Braking Distance

    Does anyone know the braking distance for the "GWR Class 166" ?

    It depends at which station, along what gradient and what speed you are travelling at

    If you want to know a braking distance do a test run. Pick a scenario where you know you'll have a good long run up, get up to your desired speed and then pick a marker, either a signal or station where you get the distance on screen
    When you get to a certain distance away, say 900yards, apply the brakes on your chosen setting, say notch 2
    DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING
    you should then see how long it takes to grind to a halt or can work it out from how far before (or after) your stop or station you go

    as saltychipz#3569 says, this will change depending on rail conditions and gradient. Going uphill you will stop faster and going downhill you may not stop at all!

    Braking on notch 2, the distances are (and this is a guideline, depends on grade and stuff):
    50mph --> 400yd
    60mph --> 550yd
    70mph --> 750yd
    80mph --> 900yd
    90mph --> 0.8mi
