If you want my opinion as someone who plays Maintalbahn often, I really don't think it's quite as bad as what some seem to think, at least from a gameplay perspective. For a single-track branch-line, apart from up to decent 120km/h speed limits, the route has an incredibly rich timetable (if you own all the relevant DLC, of course i.e. 628, 612, 363 and soon the 218/dosto all complementing the 642, plus not forgetting the extra AI traffic at Aschaffenburg etc). So, with decent variety as well as a mix of fast/slow stopping patterns, there's plenty of decent gameplay and is a completely different single-track branch-line experience compared with the already fantastic Niddertalbahn.

Just my opinion, but I enjoy Maintalbahn because of this - plus who doesn't not like some good DMUs! :)

But the only one of those routes it will feature on is not updated. That is my biggest complaint. I don't see how I will pick up this loco and enjoy the route experience. It's just marvel at the loco, do 2 stations and get bored because you have driven this route already a few times like it looks now. I understand that it did not fit into their plans but I probably would have paid double the price with a smile if the route was updated.

I like it very much Niedertalbahn, I wanted more so i bought Maintalbahn… which is not the same level of quality. However I play a lot to it. Only big problem is playing in winter when the scenery with the brown trees is horrible. But it is a nice branch route, 642 is nice and you can use too the 628 and the 612.

Now with the 218 there as well. I foreseen I will do many many Kms there,

Maik Goltz does the Br218 also work with the upcomming IC Steuerwagen? I heard in a Doku, that they can push an IC train, which has up to 6-8 Wagons because otherwise it would have trouble to heat the wagons

    For a small edition why...
The 218 has ZWS so it works.

As regards sounds, well I fired up the 218 on TSC Kiel to Lubeck last night and in all honesty thought the preview of the TSW one sounds much better. Just sounded like a generic roar, no subtle undertones and not helped by being unable to open cab doors or windows. Though external sounds not much better. Cab fairly dead too, not much interaction with switches and PZB not working, which seemed odd as normally on by default in TSC.

So making me look forward to the TSW version that little bit more.

The sound is superb for sure. But be fair a 218 with missing the right sound is a bizar fail. I think you can only produce such loco with the need of real sound. Thats the selling point. But yeah they go beyond this expectations i think.

I would say that a good 218 DLC stands or falls with the sound. Especially with the 218. ;)

This is the route I liked the least in Train Simulator. For me, one of the worst ever. *We instead want Hamburg-Hannover, Bremen-Munster and Leipzig-Berlin.

    *We who love important routes.

Only run part of it in TSC but seemed to be a fairly flat line, the odd curve here and there largely running through an avenue of trees. Obereruhrtalbahn would be a much better choice IMHO.

Everything is fine so far , but I don't like the monotonous turbo sound when the train heating is switched on pretty mediocre, especially because it always whistles at the same speed (standing, idling, etc.). But I don’t know if that’s always the case in reality.

    With train heating

    Without train heating

Which is absolutely realistic. I would have to check which one it is, but the engine switches into a higher notch as soon as you switch on the heating.

I have to say I like it! Have not seen the whole video, though... Still not a fan of the TOD3 lighting, will have to get used to it again, I guess:|

Yes, that's probably the case. According to comments, the locomotive runs directly or constantly at speed level 7 when the heating is switched on, so that explains it. In my case, the passengers would unfortunately have to freeze (of course only in the game). :D

Just watched TinTin_57 s preview and thought it looked and sounded pretty good. Quite excited to try it myself.

Looking good. Lucky people getting a preview copy! Like the guy in the second video exclaiming, “Wunderbar!” Several times.

Its not the situation that by longer trains only the rear loco has the zugheizung active and the lead loco didnt? I mean the rear loco is in reality there to power the coaches

You can have that if you want, but need to be set up manually. When the train spawns active and has coaches attached with the HEP cable connected, the train heating on the 218 switches on automatically (only for player trains, not for AI). You can simply use the two heating switches to configure what loco should do the heating then (notice: only works from the 1st loco when coupled together directly, not in a push-pull formation as the HEP signal cable is not connected then). Left switch selects which loco should to the heating, right switch makes it happen.

Just had a quick drive with the Zusi 3 218 and, while it is very nice, think the forthcoming TSW version sounds much better. Though the Zusi one has a very nice brake rub effect as you slow down.

Yeah the 218 for TSW is supurb in sound quality! In the UE is that more possible to create good soundsets and in Zusi is that more a simplified way to add sounds. And thats not to create a discussion to say A is better or B is better!

It hasn't been released here yet, so I'm not "missing" anything. There was talk about other routes having layers/subs on them but only the Lubeck and Maintalbahn are listed in the press release. Just commenting that there's a disconnect between the two information sources.
