    This route is for when DTG are ready for steam simulation

    1941-42

    Length: approximately 59.25 miles (95.3 km), making it roughly the same length as the sand patch grade route and within the upper limit of practical route length.

    Description: The route comprises the first part of the Edinburgh to Aberdeen mainline featuring Edinburgh Waverley to Dundee Central during the early 1940s. The route features the famous LNER P2 class steam locomotives and has some incredible scenery including traveling along the famous Forth Bridge and Tay Bridge. The route also includes Edinburgh Haymarket depot as well as Dundee Tay Bridge depot.

    Locomotives:

    LNER Class P2 2-8-2

    Six of these were introduced between 1934 and 1936 and were among the largest steam locomotives to run in the UK. The first two, 2001 and 2002 were unstreamlined however the remaining four 2003-2006 were built with A4 style streamlining. Two engines were allocated to Edinburgh Haymarket depot, two at Dundee Tay Bridge depot and the remaining two Aberdeen Ferryhill depot. Used for express passenger services between Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

    LNER Class V2 2-6-2
    184 of these mixed traffic locomotives were introduced between 1936 and 1944 and were allocated to both passenger and freight duties along the route. Depots all along the Edinburgh to Aberdeen mainline possessed a varying number of these during the period.

    LNER Class O4 2-8-0
    These were designed in 1911 for Great Central Railway (GCR) by John G Robinson for freight duties. A few of these were allocated to both Dundee Tay Bridge and Aberdeen Ferryhill depots along the route.
