A question regarding the formations of the AP 411 - were these MUs always 4 cars as per their alternative 4CEP name, or were they ever joined into 2x 4=8 car units?
They ran in up to 12 cars combinations. Depending on the service there may also have been a 4 BEP in the formation (a CEP with Buffet car)
The also ran in a 13 car formation on the Victoria - Dover Boat trains with a MLV attached at the London end https://www.kentrail.org.uk/class_419_MLV.htm https://www.kentrail.org.uk/Class 411 & 412.htm https://www.flickr.com/photos/30389998@N03/10875656764/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/13706945@N00/2994310876
4CEP was always the type of the unit. As now with modern multiple units, multiple trains can connect to form larger formations.
Thanks, I was probably labouring under the misapprehension that a 4ABC was only ever on its own and never joined up.
If you have any of the 4 car emus available the quick drive formations usually come as 4, 8 or 12 car sets.
