I tend to avoid discord unless using it specifically for a multi-player game, which is its original purpose. It's not conducive to a longer discussion or posting things in depth. Since this isn't a multi-player game requiring real-time chat I have no use for it for this game. I can see how they want to use it though since it's "what all the kids are using these days." They seem to be fairly responsive to the forum (so far) so fingers crossed they'll be able to keep both going.
There are probably people playing this game that don't use anything that DTG use to communicate, whether that be YouTube, Discord, these forums etc.
The figures show that game sales on PC has been on the rise and above console sales for the last 10 years. But now console sales are on the rise and slightly higher than the PC last year and probably this year. Although you can't go by these figures to work out how many tsw players there are any platform. Only dtg can answer that one. What's it bloody matter anyway.
Exec Producer of the game on last month's roadmap: skewed much more towards console now, steam hasn't shrunk, its still growing, but there's an awful lot of PlayStation players out there.
The vast majority in fact. As is the case for most games and especially the case when the player base trends, cough, cough, slightly older. I didn't use the forums for ages playing this game, other than to very occasionally try and find an answer to a bug or glitch I encountered.
I didn't join here until TSW3 if I remember right (might have been TSW2), and even then that was only because I came across an issue with the game. I coped perfectly fine without even these forums until then. So it's possible to survive without Discord as well, even if DTG use that. Come to think of it, I don't really watch their live streams either. So really I only privy to what is shared on the forums.
I don't like Discord. I don't like its layout and how it encourages "hot takes" rather than informed discussion. I won't be using it. Even if the forum should go.
I would argue it’s just a more real time version of the forums. It can be difficult to find what you need here because there can be several threads created that discuss the same topic with plenty veering off into uninformed discussion. It just seems more coordinated because it’s in a thread vs creating a new “comment” on discord (which is essentially the same thing).
