thanks ... I know I repeatedly asked this, but I guess I will keep asking until I find someone or more ppl who can help Intermezzo: thanks ppl for your patience I have been testing Sifa, more specifically Sifa Zwangsbremsung recovery... the usual steps include pressing Q (Sifa acknowledge button), then zeroing throttle and then once traction lock releases, apply power again... I have found that on some consists the penalty application is too strong and releases too slow, leading to stops so here are additional questions to that, maybe you can help me pin down if I set sth wrong: 1) Should I set my Vmax to 200 or 160? I mean, should I set the Vmax as the actual vmax of the loco or the maximum speed I know I am going to drive on that particular route? Like on Kassel it is 200, Dresden Riesa and Rosenheim Salzburg are 160 etc. 2) What train mass should I use for the coaches? The "loaded" one (aka the bigger number) or the lower "empty" one? Aka I am going to assume the train actually has passengers in it, so should I use the "loaded" number? Because the train mass that the game provides if you go into pause menu can differ by quite a lot I have found 3) Assuming my calculations are correct, usually the end result of BrH is either 180 or 200... lets say I get a value that has corresponding end value of 200... should I use that or rather input 180? Is this going to impact my braking, as well as penalty braking? y know, it is not that I want to get Sifa penalties, but I want to be ready if it happens, and recover while still moving if I can ... so what I am PROBABLY trying to find out is how to set my train and brakes right so the braking would be good but in the case of Sifa penalty also kinda more forgiving, if you know what I mean ? I know that for most of you guys this is not a real issue... but knowing how to recover your train and still keep moving is sth I would like to know for this special situation that doesnt happen often, but it happens
1. The VMAX for the ZDE is 220 from a BRH150 or higher .. If you look in the manual on page 50 or in the loco there is a sheet and you can see on brake mode 9 with BRH180 = 220. 2. You always use the highest number.... Also if you do a empty stock move To use the sheet you have 3 parts where you have to look with a IC formation... The BRH im Zug - Einstelwert BRH - And the one with the VMZ.... The VMZ is always brake 9, its a R+MG train (magnetic brakes) so look to the most right side 3. If you did not calculate the weight for braking and the braking force your'e train can get in trouble due to the braking will go wrong and you can overshoot in the worst scenario a red or you brake way to harsh
this is regarding the Vmax from the manual as well: "VMZ: Max Speed. This is also findable around every carriage. Enter the lowest value found, this may be the timetable speed, the speed according to the ZDE sheet, or the lowest value of one of the carriages of the consist. (in multiples of 10, so for 200km/h, enter 20). " so if I understand it right, lets say the BrH table gives me Vmax 220, but the locos and carriages have vmax 200, but the service/route may be only 160... which one do I enter? If I understand this correctly, lets say in Dresden Riesa that would be 160 kph, on Kassel it would be 200 lets say lets say a particular consist I am driving now on Dresden Riesa is this: Maximum track speed on this route is 160 kph BR 101 + 2x 1st class + 4x 2nd class + cab car train length - 203m => 210m train mass - 443t braked weight - 904t BrH im Zug - 204 BrH - 180 Vmax - 220 so do I set the ZDE data to: 9 18 21 16 9 18 21 20 9 18 21 22 ?
Its in this calculation: 9 18 21 22 Thats not always the same if you have more coaches or have 2 locos the whole calculation is different If you check my picture there is the calculation that i shared Correct by cwf.green 9.18.21.200/160 depends on the max track speed and maximum coach speed
Always the lowest out of [lowest vehicle max allowed speed in formation] and [max allowed speed according to timetable]. Both the coaches and the BR101 are limited to 200 km/h. The Metropolitan BR101 used to be allowed up to 220 km/h, but that is not the variant simulated in the game, and even if it was the coaches would still limit the train to 200 km/h. On Salzburg-Rosenheim and Dresden-Riesa the VMZ would be 160 km/h while on Kassel-Würzburg it is 200 km/h. So to answer your question it is 9 18 21 16 (Dresden-Riesa) or 9 18 21 20 (Kassel-Würzburg). Edit: The Kassel-Würzburg number assumes you are driving a normal IC. If the formation is the Nightjet with auto-wagons then you'd set VMZ to 16 (although the wagons in the game are limited to 120 km/h the train is meant to portray the ÖBB DDm wagons which can travel at 160 km/h).
