Yes it is too short and you can enjoy your hobbies and be grown up when its required. I have lost a friend this year who was 45, he was a few years younger than me and it really makes you realise that you should enjoy your lift for yourself and for now and not for others (apart from loved ones of course I guess).

Not saying it’s wrong to complain or question it. I’ve done it myself in the past. In the context of my post I was answering those suggesting they make a complete new game for Thomas and pointing out this would likely take even more resource away.

I do think it’s very likely that DTG outsourced Thomas and it’s unlikely a vehicle artist and scenario writer would be working on bug fixes, but as you say, only DTG knows.

I personally think it was a mistake to make any announcements at all when console players are still getting crashes in the TSW5 core routes, but that’s a different thread.

That's a really tired old cliche. I assure you I'm not childlike in any way, although I keep having to remind my wife that driving virtual trains is an adult behavior.

I cringed when I watched that " Fireside Chat ". Couldn't finish it.

I do admit to the wrinkles though. :D

They do have TSW Tycoon on Roblox so I don't get why people are acting like DTG making a new game would be difficult when there is already a game that is popular with kids available anyway. Putting Thomas in that game would not be difficult

So who is this aimed at exactly? Kids? Are kids gonna pay about 40 quid for a starter pack and a Thomas the tank engine unit?

It doesn’t work, simply because it was set in a model universe with a certain style, not a semi realistic one. And it was stories about an engine with dialogue. You get none of that in tsw.

Seems utterly pointless and a bit kitsch.

The kids aren't going to pay for it, they'll get their parents to.

Kids are the audience, but it'll also appeal to those looking for nostalgia.

There's also an entire adult fandom (seriously) dedicated to everything Thomas. No doubt they'll catch wind of this and want a slice of the pie.

Neither of those is a ‘Sim’ type game and neither were written by DTG they just publish them.

Mattel would not be working with anyone making TTTE for Roblox I would suggest. There's countless games there which use the T&F or TTTE brands falsely so I doubt they'll have any interest in it, and TSW Tycoon isn't exactly high-quality, is it.

TSW is probably the most notable Train Sim at the moment so it's definitely the place to go, and it has a fair audience of kids, rail enthusiasts and nostalgia merchants alike, so it'll do fine in the main game and doesn't need to go to Roblox.

If this is supposed to appeal to kids, then putting this on Roblox would make a lot of sense.

I'm pretty sure that there are more kid players on Roblox than TSW. Train Sim Tycoon was never meant to be a high quality simulator

I don´t believe so.... kids have a million other things to play. My mates 7 year old son was playing Roblox on his tablet yesterday and I told him Train Sim World is coming to Roblox and he did not care. The idea of my mate going on the playstation store to buy TSW with West Sommerset and Thomas for his little boy is totally outlandish. The only group of people who might be doing something like this are dads, who have been playing Train Sim World anyways.

DTG´s target group has always been adult men and teenage train geeks, who can´t be bothered with or afford a model railway. If they are moving away from that target group, they will run into big problems.

So using your own heavily flawed logic against you, you must know every single kid on earth playing Roblox, and they all weren't interested in playing TSW, did you tell all of them personally, basically your point was totally countered with logical fact and now you're trying to desperately validate your point with a single child you know.......

  14. Its even worse when you remember that buy the time this add-on is out, the free starter pack will have finished, so that will be £30 for the cheapest edition, £20 for West Somerset Railway, and another probably £10-15 for this thomas pack. Seriously, you are targetting a game that is going to cost 5 year olds, or more likely, their parents, £60 for a few hours gameplay with no replayablity whatsoever. This addon would have worked best if:
    1. It was not a hyped up pack for 3 weeks.
    2. It had the Island of Sodor instead of being on West Somerset Railway
    3. It was its own game using the TSW Engine.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't there a great british railway journey pack or something for Train Simulator Classic that is its own game but based on the TSC Game and DLCs?

It was a weird product. It was just TSC but with a different menu screen and, I think, no ability to download additional DLC.

The good thing about it was that if you already owned TSC, the routes were also unlocked in TSC.

I bought a key off CDKeys for about £3 never installed it but got all the routes included really cheap, so it was a decent bundle. The web page is still live https://live.dovetailgames.com/live/gbrj-game

Do those who think DTG are making a huge mistake and predicting armageddon for TSW, not think that DTG will have weighed up the pro's and con's of introducing Thomas to TSW? I am sure they wouldn't be doing it if they thought it was going to have a detrimental affect on the sim or its customer base. We have had this sort of conversation going back to UKTS and the early Rail Simulator days, DTG or RSDL before them make a decision, several forum members don't like it and predict the end of the train simulator universe. And here we are 16 years later having similar conversations.

