I’ve been thinking about something that’s been creeping into the game over the past few releases — duplicated locomotive entries in the trains menu. This isn’t about different variants of the same loco, like the various Class 66s. That’s a separate issue which has been explained in the past. What I’m referring to is when the exact same locomotive appears multiple times in the menu as separate entries. It’s a bit odd, and I’m curious if anyone else has noticed this or finds it frustrating.

    For example:
    • The Class 377/2 and 377/4 each have separate entries, even though previously, subclasses like these were grouped together.
    • The DB Class 628 is split into two entries, even though the only difference is the livery (Mint Green vs. Red).
    • The DB Class 185.2 has had this issue for a while now—since Train Sim World 4 released, the Salzburg-Rosenheim and now Ludwigsbahn versions of the 185.2 are lumped in with the Railpool 185.6 instead of the other 185.2s.
    • And I just noticed that after a recent update, the Rotem Cab Car now has two separate entries, whereas before both versions (Antelope Valley and San Bernardino) were combined into one.

I remember submitting a bug report about this a while back (for the 185.2), and it did get fixed, but now the issue seems to be spreading rather than improving. It feels like the game struggles with UI/menu consistency over time, which is a bit of a shame because little things like this can make the experience feel unpolished.

I get that in the grand scheme of things, this isn’t the most urgent problem compared to performance or lighting issues, but I’m wondering, does this kind of thing bother anyone else? Or am I just overly fixated on menu organization?

You're not alone in finding this frustrating, and I totally understand your point of view. Small inconsistencies in the UI, like duplicate locomotive entries, can impact the overall experience, especially when you're aiming for a neat and well-organized interface.

Having subclasses of the same train separate makes sense.

I don’t disagree with you, but in the past they’ve tended to be grouped together. All I really want is some consistency.

There's also some mess with the BR 406 ICE3 sometimes appearing twice...

Consistency is needed, but really they should've been grouped from the start.

If they'd put subclasses together from the start, consistency wouldn't be an issue. Not a dealbreaker though, obviously its just the way it's worked out over time.

To further specify what I meant, the BR 406 ICE 3 from Koln Aachen appears duplicate in the trains menu, but both versions are actually the same. Furthermore both only allow you to play them in hamburg lubeck from that menu.

I have submitted at least this problem right now as a support ticket, though.

P:S: I have also opened another ticket for the fact that the BR 182 MRCE has a weird duplicate entry that is only playable in a single service on a single map.

I think the issue that you’re describing is slightly different from what I’ve described in my original post, though it is a similar issue. I have also noticed the issue that you’re describing happen with other locos. For instance, the same thing happens with the red 628, the exact same train shows up 3 times in the side selection menu, just as you’ve described. Same thing with the 111 on Salzburg-Rosenheim. And again, just in a recent update, although I think it’s fixed now, there were about 9 versions of the F125 available to choose, and still one of these exactly similar versions remains available only for selection in the Weekend timetable on the San Bernardino line.

To me, it’s really unclear if this specific issue that you’re describing is a bug, or if it’s intended to be that way. If it is intended to be that way, then the locos need to be labeled to signify why they’re different. Because as far as I can tell, they seem to run the same timetabled services, and the locos themselves have no differences.

On the other hand, I believe that the issue I described in my original post is just some issue with sorting of locos gone wrong.