Very impressive, the pantograph uses air and its manometer even works . I emptied the entire 101s Main reservoir including the Steuerventil, + the Hilfsluftsystems. Then after switching the HL on, the air pressure raised until 7 bar. Nice little detail. "Low air pressure to put the HS
the nice thing is if you try to enter 22, it still sets the Vmax to 200, as it somehow recognizes the loco I guess tried all three variants, very little difference, but, as stated by cwf.green: ok so Dresden Riesa I got to set Vmax to 160 kph, thanks a lot, saved into my Google Document as I said somewhere, I created a doc where I would save useful information given by any of you guys, for future reference anyway, did some more Sifa ZB testing on Dresden Riesa... at 160 kph, I got down to like 40 kph before I could apply power and I had to slam the throttle at first not to fall lower... at 130 kph, I managed to recover but barely moving... at 120 kph I managed to recover once, using Brake release, but only train Jesus managed to keep the train moving at like 5 kph so while the Brake release button seems to do something, looks like it releases air, but the e-brake still works and thus I cant really recover... any other tips I could try ?
Most modern equipment (trains, airplanes, cars) usually follow dark cockpit principle. That means indication are only lit when it is a non-normal state and requires attention of the driver - so the driver is not distracted by indications during normal driving and doesn't have to spent mental capacity on distinguishing between desired and non-desired indications. So if there is anything lit it most likely requires your attention.
Audio is really bad for an Expert DLC. On PS5 I get the same audio problems that plagued this game for a long time. Between 90 and 110 km/h a broken record starts to spin on the main routes. When I tried the 101 (MFD version) on Kassel the broken record crack just always is present. I was under the impression these audio problems were fixed on PS5 but it doesn't seem to apply to the 101 Expert.
Awesome addon so far. I have found some issues on Steam: - I manually spawned a consist on Kassel - Würzburg and in LZB mode, at some point the "85" light goes on. I forced a Zwangsbremsung and after I came to a stop, the "85" and "70" lights are flashing which means that LZB and PZB are both active at the same time. - When driving with AFB enabled, I have the feeling that braking is too intense: AFB as well as the current speed are set to a higher speed, e.g. 140 and when I set the AFB lever to 110, the brakes are applied and the train slows down very fast. As soon as I approach my target speed, the brakes do not release and continue braking. After reaching 100 or even 90 km/h, the brakes are slowly released and I have to accelerate again to reach my target speed. I do not think that is how it should work?! The only thing that I do not really understand is why we cannot manually spawn a consist or single train in Cold and Dark mode. Why creating those fancy animations for starting up all the screens when we acually never do this because every time (except in the training modules) the trains are always started up and ready for departure? Without that possibility, it feels lot less "expert". But beside these few issues, I love the addon. Great work!