I get the disappointment, I was disappointed although I was expecting the big reveal to not be something that interesting. I would have been pleasantly surprised if it was. However I don't think DTG/Focus are exactly amateurs despite some of their questionable decisions at times. Personally I feel this is probably a good move and isn't going to change anything for the worse in the long term it might end up be advantageous to TSW. I also doubt Mattel would have got involved in train sims if they thought it wouldn't work out.

I might be wrong and there might be much hand wringing over the failure of Thomas in the next few months but I seriously doubt it.

TSW Tycoon for Roblox was made by people that make DLC for Roblox and not Dovetail, But DTG Marketed it. As per a new game just dedicated to Thomas and frreinds its all down to was was and wasnt alolowed in the liscence from Mattel. So if Mattel said not to a stand alone Thomas game it means no, Not yeah but and maybe.... just a plain old NO end of!

  19. So could something like that be made for this Thomas DLC, and maybe any other kid focused DLCs that will no doubt come out in the future? I find it hard to believe that a 5 year old, or more likely their parents, are going to spend £30 on the game, £20 on WSR, and probably £10-15 on this DLC for a few hours of gameplay.

I don’t see the point in a separate game. But they’ll probably do some sort of a Thomas bundle for around £35 or whatever single country pack prices are currently.

As for parents spending that amount of money. Having seen the amount people spend on toys for Christmas that will likely be abandoned by the new year. I think if DTG price it reasonably people will still buy it. If Dad has an interest in trains it gives an additional justification if the kids can play as well. Plus even the best DLC end up cheaper in a sale eventually.

I have no idea, but I suspect it will do ok.

I just don’t understand the title of this thread (or the other). How can you ‘demand’ a retailer to stop doing what they are doing. The thread sounds like over reach of a group of individuals who feel entitled to something they are not entitled to. DTG have the right to produce and sell whatever products they want. As consumers we have the right to purchase or not. End of comment.

That's flawed logic based on a single child, doesn't really validate your argument.

This might be valid in a marketplace with numerous, roughly equal suppliers. But with DTG being, at least currently, the major producer in town, players naturally feel more invested in its development.

Being a monopoly it is just as justified. The forum is owned by the supplier. It can and should be used for positive criticism and feedback. Some of the comments in this thread are overreach. The vendor is at liberty to sell whatever they like. There is a lot of work and content going into these products. If you don’t like the product or direction then simply don’t purchase. There are and will be potential purchasers who will want this product. If you feel you can provide a better product then as you say expand that free market and show us what you can develop.

Bit of a weird mindset that only positive criticism should be allowed here. Most of us here are paying customers, and while yes, we are not entitled to any product, we are entitled to an opinion. All this thread is for is to voice dismay over the way DTG is heading, nothing is 'demanded'. That, I think, is a perfectly fine reason to start a thread. If anything I read the title of this and the other Enough is Enough thread in the way of people personally being done with the game and boycotting it, not demanding DTG to do only what they want. After all, there is no pleasing everyone, ever.

Boycott is such a strong term. I see people's hopes potentially dashed here. Creating these DLCs take time and there is only a limited resource available at DTG to make them. I suspect Charles Dickens would recommend reading his novel 'Great Expectations'. Enjoy what is available. New DLC will come with time.

Gaming, and by extension TSW isn't the toy market, there isn't a like for like comparison you can make there. Devs even take issue with comparisons to things like TSC, which is infinitely more comparable than the toy market. There's a lot different expectations between what you get from a toy for $40, versus what you get from a game for $40.

Yes, but in the end, isn't it the same question : "$40... is it worth it ?"

with the addition of several of the AP enhancements one could suggest TSC is less toy like and a more 'Classical' simulator with graphics which are now comparable to TSW. (Some of the 3rd party routes using Christrains and AP are works of art). Routes are longer, larger range of locos and rolling stock and less peripheral simulations (walking, conductor, treasure hunt etc). TSW has become a simulation tool for all types of train simulation opportunities (e.g. Roblox and virtual). Both are good products. Both are now taking very different paths.

