Like the previous releases, I will be purchasing directly from the JT web shop to support the dev.

It looks the same, but it isn't.

The 86 is maxed at 100mph, and has less power than the 87 so the driving experience will be different.

Plus, you get some more coach variants.

So to me, that makes it worth it.

Indeed. Performance wise the 86 will be like the 87 with a traction motor isolated. And Tom did say on his stream the sounds are subtly different from the 87.

One thing the manual doesn’t mention, that I can see, is I assume same as on the 87 if you isolate a traction motor to make the run more, ahem, interesting, it does seem to disable the regenerative braking. So factor that in when judging your stopping distances.

Today's the day it get released into the wild! :D
I await the feedback thread with interest.
I wonder whether the services originally 87-hauled were timed for 86s, or we're now going to be unable to keep to time as the 86s have less power...???

Thankfully I've got a deadline to meet for a work project today so can't be distracted until this evening!

I believe it was stated on one of streams that the services that should have been 86’s were timed at 100 MPH, so there shouldn’t be any issue keeping time. Unless like me you play silly boogers and decide to knock out a traction motor to make things more… fun.

Anyhow the only slight distraction is that I have a stubborn Windows Update to try and get bedded down but hopefully that will be sorted by 6PM.

Just got back from Sainsbury’s with a £20 Steam Wallet voucher, slight technical hitch at their checkout paying for it as coming up as a security threat! Sneaked it in past the wife and successfully credited (despite Sainsbury’s) so just waiting for 1800.

It's a shame you can't get Nectar points on gift cards at Sainsbury's given amount I spend on Steam!

I'm waiting too. Also got into a slightly heated discussion in the TSC Discord regarding multiple working capability, despite the JT website and manual stating (at time of writing):

"The liveries with the RCH (Railway Clearing House) designation have a set of jumper cables installed at each end of the locomotive to allow communication via the TDM (Time Division Multiplex) system between the leading locomotive and any trailing one or DVT vehicle."

This reads like the RCH fitted locos are simulating full TDM but in the discussion it transpires that actually, just like the 87 the versions we're getting only have RCH for driver-guard signalling and not multiple working.
If I was JT, I'd reword it slightly to mention the fact as to not sound like false advertising OR receive a load of "bug reports" that the (not simulated) TDM MU system isn't working.

I always forget the Nectar card as the wife keeps it on her!

Sainsbury’s can be a bit erratic as they don’t always have them on display, sometimes you have to use the Argos counter. We also have an Asda within my “secret cycle trip” range but again you have to buy them when you see them.

Anyhow less than seven hours to go now…

Nectar is my lifeblood. I save the points and convert them into Eurostar vouchers every couple of years. I do enjoy a free trip or a massively discounted one!

But I digress, roll on 6pm!

Yes, you're right, of course! The only thing holding you back would be the lower acceleration, even with all four traction motors enabled ;)

I think I enjoy the the 86 more than the 87 tbh, the way it looks inside and out, the low hum of the fans, it’s all very pleasing IMG_2629.jpeg IMG_2630.jpeg

As I posted elsewhere, looks good but too expensive for a loco pack, especially one without its own timetable. $5 less and I might have gone for it.

Only done a couple of full length runs in it, but have to say I agree with you on that. Enjoyed every minute with it so far and no doubt another couple of runs before bedtime !

Ran a couple of express passenger runs last night. Have to say, the pack is about the quality you'd expect from JT. Bought it more for the stock than the loco itself. In fact, it's almost the same to drive as the 87. Just less powerful and responsive!

The true "rockstar" of this pack, the highly requested BR Mk1 RMB Buffet coach! OldVern (Sorry, Vern... This has become some sort of legendary ritual!).

Don't know if it's just a coincidence, but both formations I led were predominantly IC Executive Liveried.
Overall, rate this content 9.5/10! Great job, JT! Recommend it only to true BR period enthusiasts!

PS. Hoping for another future DLC, with a nice 85 or similar for freight services (another 86 subclass would also be nice thought)!

The most obvious sub class would be the 86/1 because of the fact the 87 is already built. 110mph running, can sub them on the 87 Mk3 services. Downside only 3.
I think most folk would like a modern-ish variant like the 86/6 at some point. Wouldn't mind a Freightliner one.

Class 85 would be amazing though as you have them subbing on some cross country services, they would work on freight trains including containers and they would even do the odd Glasgow Central to London Euston working. They were the unheralded workhorses of the WCML.
And those sounds! I miss them so much. Class 81 and 85 were my favourites. Couldn't beat a roarer!

Yes. With all my complaining about " electric toy trains " dominating the game, I really should be buying this loco pack to support real trains, meaning loco hauled passenger and freight.

But it's so very like the '87 which I already enjoy driving. I feel like I'd be paying just for a restaurant car.

And compare this pack with the HSP46 pack which at least had its own scenarios and services and is properly integrated into its route?

If you're from the UK and are a BR restaurant car afficianado, this might be just the ticket for you. But for the rest of us it just doesn't add $25 of value to WCML. Some separate services and integration into another route for a lower price might have added up to maybe $19 and change.
