I think the dependencies are the same as V4. About to fire it up now with a Studio Polygon Renown and do the 103, which I was watching on one of Joe Dobson's YT clips earlier.

And it's supposed to be a simulator... with no visibility in the rearview mirrors...
I wouldn't want to see the state of your vehicle's sides when you get it back to the depot ! :D

There is a full visibility in the rearview mirrors. For that a driver needs only to move his head and eyes )

...and choose a realistic view (unlike the screenshot shown). :D

But of course, everyone plays as they wish.

My screenshot was to show off the superb scenery on Thuringer Wald, nothing more, nothing less. And as Denis mentioned you can adjust your POV to check mirrors etc. depending on the bus.

So not really sure what the point of your rather scathing post was. Yes, OMSI 2 is an old game, looks like MSTS or Run 8 compared to TSW. Can be frustrating and temperamental as I discovered last night when a save game on the Lincolnshire V5 map failed to load with an out of range error message. But it’s still the best bus sim out there with many different routes and range of vehicles both payware and freeware to choose from. The sound and physics are first class and the newest competitor, The Bus, just spent several years in early access but still looks and plays like a beta despite being declared as out of development not to mention still very buggy. The only serious competitor to OMSI 2 might be the bus and coach add on for ETS2, when it turns up. But that is likely to run on the same paradigm as the trucks, just shifting bus loads of passengers from A to B with no fare collection, no intermediate stops and no pithy remarks about your bus being cold or the quality of the drive from the NPC characters!

Yeah I wasn't targeting the way you play, but rather what can be said about the game based on your screenshot. ;)
In fact, I've always been disappointed by bus simulators so far (compared to reality), and as a result, I tend to immediately see the glass as half empty rather than half full. :|
A bit like the forum member named Bryer who finds the Class 66 appalling, whereas most of us appreciate it.

Yes because the class 66 is shocking compared to what they are like in real life.

Anyhow, I managed to get one of the Masterswitch Volvos up to 60 MPH last night on the empty run from Gainsborough to Kirton. The engine was screaming most satisfactorily… However still got the issue with the Masterswitch buses on the Lincolnshire map that if you load a saved game, the timetable/diagram and where you are on it doesn’t load back in. And for some reason the Studio Polygon buses really don’t like that map and crash the game when you try to load a save, but work fine on other maps.

Anyhow tonight’s project is to get Bowdenheath up and running which I’ve had kicking around in Downloads for a few days while faffing around with Lincolnshire.

Bowdenheath up and running (I hope) but do we know of a route map or diagram that shows the whole network? There’s a huge list of services to operate but not much information on where they go or where you need to spawn your bus. Also which are the longer distance country routes rather than in town, so I can get thrashing those lovely Cummins engine Enviro 200’s or 400’s up to 50MPH!

Is there not a map inside the download ZIP? If not there is probably one you can DL on Fellowsfilm.

For service types though the B1 through B6 will be your urban crawlers, with everything else being more regional, though most of the map is suburban anyway.

The 408 is probably the most rural run & then the 800 is a non stop service that basically drives the arterial road right up the map. The 437 is my favourite though.

Thanks, I'll check through the folders again later.

Just had 45 minutes on a real Dennis Enviro 200, across Swindon for a hospital appointment. Cummins and Voith heaven!

Interesting - I think the crash on loading a save game on Lincs 5 may be more to do with the bus than the map as I had the same issue trying to load a saved game on Bowdenham with the identical Studio Polygon Enviro 400. Gets so far then freezes with the out of range error message. And apparently on Lincolnshire the failure to reload the timetable is a known issue, something to do with how the author set up the bus stops which is a bit of a shame as many of the runs are well over an hour in length. I mean, you can reload the timetable and select from the pull down menu the next stop (if you remember or wrote it down) but it destroys the immersion a bit.

I took the plunge and bought the Japanese map. So far, so good - you don’t actually need the improved weather or Asian people pack to run it, just get the standard weather and default western NPC’s boarding the bus. So looking forward to a run on that later. Will add the two packs in a sale as my Steam Wallet now somewhat drained and the local shops appear to have run out of gift cards (again!).

Vern, another freeware map to try is Westcountry 3 based on Totnes and Paignton. A very detailed and great looking UK map. I have 3.02 but noticed it's now 3.03, need to upgrade. Available on Fellowsfilm.

That was the first one I grabbed when I got back into OMSI. Very nice map.

Re the Japanese map… After a deeper dive last night, I would hesitate to recommend at full price. The detail is superb but as some of the Steam reviews mention, the world ends abruptly with an obvious 2D scenic break in many locations. Performance was okay but loading into a save game, all the tour and timetable information had disappeared, Shift Y for the HUD didn’t always work and when I tried to restart the run by calling up the tour and timetable menu, both had completely blank fields.

The routes and stops are poorly labelled on the overhead assist. I had to drive around the bus station several times to hit the correct stop and then immediately got lost on leaving. So you probably need OMSI Nav or that Bus Company Manager installed to get a proper GPS map on the screen.

Traffic lights are hard to see. The bus sounds aren’t great, maybe they sound like that IRL but not a patch on the Masterswitch or Studio Polygon sounds.

Starting a new run, when I tried to save after about 20 minutes the save dialog box never appeared.

So for now I have refunded (though note it has left all the route and bus files in place!) will probably rebuy when at least 50% off.

Thanks for the write up, I’ll probably give it a swerve until the dev has made some progress on it then.

I also wouldn’t recommend using save games, OMSI is just way too unstable for it.

Yes it makes TSW save game look good! Though briefly firing up The Bus last night, they still haven’t fixed the bug there either, where loading a saved game the tour and timetable are reverting to the first stop of of the first leg and you can’t reset the IBIS/Atron either.
