Hopefully no one has had difficulties starting their TS Class 50 as this real world one:
I remember watching a pair of 40s going through similar troubles, back in their final days, after being stabled for almost a month. Diesel locos, particularly of that generation, didn't like to be stood around doing nothing for extended periods.

What are the clouds of white? Condensate, oil smoke, unburnt diesel? If it's mostly condensate, then not too environmentally damaging.
Unburnt diesel... and plenty of it..
