The Victory Line is an approximately 100-kilometer, double-track, electrified main line from Cologne to Siegen. Both terminals are in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, around 28 kilometers run in Rhineland-Palatinate. The Victory route was originally built as part of the Deutz-Gießener Railway. The maximum permissible speeds amounts to Troisdorf with 160 km / h. From Troisdorf only 120 km / h (140 km / h in sections.

    History / origin:

Today's victory route consists of the western part of the Deutz-Gießener Eisenbahn (DGE) to Betzdorf and theirs Branch line from Betzdorf to Siegen. The original DGE ran over the Betzdorf – Haiger railway from Betzdorf Via Herdorf and Burbach (Kr Siegen) to Haiger and from there on over the Dill route via Dillenburg to Gießen. When the direct route between Siegen and Haiger went into operation in 1915, traffic shifted, Siegen became the new hub.

In 1865 there were four passenger trains between (Cologne) Deutz and Siegen, which took 4 hours each way and took 11 minutes to drive. An express train that only stopped at the stations, but not at the stops,
Took 2 hours and 38 minutes for the same distance.

The victory flood in 1909 damaged numerous bridges. The bridge in Herchen was so badly damaged that it was Had to be rebuilt from scratch. In 1914 numerous special trains were used to carry German troops for to transport the First World War to their deployment area, the Eifel.

    Course:

The route leads from Cologne Messe / Deutz station via Porz (Rhine), Troisdorf, Siegburg, Hennef (Sieg), Au (Sieg) and Betzdorf (Sieg) to Siegen Hbf.

Between Cologne and Troisdorf, it takes all of them to the Steinstraße junction in Cologne's Porz district
Regional and long-distance traffic. At the Steinstraße junction, the ICE trains change to the same height
High-speed route Cologne – Rhine / Main. The separate S-Bahn line ends immediately afterwards, so that on the Victory route, the regional and S-Bahn trains remain. The freight traffic coming from Gremberg is parallel from there a pair of tracks is available to Troisdorf.

The right line of the Rhine branches off at Troisdorf station. In the area of the Siegburg / Bonn train station, the Victory route from the high-speed route Cologne – Rhine / Main and then reaches the eponymous Siegtal. in the further it follows the river, where it meanders with the help of a multitude of tunnels and bridges cuts through. It is characteristic tat as a result of war damage, two of them are five kilometers long Sections are only in operation on a single track.

The track of the Oberwesterwaldbahn from the direction of Altenkirchen joins the Au (Sieg) station. The following stations from Etzbach via Betzdorf to Niederschelden (district Niederschelderhütte of the local community Mudersbach) are in Rhineland-Palatinate. In Betzdorf, travelers can change to the Hellertalbahn and Daadetalbahn. With the breakpoint Niederschelden Nord reaches the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Niederschelden district of the city of Siegen.
