There are three 465 models in the game. AP used the original 465 model, which has some inaccuracies but is mostly alright. They also used the DTG 365 which was based on the same model, but I don't know what they used from it bar the cab. DTG made a /0 model for the original Chatham Main Line, which is among the worst models ever created for Train Simulator. Then DTG ported the much better looking /9 model from TSW albeit still with its own inaccuracies. This is the best model overall, and I assume AP would have used it had the Networker packs been made later on. The AP Networker packs, like most of their enhancement packs, have a number of issues. Despite a DTG 466 using the same base model existing, AP did not use it. I can't remember if they used a child object to cover over the windows where the toilet would be in the 466, but I do know that the passengers appear in the wrong model because they forgot to change it. There are some other problems that come from using the 365 cab, but while it would have been better if they didn't have those issues most AP packs fall into the 'good enough' category and don't really need a replacement. The only recent exception I think are the 317 and 318 packs, because of how misproportioned the model is. Calling packs like the new HST pack 'low quality' is quite bold of you. There are ways it could be better, but that does not mean it's bad in the slightest. I don't listen to what YouTubers have to say about products in TS. I make my own mind up when it comes to these things because I feel confident and experienced enough to decide myself. I don't think Schnauzer is a manbaby, even though I don't like his reviews. I do, however, think that Yawwie is childish. He reminds me a bit of the person I was five or so years ago. I occasionally watch some of his videos for a laugh, but a credible reviewer I don't think he is. The 745 video is barely a review, and in a few years I think he'll probably look back on that one with regret. I don't like the 745 pack anyway, but the outrage over the price caused quite a few people (Yawwie included) to lose all sense of reason and act like children. The 745 is quite obviously not anywhere near as bad as some people made it out to be, but I would agree that it didn't justify its price for a variety of reasons. I wouldn't mind a train pack in TS costing that much if it had enough to justify the cost. The new MTU HST does justify its cost, in my opinion. I'm not too sure about the Class 142's price, but I have warmed up to it over time.
Those are strawman arguments. Anyone can make those mistakes, including me. I do those same things very often, and they're not fun, but still happen. And, since we're talking about trying to run a train without seeing how it works first, are we just going to forget the negative steam reviews on all three VRC dlc locomotive pages, which happen to be typed by morons who don't even read the manuals before they try operating a Pro Range locomotive? If you're going to criticize someone who criticizes terrible Train Sim dlc, then you could at least avoid using strawman arguments and ignoring the whole reason they provide criticism in the first place. I usually LOVE on DTM and HIS any chance I get, and rightfully so. If you're going to keep making terrible dlc, and you know your dlc is dog water and needs to be a lot better (especially since we're in 2024 and not 2013), then you can't get mad when people start criticizing your LOVE. Additionally, if developers actually put effort into their dlc, then we wouldn't even be having this conversation yet here we are. When you see a toad, you call it a toad. When you see a snake, you call it a snake. When you see LOVE, you call it LOVE. That's how things work. If you want to openly support wasting money on crappy content that is nothing more than reskinned, reused bullcrap that would give Activision a run for their money, then that's fine, but it doesn't make you or anyone else defending this nonsense any less enabling, reckless and gullible. And if Searchlight Simulations, Diesel Workshop, JointedRail, Searchlight Simulations, MachineRail, Smokebox, Reppo, and VRC can make quality stuff that still holds up to this day, then HIS and DTM can do the same, yet they don't, so I'm with the reviewers. Until certain devs stop handing out slop and can actually cook without burning the house down, I and the reviewers will continue providing criticism, which is vital to development, because that's how you improve things. You listen to feedback and improve what needs to be improve. Also, like I said before, the reviewers are nothing compared to me. I tend to be less generous when I see aged, reskinned LOVE that has been used and abused for years.
Hello? Toxic arguments belong to the US thread which we're used to being locked every now and then again. This is about the british AP HST.
