also looking forward to MBTA Commuter, even though it will come in a few months yet - we will get "Baby Bullet" loco, but with ATC/ACSES probably, which is a good thing

Ok we all knew TSW 5 was coming. Sad yet so predictable with this company. I have no idea why the heck DTG decided to make everyone wait if we all knew this would come out. I am looking forward to MBTA Commuter. But this is such a lazy attempt to put the San Bernardino line with TSW 5. MBTA Commuter would have been a better route choice rather than have DTG say it was releasing in a few month rather than be clear and say it was being bundled with yet another carbon copy of the game. But before yall say oh I am being too critical or not giving credit where it is due because yall have a nasty habit on these forums to do that.

I am excited for the conductor mode. I am not saying "guard" because I am a proud American and we don't say that here. Although this mode should have been added to TSW 4 as a FREE update. Yet another game that we must pay for no reason. Thank the Good Lord that TSW 5 (Shameful DTG absolutely unacceptable) will be coming to Game Pass here on Xbox. Because I aint paying one cent for this game.

Yes I agree the routes packaged all together provides good value for money atleast for the launch. That is not to say that the routes are very outstanding. I'd say the TSW 2 routes were very outstanding and still to this day hold up as strong compared to what we have now. Look I love the Metra routes. As a person who has been to California and stayed there I have seen these trains and they are awesome. But we essentially had the same route last year with TSW 4. Don't even get me started on the broken promises of suspension that was promised in TSW 4. DTG is basically lying to our faces in efforts for money. Sure they are a business, they need to make money. But they have fallen so far down. Might as well call TSW "Pay Sim World" or "Yearly Pay Sim World" This scummy practice of rereleasing the same game every year is such a bad move, but it's so predictable from DTG at this point.

Also where is multiplayer!!! We were promised this since TSW 2. Why has it taken them 4 years and counting for this... oh wait it's DTG full of lies and broken promises. We need multiplayer, multiplayer will elevate this game. But it will take a million years for that to happen so don't get your hopes up.

Atleast we are getting the free starter pack anything free i'll take but for what is being offered the only real selling point is the conductor mode and potentially the map 2.0 THAT'S IT. Even less incentives than last year but still the conductor mode is a welcomed edition.

The game isn't designed for multiplayer, it would need to be rebuilt for that.

It was maybe possible back in the days of TSW2, but now it isn't.

Multiplayer was never promised, what are you talking about? It’s also not something the game is designed for.

The question is also, do we really need multiplayer?

Of course, it could be fun to play side by side with friends, but TSW isn't really designed for that idea. For example, in Bus Simulator, you have a career mode, which makes more sense. In TSW, on the other hand, you only drive from A to B or collect tickets. This is just my opinion, and maybe there are some good reasons why multiplayer makes sense, but for me, it wouldn't be a feature I would use.

Yeah, what are you going to do in TSW? Pass by a player, turn on your lights and that's it? I can see guard mode being something adequate, but not all services in game use guards (S-bahn for example).

Being a dispatcher was brought up, but then DTG would need to rework AI trains to obey a human dispatcher's signals, which I prefer not happening after that whole AI red signal problem.

I think at some point in the dim and distant, Matt may have said something along the lines of: "multiplayer is something we'd very much like to do, but there are no plans as yet" and that was taken by some as a 'promise'. Which is one reason DTG are now so much more guarded when talking about possible future developments.

No. I've bought bundles before already containing a route and it just says you own it and doesn't affect the install

Of course DTG have made much firmer promises that they've then broken, such as with steam...

Just like how suspension physics was never promised, yet we waited a full year for it and it was a selling point for TSW 4. I remember hearing Matt say years ago back in the TSW 2020 or TSW 1 era that multiplayer was a feature that would come to TSW and that TSW 2 had the architecture to build multiplayer. Back then DTG was still not a great company but they atleast were not milking TSW yet or making broken promises as much yet. That was the golden era, the TSW 2020-TSW 2 era. Now this era while we are getting new routes which I am a fan of, it's full of overpriced stuff/low bar stuff (Especially U.S routes and trains) and cash grabs of the same game sold year after. The same scummy tactic they did with TS Classic.

As an American we deserve better, San Bernadino is just a carbon copy with two trains we had in the game already. The MP36 is a loco that was a addon for Peninsula Corridor. Still one of the best U.S routes to date behind Boston-Providence and LIRR 2.0 and Metro North.

Don't get me wrong I love these trains with diesels pure American power and it offers difference from the boring push stick forward electric EMUs we have in the game. But MBTA Worcester would have been a better choice to bundle into TSW 5 not that we needed a TSW 5 anyways. This game has divided this community so much it's so different from what it was years ago. Hence why my departure will be soon because man this place is just so one-sided and toxic. But I digress. TSW is not exempt from criticism and I will continue to be critical of this game and not be a fanboy haha.

    In case you missed it:
    • You don't have to buy TSW5. Just get the free upgrade.
    • When MBTA Worcester comes out, you can buy that as a separate DLC, and play it with the TSW5 upgrade you got for free.
The free upgrade is exactly what the players have been shouting for when TSW3 launched, and then when TSW4 launched. Everyone and their granny were clamoring over the "paywall" something or other. "Why should we pay for the fixes that were promised?", "I don't want to buy TSW4, but I want to play [insert random] DLC that is coming up soon..."
Now it's here: free TSW5 core, so you can still download your old content (maybe get some free upgrades along the way), and later buy any upcoming DLC you want. You no longer have to pay for the bundled routes if you don't want them.

Yes, if it works the same as last time it will ask if you want to create a new or import an old profile. You need to be logged in to Dovetail Live and on the same machine for it to work but is pretty straightforward.