The blinking PZB indicators when LZB is active is a bug we know the cause of and are working on fixing. AFB will undershoot when braking, that is prototypical (I based that behaviour on recordings and data from the real BR 101) but how much it undershoots may depend on several factors (IRL and in-game). The first important factor is the ZDE data. AFB on the BR101 is older and less sophisticated than on something like the BR 193 (Vectron) or even the TRAXX locomotives. The biggest disadvantage it has is that it does not know the true mass of the train, but has to extrapolate it from the other data, and thus will never be perfectly accurate. Mass is very important as a parameter since AFB uses the current measured acceleration to control traction and braking. If for example you input incorrect ZDE data for the formation, AFB will perform worse. The second factor is that it takes some time to release the brakes on the train (also realistic) so even if the ZDE data is correct and it starts to release at maybe 10 km/h above the target speed both the brake cylinders in the coaches and the electric brake on the locomotive will take time to release fully, leading to an undershoot. It takes 15-20 seconds for brake cylinders to vent down from full service (full service is very rarely or never used by AFB, but to give you a sense) pressure to 0.4 bar and about the same time for the electric brake force to reduce from 150 kN to 0 kN on the locomotive, when in blended brake mode. The BR101 determines if blended braking is active when the control pipe brake cylinder (Cv) pressure is elevated. This is why you can see it often slowly reduce the electric brake effort and then at some point it will speed up (the Cv reduced below a threshold at that time so blended mode went inactive). As a data point, I have a recording where Vtarget (VSoll) is set to 120 km/h and AFB is braking the train down from 200 km/h, the speed settles nearly at 100 km/h Even with this undershoot behaviour (implying that AFB is somewhat more concerned about just reducing the speed to the Vtarget, rather than limiting undershoot) AFB should not be relied on to stop the train for a red signal in the normal 1000 meter pre-signalling distance. A rule of thumb used for AFB in real life is the following: If the reduction in speed is less than 20 km/h: assume the braking distance is 1000 meters. If the reduction in speed is greater than 20 km/h: braking distance is assumed to be (Vnow - Vtarget) * 20 + 800. Note that this rule of thumb is rough and more meant as a "maximum". Regarding the lack of cold and dark scenarios, I absolutely agree with this criticism. We want to correct that in the future Cold and dark presets in free roam is a bit more tricky and requires core changes to the game unfortunately, maybe this can be fixed as well, but I'm less sure of this.
Slight bug report: currently in a service on Dresden and my train has dumped all the air from the pipe with a flashing 1000Hz. However, there was no zwangsbremsung and no störung. The train is now stuck with 1000Hz flashing and no air in the pipe. I'm familiar with the recovery procedures for SIFA/zwangs... so this is very unusual.
cwf.green : Thank you for your quick and detailed explanations! I did not know that the AFB undershoots that much and if that is how it works in real life, I am completely fine with that. And I also assumed that the lack of cold and dark spawn possibilities is caused by the way the game core works. Would love to see that in the future if it is possible. That would be the icing on the cake. But again: I really love the addon! That is something I always wished for and I hope that more Expert Locos are released in the future. Have a great weekend!
The Windshield Heating switch does not work in the IC and MFD versions. Can't interact with the switch at all. Only works in the MFA version.
Sweaty palms scenario is broken, you can’t load passengers at traunstein and the objective doesn’t clear so you cannot complete it XSX
I’m in the ps5, in the 101 cab, these seems to be a horrible crack in the audio looping when the train is idle. I like to use headphones and it really destroys the immersion.
Propably not a bug just you dont have enough power in coaches - see this topic https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/br101-expert-for-those-with-door-issues.83452/#post-873672
I had the same (or a similar) problem yesterday. After quite some time testing various things I found the following: When I switched the brakes from "el" to "pn" (switch is behind driver seat in the 101) I was able to release the breaks again and continue. So maybe some issue with the el-brake? But I also had no störung and I didn't find anything about this in the manual, so I'm not actually sure what the issue was and if it was the correct solution. But it worked for me
OMG, I just finished a read though of the manual and my head is swimming. With all this information swimming around, guess I will begin the tutorials and hope.
Well, am trying the main tutorial which is setting up the cabs of the 101 and cab car. Got all the way through to the final step of the cab car setup, which is to press and hold the over charge button until the brake line is filled. I have held it for over 5 minutes and that prompt will not clear. Any thoughts???
Is that the step for the direct brake? I think it's a bug, i had to apply/release the train brake instead. It's a great DLC overall, but the tutorials leave quite a bit to be desired. The ZDE tutorial just has you press the ZDE send button but doesn't have you change/calculate any of the values or even really explain why you're doing it. Yes, it would be a bit lengthy, and complicated, but...this is an expert loco! And there's a tutorial module for how to cut-out SIFA, which i don't really understand the point of. I think it would be beneficial for DTG to have a dedicated dev JUST for the tutorials- the consistency/quality is all over the place, but that's getting a bit off topic
I agree with you on a detailed tutorial devoted to how to calculate the values, as well as going over the faults. For a non German speaker, its ruff to be looking through the manual to find the specific fault that has appeared and then figure out the instruction. As soon as I get a route ready to run it (don't ask), I will begin attempting to operate it in the wild.
