The Delaware-Lackawanna (DL) Railroad is an 88 mile long shortline that runs from Scranton, PA and serves a number of industries in the area. The shortline began operation in the early 1990s. The shortline uses former Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western (DL&W) and Delaware & Hudson (D&H) trackage. The line begins in Scranton, PA, where Steamtown and the Electric City Trolley Museum are located. Steamtown and the Trolley Museum operate excursions on parts of the DL trackage. Cool stuff about the DL RR and why it should be added to TSW: 1.) Freight operations: including Ardent Mills Grain Mill and the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant that makes artillery shells (pretty cool!) 2.) Some excursion passenger trains; also including Steamtown and the trolley museum too 3.) Engine Shops 3.) The coolest thing about the DL RR is the locomotive roster (as the title says, this is a modern-day route with vintage locomotives). Almost all of the locomotives on the DL roster are rebuilt diesels from the American Locomotive Company (Alco) and their Canadian subsidiary, Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW). Wait! What?! Yep! You read that right: Alco and MLW diesel locomotives! Many of the DL's motive power are over 70 years old! And they are operational! The DL even has a few special-liveried locos. We'll get to that in a bit.
