I play side by side on two identical monitors on two XBoxes. Unfortunately on my second account, screenshot uploads don't work, so it's harder to get comparison pics right now.

Can you share shots showing distant tree lods and baked shadows? Just so I can recall what that is.

I don’t know if this is the best explanation but it ‘feels’ like reducing a YouTube video from 1080p to 720p.

I’ve always had both TSW 2 and TSW 3 at 120% screen percentage and highest settings enabled but everything just seems a bit less sharp looking now imo.

  4. As soon as this eye patch can come off and I can see 100% I'll be happy to share some screenshots.

Here are chieflongshin's two videos for reference.
    In TSW2 (starting at 0:29)
    In TSW3 (starting at 1:03)
Pay attention to the trees to the left hand side across the river. As the camera zooms down the tracks, the various tree LODs load in accordingly. However you'll notice that in TSW3, there is a distinct phase of brighter-appearing LOD because a higher detail mesh loads in before the shadow draw distance catches up.

    upload_2022-10-23_15-58-8.png

In TSW2 this clearly doesn't happen.
    upload_2022-10-23_15-58-53.png

    I hope that helps.

    Cheers

I also dont think its worse then TSW2 but tree LOD, sharpness and shadow distance was already absolutely terrible in TSW2

Ok i'll try and recreate that here and pass it on to the team for comment - nothing should have changed there!

We do have an improvement coming in the next route that adds baked AO shadowing to the distant billboard trees - makes the general scene look much more balanced and gets rid of the flat lifeless green tree effect that's there at the moment, big improvement IMHO but nothing to with this.

    Thanks
    Matt.

Could AO be added to the trees on SEHS Matt?

Are we all experiencing a really bad case of the mandela effect?

No one has picked up this massive leak here. New route has trees. You heard it here second. I'm downloading TSw2 again so I can help with comparisons.

Is that something that can be simply turned on on all routes, or is it a painstaking route by route (tree by tree?) process again?

Somewhere between the two, let's make sure it's good first then figure out backporting. I have asked the dev in question to let me know how long it would take for that but I can't make promises :)

It’s such a longstanding issue with the visuals in the game that, either way, it’s really good news it’s being addressed.

Essen connection scenario on Rhein Ruhr. I'll be honest, on this one I'm not seeing much difference. Ultra settings on both.

    TSW2 shots have the HUD.

These are all scenarios, tricky tunnels this one is.

I definitely prefer the way TSW 2 looks in rainy weather. It looks much more natural and darker looking, as well as there being shadowing on the foliage. TSW 3 in comparison just looks so flat.

DTG Matt One thing I noticed yesterday is that when toggling the rain on TSW 3, it’ll make the whole environment a lot brighter? Almost like the raindrops are reflecting light or something?

    Yeah - I think that's evident here.

That's on SEHS though isnt it? So you're mixing lighting systems up there too - best to do that comparison on a non TOD4 route. Shadowing on trees is probably darker simpyl because the light levels are generally darker on TOD3 rather than it being a specific thing on the tree's (because again, nothing was changed there).

I guess when doing comparisons we need to be really clear if we're saying TSW2 vs TSW3 (which means *all* content affected) or TOD3 vs TOD4. I don't expect differences TSW2 to TSW3, I *do* expect differences TOD3 to TOD4 and we can have a discussion about which of those differences are better/worse separately :)

    Matt.

TSW3 - I just started this service in Journey mode. I haven't a comparison but this does to me show what londonmidland is talking about. Its like the centre point, your natural focal point in the screen is a greatly reduced quality. I've tried to highlight but nothing seems sharp. This is service 1J38, I don't know if it's a lighting thing or an AA (I'm on TAA) or what. The ballast texture to my eyes from in cab view looks low res too.

I think from what I've seen so far myself Matt TOD3 to TOD3 on the two games other than the cloud thing we can see seems to be nigh on identical.

EDIT - TSW3 - Two more pics here, the one further out from the station again looks a bit off. I'm not sure if my expectations are too high or if the lighting blurs things together. Incidentally check out the frame rates. Route ran at a solid 65fps from London until here and something is hitting it hard.

    EDIT(1j38 in journey mode)

    Sorry Matt yes.
My own visual conclusions are TOD 3 I can't really see much if any difference between TSW2 -3.

The last couple of posts were exploration into TSW3 TOD4 only as this was where I do feel there seems to be some difference but I can't put my finger on if it's LOD, lighting, placebo, old age or madness.

What I can do later is switch to the dev build and do some direct comparison shots of SEHS running in TOD3 and TOD4 see how they look.

  25. I think it's lighting mainly on sehs, its too bright and making everything blurry. It's the same on sos but much worse.

easiest way to check that then is try a later/earlier time of day to soften the lighting and see how it compares.

  27. When I get home from work I'll have a play at different times. Since tsw3 I've preferred playing at sunrise/sunset as it does look a lot better.

    Thanks.

  28. I'll get a couple of shots with the light shining thru the trees as this does seem to have a big effect on how they look.