First of all, thank you very much for this excellent add on, it does absolutely live up to my expectations! I have absolutely not spent enough time with this DLC, constantly on the move at the moment and not at home. Nevertheless, three topics I have not seen answered or reported anywhere: - I believe that the direct brake is not behaving prototypical. When changing cabs and not releasing the direct brake on the previously used cab you can not release from the new cab. You have to release in the previous cab. In the documentation available to me it says that the ZbrV is linked to the cab where direction control is activated. Is this not fully implemented (yet)? - which fuse is controlling the ZDE? I was under the impression that this is controlled by the PZB / LZB master circuit breaker? However, when I take this one out I can still programme ZDE and send off the data. Once I switch the breaker back on PZB is ready instantly. Is this prototypical? (I am not 100% sure under what circumstances I have tried this. I can’t recheck at the moment, but it did seem strange when I tried this) - Valve 29/3 on the Brake panel is open when you spawn in a train, however, on the „Druckluftgerüst“ overview on the wall it seems that this valve should be closed during normal ops. Can you explain what it should be? Thanks again. Really looking forward playing a bit more later next week…
The 29/3 red handle is a bypass same as the hb18, the hb18 is opened by the "battery on" and in case the magnetic valve is stuck you can bypass the air manually to open the reservoir. In tsw the bypass is active. Same goes for the 29/3, which is opened by the brake key. In case the valve is stuck you can bypass, thats the reason its closed usually. Yes i noticed the thing with the direct brake too. Also the selector schleppfahrt would provide battery power for the red lights. Here to say my documents are from 2004, not sure DB made changes in the configurations. This dlc is worth its full price and its just so much more fun and imersive. Same for me, its way above what i was expecting. I use the 101 for driving freight trains in freeroam, its an entire different experience with all the details / faults on expert level. Cant wait for more locos like this ! Maybe a 151?
Another issue: On Kassel-Würzburg under LZB guidance and AFB, I suddenly get a Zwangsbremsung and the 1000Hz indicator goes off and is blinking. I cannot switch it off using PZB frei or any other button. Also when I try to continue, the display says: "AFB Fahrschalterquittierung". I set all levers to 0 and try to switch the AFB off and on but to no avail. Without AFB, i also cannot continue driving. When switching the AFB back on, the "AFB, AFB, AFB" voice does not activate. Perhaps this has something to do with the PZB/LZB being simultaneously active on Kassel-Würzburg.
Anyone have any luck w8th the following fault: V=0 PNEU HBL Druck kleiner 7 bar The manual says if the main reservoir pressure is below 7 bar (which mine is) to Open Cutoff Valve 18 (Main Reservoir), but Cutoff Valve 18 isn't interactable for me even though it's painted red and marked on the poster.