I wasn't calling the HST Pack low quality. I was referring to certain US content from certain developers. I remember clearly saying I like AP content. I was just pointing out some things that needed to be worked on. In case I wasn't specific or clear enough, I was calling HIS and DTM content low quality. And I meant what I said. I call things how I see them, I don't put on rose-tinted glasses and just throw money at every "new" dlc that comes out and looks shiny. I made that mistake with DTM's EMD UP F3 pack, and I wasn't too happy about how butchered the dlc was. It was a lazy nightmare. Yawwie, is far from childish. Like Schnauzahpowahz, Yawwie wants to see improvements, not cash grabs that have barely any effort put into them. The Class 745 was a complete shitshow and the fact ATS even tried defending his absurd price for a locomotive pack that not only had poor optimization, but the original trailer was terrible and poorly thought out, not to mention the inaccurate seats, unappealing texturing, meh cab, awful sounds that would make Trainz Simulator 2 sound better, and the drama that went on. Yeah, I can't even imagine someone wanting to pirate that shitshow of a dlc that ATS has cursed the Train Sim Community with. If you can't make quality content, what do you think is going to happen? Even American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator are on point, and they're truck simulators. This is a Train Simulator, and while I'm at it, I'll be even more bold, and say that Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 and 2022 get better content than this, and while Trainz is a model railroad simulator franchise, developers like JR, RRmods, K&L Trainz, N3V Games, HP Trainz, and even freeware developers produce better North American content. And it's not difficult or too much to ask of developers to make better content. They can do that; they have the means to do it, yet they don't for whatever bs reason. You just can't defend this LOVE man. It's pointless and a waste of time. Both Yawwie and Sean saved me and a lot of other sensible individuals, who actually love Train Sim and want better for the entire train sim franchise and also want devs to do better and improve, a lot of money. Finally, considering that modders have to improve the sounds, lights and functions of, you guessed it, DTM and HIS LOVE, criticism from Sean, Yawwie and I, are justified and warranted, because that's how you improve, by listening to feedback from your customers.
Mind you, I'm not being toxic. Idk about anyone else, but I'm just being truthful and providing constructive criticism. But, yeah, had I known this was a UK content forum, I would have not brought the discussion of US content into it.
OK, let's go with your viewpoint....now how do we determine just what quality level is acceptable? in fact no, let's first consider just what we define as *quality*--does it include features, and if it does which features?
It was not a Strawman argument even if you misunderstood my comments but more on the style Schnauzahpowahz does his reviews. He might be reviewing a great piece of DLC or the worse available but his style is Childish.
To answer your question, when I think of quality train sim stuff, I think of Searchlight Simulations, amongst other developers. I go by this checklist when it comes to Train Sim dlc: -Are the sounds true to life; When I compare the simulated sounds to real life sounds, they should sound almost the same. -Are the sounds clean; There shouldn't be a very audible loop or crack in the sound effects. They shouldn't sound like nails to a chalkboard unless they actually do sound like nails to a chalkboard. -Are the textures crispy and on point; Do the paint, weathering, and materials reflect their real-life counterparts? -Is it well optimized; My laptop should be able to handle the content I'm using. -Are the lights correct; Not every locomotive on the planet has white lights, and those that do, don't have cartoonish looking headlight colors. -Are the functions, start-up/shut down procedures and other features as true to life as humanly possible; Does it function how it would in real life? -Is the price fair or justified? -Is the 'Pro Range' label actually justified; Does the content have true-to-life functions and procedures that would make it pro-range? -Am I able to compare this to modern Trainz Railroad Simulator Content; If for example, I take an SD40-2 model from this game and compare it to a JointedRail SD40-2 or RRmods SD40-2, it should match the quality of either of the two. But you heard Spike. It's best we just agree to disagree and move on.
And I'm sure you could just imagine "I" not being there. I'm also pretty sure I said we'll just have to agree to disagree and move on.
