Penn only.

Quite busy and you parallel run with a train on the way to Jamaica and leave with 2 train either side of you and if you quick enough you can parallel run with the M9 all the way to Woodside before you get stopped to let it pass.

An excellent run on NEC: NYT. I really enjoy the ALP-46: modern safety systems, but lap style brakes. And, a really nice horn.

    Here is an ECS move:

    X378 Jersey Avenue - Hudson Yard @ 20:46.

Your departure is delayed by a NE Regional Service that you follow all the way in. Make sure you know how to respond to ASES warnings. At the end, I got a nice fireworks bonus:

    ROUTE: Antelope Valley Line
SERVICE: Freight, stacks LATC to Seattle Part 2
    TIME: 04:35
DATE and WEATHER: May 28th, clear

Why it was awesome: I loved the golden glow of the early morning sunlight, alternating with long shadows as the low sun darted in and out from behind the many hills as my train worked its way upgrade. I liked the play of light off the background mountain scenery and the cab of my lead UP ES44. The twisting route with slow speeds allows you the time to look back on your long intermodal freight winding back and forth through the many curves behind you. The grade is not so severe that you just put it in Notch 8 and go into a coma while your freight struggles uphill. You have to watch the speed limits and adjust your throttle settings accordingly. You also meet two LA-bound morning passenger runs.

    There were only two problems:
    1) the HUD kept showing passenger speed limits, not freight, so I had to keep looking for the speed limit signs to find out what mine were. Not too big a deal, just a little annoying.
    2) “tunnel vision” is a flaw that has affected this route from the very beginning. If any part of your train is in a tunnel, you can’t use external camera to look back at your train, nor can you use “head out” view to look out the side of your cab. Clinchfield had this problem way back but they fixed it. It’s not so bad with short, fast passenger trains but long, slow freights keep you from enjoying the views for a long time.

An excellent ECS run on NEC: NYT with the ALP-46:

X373 NY Penn Station - Jersey Avenue at 05:09

You spend virtually the whole ride under ATC control as you follow and leapfrog a stopping service. SPAD potential!

It would appear I’m not the only one drawn to NYT lately :)

    I’ve got another one:
3165 New York Penn - Jersey Avenue at
    16:49 with the
    ALP-46

As the description will tell you, the run already has an interesting stopping pattern being a semi-fast down to Jersey and an ECS to Trenton. But there’s more…

On the way to Jersey, you will meet many trains making the run a visual treat. There’s also good operational variety - at many stations, you have extented waiting times to let higher priority runs overtake you. On the last ECS leg to Trenton, you will feel that you have the lowest priority by being stuck behind a local services giving you frequent and long waiting times.

    LIRR Commuter
    M7 Train 863 Long Beach - Atlantic Terminal (16:27)

A regular stopping service until Centre Avenue where you meet an M3 at Lynbrook and trail behind it, whilst it diverges towards St Albans if you’re quick enough you can meet it again running alongside it into Jamaica. When you leave you can parallel run the M3 as well as an M9 as they diverge to NY, you then do an express run to Atlantic where have have to stop for a moment to let another train out of the station.

I did not re run the service, but I looked back over my history and I think it is safe to assume that the service is 83103 at 10:15. Thanks for catching the error; I corrected it on the sheet.

Since LFR is on sale (again), how about checking out D (200) Milano to Dortmund at 0630 utilizing the cab car? At the beginning of your journey you will notice a higher than average amount of AI (for LFR), but things really start to get interesting with adverse signals around Boppard. You will need the 628 layer from NID for this to work.

A fun run on the old but gold Boston Sprinter! Take train #911 from Boston to Stoughton with the MBTA F40. This is a short-ish run with plenty of action.

Starting at Boston you will have to stop immediately to let an incoming train pass. There's SPAD potential if you fail to notice the dwarf signal. Then you will be following a stopping service all the way to Canton junction for a fun ATC workout. Smooth ride to Stoughton after diverging at Canton junction.

A nice Acela run on NYT:
2168 Washington - Boston South Station at 15:50

ATC action as you encounter services into Newark and then Penn Station. One of them the is the ACS 64 driven Pennsylvanian 42 at 15:54, also a good run.

    Schnelfahrstrecke Kassel-Wurzberg - 50244 Ludwigshafen - Hamburg Billwerder @ 22:58

Exciting run with the gradient start, however, I had to wait around 40 minutes at the first stop (there were multiple trains I had to wait for) (from 23:26 until 0:02)
The entire run (with a little bit of struggle at the gradient start) took me 2 hours

Service 1P32 on Southeastern High Speed is amazing! Take your Class 375 to Gillingham. Run it in June.