1) With an active loco (panto up / HS on), your main compressor would pump the loco. 2) HB18 in TSW is active as Bypass, so no worry about this selector in the machine room If your loco is powered up, shows 16kv and the HS is on: 3) Close both driver brake valves with the key, (in case the brake pipe is empty and you try to fill it, the Reservoir will empty very very quick!) 4) Check if the Compressor LSS /MCB are out? Also it could be your compressor switch on the loco is set to off In case your loco is cold and dark (panto down / HS off): 5) Make sure your "Hilfsluftpresser" / Small compressor pumps the loco to a degree (4-7 bar) where you can raise the panto and activate the HS 6) Troubleshoot to acitave your main compressor as written above. 7) If nothing works, get a 2nd loco and set the this with the broken compressor to "schleppfahrt", the reservoirpipe will be feeded from the 2nd loco (There is still a chance your loco might be in emergency or schnellbremsung, and you just tried to fill the brakepipe which is open. In this case shut both drivers brake valves and wait until the Reservoir has pumped up to 10bar. After that you have to search the cause of the open brake pipe)
I am still testing the Sifa Zwangsbremsung behavior, tried everything, even checked an actual manual for 101, manuals for other games, guides... I even checked with some ppl and the train data I entered for the particular service (Dresden Riesa, first IC in the morning, around 5:30) WAS correct the usual Sifa Zwangsbremsung behavior is that if you come to your senses quick and you press the Sifa button, the brakes and traction lock release and while you still get a major reduction in speed, you should be able to recover the train... at 160 kph I barely managed to keep the train moving at around 40 kph, at 130 I managed like once or twice, barely moving, and below that I miraculously managed to keep the train moving at 5 kph ONCE I tried holding Brake release switch, but only thing that did was vent air brakes, e-brakes still bit hard, tried Quick release on train brake, to no avail correct me if I am wrong, but Sifa Zwangsbremsung, while serious thing, shouldnt be nearly as threatening az PZB Zwangsbremsung (that one means grinding to a halt) and you should be able to recover fairly easily most of the time, if you react quickly I also checked the "PNEU" thing (yellow ZSG/Pneu on the display) once in manual: Which... Sifa literally shouldnt bring the train to a stop IF you press the Sifa pedal quickly after getting Zwangsbremsung tried both with AFB active and without AFB, result was almost the same... couple other things I tried: - opening and closing MCB, to see if it does anything with the e-brake - one manual for 3D Zug mentioned that after pressing Sifa button and zeroing the throttle, one should try resetting the AFB as well... I followed the instructions from there, and while it seemed to be doing sth to the e-brake, it didnt help at all in the end I get Sifa Zwangsbremsung very rarely, usually when I am very sleepy, barely keeping my eyes open and lose focus momentarily, but I want to know that if it happens and I "wake up" quickly, that I can still recover the train... I wouldnt call this a bug, because my knowledge isnt as deep to determine this, but I still would call this Sifa behavior very strange... not to mention that there usually isnt any special procedure to release brakes quicker during a Sifa Zwangsbremsung that I am aware of, you just acknowledge as soon as you can, zero throttle and then reapply power... if there is a special procedure or sth I dont know, please enlighten me (not meant as sarcasm, I genuinely want to know, because I couldnt find this in ANY manual)
It appears that the ‘take the cab back’ is broken, I have no brake pressure, I’ve done everything it’s asked, and I have nothing, I’ve followed the manual and nothing
Appreciate the detailed reply! Thank you! I ended up starting another service, but if it happens again i know what to try.
My guess is to save performance and not model all of the redunant systems twice. Its not less realistic the way the systems behave, but its slightly different how they are set up in their basic setup. - HB18 separates the Luftpressor / Main Reservoirs from all the users (brake system, sander, etc) - Same with 29/3, its kind of a combined valve now, but the systems also here dont behave different, instead they didnt have to model the valve twice I guess only workshop personal would notice in terms of the function
That’s a nice representation of the system, which my documentation doesn’t show, unfortunately. Much appreciated to share this! Makes more sense now then it did before.
Maybe just to add to this, 29/3 is actually mentioned in the prep checklist „V1“ to be checked that it is closed. To my knowledge HB18 is not. Maybe it could be re evaluated if this could not be realistically represented in game, as it is part of an official checklist. Only a detail, I agree, but I would like it (very much)
I had the same problem, after a bit of searching, i went back into the other cab, put in reverser to forward, unlocked the brakes, then released all brakes, locked the brakes, put reverser to OFF, remove reverser and it magically worked
The devs did also a phenomenal job in the possibility of towing. In this example i tested the 101 empty of Rerservoir air, but actually feeding the Reservoir system over the "Schlepp valve", on top connected to a freight wagon. So no Reservoir pipe. (This Valve creates a cross feed through the brake pipe) As supposed, the Reservoir system was pumped to 5 bar and the brakes release. Since the BR218 has no Angleicher, i just let out a bit of air of the "101 Steuerventil until the brake cyl. had a pressure 0 at 5 bar brake pipe. Works all well and you can pump the 101 over the 218 on a freight consist. Schlepphahn open for pumping the 101 Reservoir pipe over the brakepipe (Selector in Schleppfahrt too, cab) The loco acts in a similar way as a freight wagon now: For the Angleichen use the Air release handle on the "Steuervalve", because with a 218 without "Overcharger" there is no other way to manually do this in the 101.
