The suspension settings are vehicle dependent and it works on HBK too. It's just the rail joint gaps that are different on that older route and they are route/track layout dependent of course. I personally like it more as it is on HBK as the others are way to much.

Are there no trophys for this DLC? Or will they get added later?

There are no trophies for single loco DLCs. Only the in-game rewards for using something or driving a specific distance.

It is a shame Hamburg Lubeck was used as the main route for this amazingly modelled loco. There is a section of track on Hamburg Lubeck with a big kink in the track with a 130kph speed limit that would literally throw the driver from his seat it's that bad. It's so immersion breaking and disappointing these sorts of track errors persist in older routes.

We just have to hope a better route is in the works. then again, we thought that about the Class 700 and nothing happened... :(

When would it be appropriate to use low gear is fast only for passenger coaches?

The slow gear gives you 200kN max starting TE (falls down fast to 80kN at 50kph) and a speed of 100kph at max.
The fast gear gives 160kN starting TE (again falls down to 80kN at 50kph) and a top speed of 140kph.

The used gear depends on the trains weight and the speed you want to go. Heavy freight uses slow gear of course. But lighter freight can use the fast gear. Passenger always use fast gear (maybe except on steep routes with slow speeds).

Think low gear is intended for heavy freight, though coming out of Chemnitz earlier with 12 IC coaches on, I was eyeing it as my speed dropped to 44km/h on the 2% incline. However full credit, the old girl made it in high gear but anything over 600 tonnes trailing with a >2% incline I might be inclined to choose low.

Edit: Maik you beat me to it!

Is there a way to turn the heat off? I looked and couldn’t find it.

Edit: Found it! I guess I should’ve run the tutorial first …. Doh!

Loving this loco! It is amazing and I’m hard pressed to think of one I like better right now.

The loco is fantastic as expected, well worth the purchase!

But jeez H-L is even worse than i remember. Ran a service at noon to keep the shadows to a minimum but inside the cab is so dark you can't really see all the wonderful details. It's just disappointing.

FYI there are quite a few 218 freight and a couple passenger services on Dresden-Riesa- honestly not sure what DLC is required but the 218 just looks so much better in TOD4.

I urge DTG to prioritize TOD4 and help their 3rd-parties implement it as well.

So now I've been listening to the stream from yesterday kind of like a podcast for the past 2 hours now.

While it was quite nice to hear Harry and Matt talking about all sorts of funny things, However, I think you forgot to answer any of our questions raised in this thread in the stream.

A bit unfortunate, I was very interested to hear Matt's response to some of those.

Also Lukas wasn't in the stream (as stated previously) to give some insights about the BR 218.

So my question, will you answer them delayed at least?

He couldn't even give any insights because he was not involved in the creation at all.
And you other question about the future of the 218 and possible routes for it are just have no answers yet. At least nothing we can talk about. There are some plans for something.

Just thought I would revisit this after buying Maintalbahn earlier today.

You may think it strange to hear me say this, but yes I am actually quite enjoying Maintalbahn. Well at least with the 218… It’s a bit of a bus service but thrashing the loco across the single line, trying to keep time, through scenery that doesn’t look too bad (admittedly it started to rain), pretty darn good fun. Enjoying it more than the Goblin Line. It’s no BPO or Niddertalbahn but maybe its reputation wasn’t quite as deserved as it might seem.

Having briefly tried the DMU in the Test Track scenario I can see where there are concerns about performance and sound which DTG or whoever built the train should be addressing, but now we have the 218 substitution, unless you are going after Journey mode the 642 can be left alone.

I don’t remember what platform you are on, somehow I seem to remember it’s a PC, though. In this case I would really encourage you to try both of the community timetables for NID. Even though it’s only 60kph, it’s really a lot of fun!

I actually have to admit i enjoy the Maintalbahn a lot more with the BR 218 then with any other train.

Maintalbahn cannot be played in winter due to the brown trees. In other seasons is not bad. 642 is nice. And layers of 628 and 218 are not so common. So at the end I play a lot. And more now with the 218, of course.

    Hi,
Without manual, I don't really understand the meaning of the indicator lights:

    20240629055506_1.jpg

On a timetable scenario, I have the last indicator always illuminated:
    20240629174907_1.jpg

Wende - u. Stufenschalstörung : ? Turning and step switching fault
    Getriebe - Störung : Gearbox - Fault
Motor - Störung : Engine fault
    Sifa
Heizung : Heating motor ? or Cab ?
    Schleuderschutz : Anti-skid protection
    Vmax = 40 km/h
    Vmax = 130 km/h
    Bremse wirksam : Brake effective
    Hohe Abbemsung : High braking

The upper row from left to right:
    1. reverser and throttle fault
    2. transmission fault (it's on when the transmission is being filled or drained, it's your way of knowing when it's safe to notch up and when you're in idle/neutral again)
    3. engine fault
    4. SIFA
    5. train heating (heating is a historical term - it actually refers to electricity for the coaches, so think AC, lights, etc. It's on if the heating is switched on)
The lower row from left to right:
    1. Wheelslip protection
    2. maximum permitted speed 40km/h (some fault indicator, not sure for what right now)
    3. maximum permitted speed 130km/h (some fault indicator, not sure for what right now)
    4. hydraulic (dynamic) brake applied
    5. High braking (to counteract the properties of traditional brake pads, the loco will use much higher brake pressure in the brake cylinders above a certain speed. If that activation speed is surpassed, the light comes on and goes off again when the deactivation speed is passed while slowing down.)

Hey folks! We've put together answers for some of our most commonly asked questions regarding the 218 below:

    Q&A Questions Thread:

Question: Why HBK was left in TOD3 and DTG opted not to upgrade?

Answer: No plans to upgrade HBK, we won’t necessarily always be upgrading every route that receives a DLC.

Question: Will the 218 be incorporated into the timetable of future DEU route releases?

Answer: No plans from Dovetail, not aware of any plans from the developer.

Question: Why was Maintalbahn chosen as the secondary route?

Answer: We wanted a second choice for players.

Question: Will there be a new route for the 218 in the future?

Answer: Certainly looking at options for future projects but nothing to discuss.

Question: Does the Class 218 have properly simulated fuel consumption? Where are the fuel level gauges found - on the tank or in the cab?

Answer: Yes, is simulated and the loco can be refueled. The gauges are on the tanks outside, but they are not working in game.

Question: Will it be able to connect the automatic coupler of an ICE train?

    Answer: No emergency coupler.

Question: Are you about to get more Diesel routes in the game, where the BR 218 could be used (for passenger and/or freight services)?

Answer: We don’t have anything to share.

    Question:
Will there ever be a modern/updated timetable for Niddertalbahn where the BR 218 could be used for services (without timetable mods done by the community)?

    Answer: No plans.

Question: Can you also use other locomotives for the 463?

Answer: Only works with diesels, so only the 218 at this time. In reality it can work with the BR212 but not much else.

Question: Is this because of the costumers are more interested in electrified routes? Is Diesel about to go the same way Steam did, because it doesn't sell as equal?

Answer: Diesel does very well. It’s historic content that is less appealing, not diesel content. Still want to do lots of diesels.
