If it is the Peninsula corridor, unfortunately just geeps run down there I think. Probably a GP38, GP40, or maybe GP60... some people thought that the one in TS was actually designed for TSW, since it has more detail.

I'm down for that theory. The TS1 version looks good.

Speaking of, why TSW 2020? This is going to be a marketing confusion cluster if they do TS2020.

So basically just a new route, bi level cars with cabcar and one new loco? And some UP geeps? Whats the alternative

I hope it's not the Peninsula Corridor. I've already played that route quite a bit on Train Simulator.

Raildan, what would be a likely alternative route? Surfliner?

Some Pacific Surfliner stations do have that style of platform so it is possible.

It could also be Sounder in Washington as this type of platform is also used there.

Let's look at some platforms, shall we?

    Teaser:

    Surfliner:

...I'm afraid it looks like the thicker yellow bit is just a bit too wide, but DTG may have missed that TBH. Still think Peninsula corridor is more likely, it's shorter anyway- the whole Surfliner route is way too long for TSW compared to everything else so far.

If it's any consolation, I suppose San Jose to Gilroy is possible, which sees very few freight trains, but mainline ones with 6 axle power. I don't think this is likely, though, they'll probably go for the busier bit.

I'm also wondering... can consoles even handle long American freight trains? If I remember correctly, they had to shorten the HST's from GWE to make them work on consoles... and those aren't very long. Perhaps the performance lags too much on consoles if you have multiple, 100+ car trains on a route, and that's why they are sticking with more local moves for the moment?

Oh, missed the discussion about Sounder. I don't find that likely... Sounder operates on BNSF tracks...

And actually, so does Pacific Surfliner, but only the south part. North part is even longer than the part to San Diego, though, unfortunately.

... I just realized... if the Peninsula Corridor *is* the next route...

..then just like GWE, we'll get another route with electrification under construction. Just funny timing.

I wonder if we'll get a bunch of people begging for KISS EMU's in a few years' time?

Anyone else wonder why the new menu is called "streamlined" Possibly a hint towards a future suggestion?

Agreed! There's no obligation to update the time period of the route to keep it modern. Sorry guys.

I think that just means it's simpler, sorry.

Don't know anything about CalTrain, but did a quick Wikipedia search on it, and it seems like electrification is planned and there are two Amtrak AEM7 test trains ready to go. Wonder if it'll be like GWE where we see catenary and construction equipment all over, despite it being a diesel route.

Also, how much farther is Gilroy from San Jose. If they're going to do a route, might as well go all the way, especially since there's reference material already in TS1, and if they want to set a new precedence for TSW2020.

Oh, electrification is well underway. There are centenary poles over much of the route, last I checked, no wires yet, but that could have changed by now- they plan to use those AEM-7's for testing by the end of this year!

It would be an interesting contender for an idea I had when the editor comes out, which is to try and take an existing route and model it in the future. I think I would do LIRR first, with East Side Access, the third track, M9's and everything... if I had the skill to do so, of course. Which I don't, lol.

Gilroy to San Jose is roughly another 30 miles of route, with the section from San Fran to San Jose being ~47 miles in length. Doubt we'll see the entire corridor but that would be sweet.

Dang it more EMD standard cabs if this is the route and it includes freight. Though I've always wanted to see a F40ph in person. I've never seen a operating one. Actually I've never seen a passenger train like Amtrak, Caltrain, Metro North and etc.

Alright I have to step in here. NOBODY currently outside of DTG has the skill to do any of these editor projects. Why not?

    The editor isn't released!

If you have the dedication once the editor is released, then you will learn the skills needed to extend LIRR to include ESA, etc. Oh, and I happen to have plotted the tracks already in Google Earth. Preliminary plot, but a plot nonetheless. Which was done with official engineering diagrams. Anyway, I'd provide it.

Point is, you can learn the editor and then obtain resources in order to make this project a reality. I am sick and tired of people saying they won't make a route because they aren't good at it.

Woah, ok. I certainly have plenty of time to figure out that I'm bad at modeling assets and don't always have enough free time to have that dedication, though...

And I do have other route ideas that might make a lot more sense to start off with. Reused assets, more reference material, etc. So I'm not just giving up without even trying.

Sorry to sound harsh or overly-passionate in my previous post. It's just that people who say they do not have the skills end up not doing anything about it and just beg for content. Glad to hear you aren't one of them.

So does this mean that the Heavy Haul AC physics weren't also for another route? Just thought of that.

Could be for something else one day, but yeah, wouldn't be for this (again assuming that we have the route right, remember thread title).

Again, maybe we'll get an MP15AC for LIRR. That's AC traction, technically. I'm sure it's a bit different but hey.

The CSX physics updates were for CSX. Future content or not, it was always the plan to fix CSX for its own sake. Sure, future DLC May be able to benefit from it, but that was not the only motivation. Just look at GWE; that got physics updates and there has not been another HST or Class 66 released since then.
Just because some physics got updated doesn’t suddenly mean that locomotive will be used again.

The MP15AC is nothing special. It just has an AC alternator with DC motors...AKA the exact same setup as something like a GP38-2 (with a smaller engine, of course) and quite lower tech than an AC4400CW.

What a great opportunity this would be for them to release the editor/construction tools when they update to TSW 2020.

I think the new route is going to be the San Diego - Los Angeles coast line , former ATSF line. It is going to bet set in the 80s/90s, when Amtrak ran the "San Diegan" with amfleet cars and ex-metroliner cab cars for push-pull operation. This rolling stock is already available in TSW; DTG just have to design the loco, the F40PH.

Meanwhile I can model prettymuch whatever I want but I can't do much route building. What are these other routes that you are thinking about?

looks a good route! There’s new Signals and new envirometal upgrades to Dovetail do. My doubt is the dirt on train, it isn’t a license problem. In reality theres no clean amtrak trains.

IDK, lately DLC have been announced about 2 weeks before release, and this time we know the release date- August 14th. So I think it would be announced on August 1st, with any teasers for it coming earlier that week.

TSW2020 may have been announced earlier than was planned since it was discovered on SteamDB so they may announce the route earlier than the usual 2 weeks.

He can’t give actual facts here. This thread is only for baseless speculation. (And apparently, inspired and accurate deductive reasoning.)
