After the excellent work done with some of the other "preserved" collection, notably the Class 45 and in particular the 37, I was looking forward to hearing the 40 roar in all its glory. Sadly, I found it does not quite emulate the prototype, hard to articulate but while it sounds okay at idle, on full bore it seems tinny - as if it's only firing on half the cylinders. Compared to the Class 40 in RW/TS or the various iterations in MSTS/OR it is a bit disappointing. Has anyone else come to this conclusion? Hopefully the sounds can be revisited at some point.
To be honest Vern as someone who travelled on BR a lot in the so called blue era, I would not really know what driving a class 40 should sound like, so I do not have the experience to comment. It would be nice for someone who has driven class 40s to give their opinion. My friend has driven most of the 37/40 locomotives and even the Royal Train, he is now on Leeds to London Azumas. but at the moment I cannot ask him round for is opinion, due to the present restrictions.