I'm not sure if the start in June instruction is required for this. When you spawn in, a railtour service will be departing from Faversham. You will be chasing this service for some adverse signals. There is plenty of other traffic along the run as usual on this route. You will meet and pass the railtour service before the end of the run.

1G07 14:28 Blackpool North - Birmingham New Street is an interesting run on Blackpool Branches. I did it in June. I don't know whether that makes any difference, but it may do as the route has some seasonal services.

I had forgotten how spectacular this route is!

Here is an update. I am finally caught up; thanks for all the suggestions. The TSW 3 & 4 sheet has over 220 runs, including 8 GOATS.

I try to run most of the services, but can't do them all. Please check the service you recommended on the sheet to make sure that there are no errors and that the summary is reasonable. When you post, any short descriptions you can provide in the recommendation is appreciated and makes filling out the sheet easier. You can always hide it behind a spoiler tag.

Finally, as a show of appreciation for people who post runs here, but sure to drop a like on any that you enjoyed.

This is a great run! I did it with the Vectron which enabled more rapid hill starts, shortened the run, and also put me in a huge freight log jam outside K-W.

2P62 Man Vic - Blackpool N is an interesting run with a DMU (I used the 2-car class 101, but it's also available with a 142).

Personally I don't like to know, when I'm driving a service on this thread, why it is that it's considered particularly interesting. I like to find that out for myself, as a real driver would. When I'm choosing a run from the spreadsheet, I hold my hand across the screen in such a way that I can't accidentally see the 'comments' section which gives it away! However, I recognise that some people like to know in advance, so when I post on this thread I'll start adding some information behind a spoiler tag.

2P62 is one of those unusual services in TSW on which I'm pretty sure it's impossible to arrive on time - so it's not for you if your interest is in collecting gold medals.

You'll have a late departure from Preston due to having to await two trains making conflicting moves across the station throat. That's not an issue, because you get lots of time in the schedule to get to Kirkham, where you're held again for a fast train to overtake. The timetable seems to account for this, as you leave Kirkham on time, but you then get just 5 minutes for the run to Poulton - which is a 9 minute run. You should make up a bit of the time between Poulton and Blackpool, but there's no way you can recover all of it.

There seems to be an error in the schedule here, but as long as that doesn't bother you too much, this is a really interesting run with signal stops and lots of other train movements to observe.

Nice run! Thanks for the post and for the information; there are two 2P62s in the timetable. I ran the one at 11:30 in June and it behaved exactly as you described. The AI was nice; I got to race a Gronk into Blackpool N!

Ah yes, that’s the one - I knew there was a crucial bit of information I forgot.

I did not race a Gronk into Blackpool though, so after all the messing about we obviously ended up arriving at rather different times.

I took the other one, which is a quite straightforward run.
although i picked the orange pacer, and i ended up with a 4 car train with 2 cars in orange, and 2 cars in blue :)

JustWentSouth little error in the spreadsheet, the "185 NY Penn Station - Roanoke at 09:08" is with the ACS-64 instead of the acela.

BPO really is a great route for variety in running, particularly on the summer timetable with all the extras.

1Z59 Leicester - Blackpool N (14:33 from Preston) is a great run. You can choose the 40, but I recommend the 31 - with 7 coaches it's a real thrash, but you don't get it all your own way.

A clear run as far as Kirkham. Between there and Poulton you catch the train in front, then it's signal to signal from there to Blackpool.

    Nice run, indeed. :)
I do love these runs that represent more of the actual working on a railway - scheduled meets and so on. And I also got to race the Gronk - not sure why the Grobk didn’t want to race you, lcyrrjp :( Must’ve scared her or something.
    :D

With the new patch making 1116 available as a sub on Salzburg - Rosenheim, I couldn't resist trying out this freight run:

DGS (42874) Tarvisio Boscoverde to Krefeld Uerdingen at 04:57

You chase a 363 Manifest up the hill to Traunstein and you need to be smooth to avoid multiple hill starts. A nice train handling and PZB challenge to use the grade to your advantage.

You can do it with any freight loco you chose; picking anything other than the 1116 or the Vectron is your personal problem :)

HHL RE83 (11452) Hamburg Hbf to Kiel Hbf at 20:15 with the fabulous DB BR 218

Lots of great AI, especially around Hamburg; thanks Joethefish!
Run it in June for a nice sunset.

You follow a stopping service to Bargteheide with numerous adverse signals. It is fun to deal with PZB issues while being kind to the diesel transmission by changing it slowly and allowing time for it to empty and fill between notches 0 and 2.

There are multiple similar runs like this. It seems to be a standard for the timetable. One other I enjoyed:
RE83 (11428) at 08:15. Run this one in December for a nice sunrise.