Here the Schematic for what happens when towing this way like in the pics above (Brake pipe to Reservoir Pipe): This type of setup is used when there is no compressor air on the towed loco + no available Reservoir pipe from the helping locomotive.
As the Schlepphahn was modelled I did expect this to work prototypical, however, as mentioned, simply don’t have the time at the moment. Not at home until probably Wednesday and have only spend about an hour with it so far Hence, reading very interested what people do with it and enjoying it „remote“ Just like your report!
Is it possible to lose a whole bogie without a Störung? Right now I have a yellow "DG" indication, and as it appeared, both HS and ZS flipped off. I was able to turn both back on, and I can continue driving, but I only have one bogie working. On the ASG page, both ASG3 and ASG4 were "Aus". I can set one of them to "Ein", but if I try to turn on the other, then the original goes back to Aus. I have no Störung at all, and didn't get a "Störung, störung!" when DG appeared. Is this a normal situation, or another bug?
Hi Guys - great addon - thanks for all the hard work. No major problems here so far (and reading all the comments from the experts in this thread has been very illuminating), but I have one question (if this sounds stupid, pls forgive me as I am NO expert). In the cab car. should the display (highlighted in the screeen-shot) not show the current level that the "tap" or throttle is applied at, as in other locos, or does the driver not need to see this info? Thanks again.
Overall this is a great loco addon for TSW. I've only played the 101 so far, but it's clear that it's better than any other train in the game. I am enjoying the expert aspects of the DLC and the learning process. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more expert locos in the future. I have a couple of issues however: 1. The duplicate timetable for Nahverkehr Dresden has weird timings for the passenger stops, with the timing being displayed in increments of seconds. 2. Sometimes when passing the expert 101 in the expert 101 the audio of the passing train is way louder than usual and seems to take too long to disappear. This sound also disappears when changing to the outside camera and changing back inside. 3. I would have liked more setup time for both duplicate timetables, but I guess this can be fixed by spawning on foot before the service starts depending on when the train arrives at the station. Platform: PC, Steam.
This is by far the best addon I have ever bought for TSW. The level of immersion is outstanding and the need to have the manual at your finger tips increases my respect for RL train drivers even more. I've now had two runs next to some tutorials and I'm very enthusiastic about what I have experienced: - My first run was a Kassel to Würzburg IC service. After leaving Fulda I've had a traction motor blowing out simultaneously with the Ebula screen going black and some LZB action requiring my immediate attention. Maybe I caused this myself by putting too much stress on the motors in an effort to make up for some delay? The instant stress of having to prioritise multiple issues at the same time, handling all of them and still trying to keep on schedule with only three traction motors up to Würzburg Hbf (with reduced acceleration) was really nice. I had the chaos factor set to 1 (realistic). I'm also looking forward to improve my eco driving techniques to minimise power consumption in the future. - The second run was an IC cab car run from Rosenheim to Salzburg. No faults this time, but just a lot of immersion trying to keep up with the schedule after a delayed departure. After an uneventful run, I forgot to switch GSM-R to Austria at the border. A little further the network went down, I had to look down on the panel and only barely realised that I almost missed an active 1000Hz magnet for an unexpected danger signal. I thought I was quite a proficient TSW driver in Germany/Austria after five years of driving trains, but now I realise that I still have a lot or practice to do. Thank you very much for this humbling experience, TSG!
What to me this great dlc has brought to the fore is the inability to pause the game while still have the current image displayed on the screen. Using the esc button on my pc to pause of course puts you into the menu, now you can't see the German being displayed for whatever is happening. I really do not know if this is even possible and up until now, not really needed in the game. Also, has any of the YouTube posters put out a detailed "how to"?
Thats only works with a loco that support "tapping" but the 101 is not a loco with this function so its turned off.... The 218 will have this future but its not working at the moment and will fixed in one of the upcoming updates