...No? I'm not asking the question, I'm just stating a plain fact, you can't compare physical goods to digital ones. Furthermore you could make TSW seem rather poor value comparing it to other games, the Spyro & Crash games are both $40 each on sale, and go down to around $15 each during one. Am I saying that's fair? No. But then neither is the toy comparison, at the end of the day DTG's business model is a weird abnormality, and it's very hard to make comparisons to other things due to it.

You made a conscious decision to purchase them. Just like you'll presumably make the conscious decision to not purchase this one. Not any different when you actually think about it.

You can choose not to compare, but I will continue to do so. My relatives will make a list of presents they want. Some include video games and toys. I’ll take the budget I have and amongst other things consider what playtime they might get from either. I know some of my relatives have short attention spans for toys, but they will spend a lot longer playing a video game and vice versa. So in the context of buying a gift, which is what I mentioned in my post. Totally comparable.

I suspect regards release they'll bundle this with WSR and the free starter pack for a knock-down price on the store front, like what they did with Count of Monster Disco.

guess maybe tsw5 is a mess, DTG was behind closed doors negotiating the thomas and friends deal ..instead of making sure TSW 5 and its launch flagship content was of quality out of the gate ,even with all the updates stuff not fixed etc...all the money they will make on Thomas probably will go into shareholders pockets and not into making TSW a better simulator .,thats how things really work in the corporate world ..the customer is not important just lining the shareholders investors pockets and running it all into the ground..

"Dad, when I grow up, I want to be a train driver!"
"That's great, son, but don’t play TSW to inspire you—apparently, it might upset the 'Enough is Enough' brigade. Here, play Roblox instead, because they’ve decided all kids only play that based on knowing one single child."

If MS Flight Simulator 2020/24 in combination with VATSIM and IVAO can be used to help give aspiring and working pilots experience, then why should TSW be limited to hobbyists who "can't be bothered with or afford a model railway"? TSW could be a great platform for aspiring train drivers. Thomas and Friends can be used as a way to gain interest from younger audiences, rather than blindly dismiss them, who can then look at other routes to get an idea of how trains operate in RL.

TSW can show aspiring drivers to adhere to speed limits, timetables, safety protocols like AWS and ETCS and signals. Whilst TSW isn't really the full-blown rail experience, it is as good as it gets on a consumer level. Perhaps one day, DTG could even expand on that.

MSFS is chasing a different market completely i.e. realism! I mean, DTG cannot even implement neutral sections in the game so in my opinion its not a valid comparison!

Funnily enough it's the literal reason (there are others as well but I didn't fully realise until I played TSW) I'm where I am now and what gave me the ambition to drive trains.

I would like to work in the rail industry one day soon and eventually drive trains. TSC and TSW has played a role in that since it has given me an idea of what it can be like. Of course, reality will be different, but its the best there is for now.

To be honest, I'm only really where I am now because I was bored of the same 9-5 office job every day.

But dare say, if it wasn't for TSW, or Thomas, or my interest in trains, I wouldn't be there today. Granted I'm not at the driving bit yet, but I'm one step closer.

TSW TYCOON on ROBLOX is utterly awful and there are multiple other train games that are MUCH better. I’m not a Thomas fan as I’m a grown adult who doesn’t fine talking trains appealing, but can imagine it might briefly appeal to kids before they get bored!

Dude, if you're going to do a boycott, least do it properly, look up the definition of boycott, if you can't even stand by your own warped ideals and do the proper meaning of a boycott, nobody is ever going to follow you as your just proving yourself to be an angry hypocrite......

I'm not one to die on a hill defending DTG, far from it, but I have genuinely never seen something so pathetic in my entire life.

Seeing that TSW customers put up with charged update/patches for years and still tolerate awful stuttering and performance issues that would kill off most games, it is unlikely that train characters from a series of children's books are going to lead to your wished for boycott.

Perhaps DTG could include a scenario that may make you feel better. Imagine Thomas sitting sadly in a siding and you at the controls of a Class 66 tasked with towing him to a breakers yard to be cut up and scrapped!

Throw in some fun adventures along the way. In a desperate attempt to stop the demise of Thomas there is a track invasion by Shaun the sheep and various characters from the Magic Roundabout blocking your path. You need to summon the police to clear the way and get to control PC Plod when he arrives and attempts to herd the intruders off the line.

Later, as you approach the points for the branch off towards the scrap yard you then find another sabotage attempt in the form of Wallace and Gromit having super glued them selves to the track. You are then faced with a fiendishly complex long puzzle side mission to find a way to prise them free. You are also given the option to lose 50% of your action points and save time by just rolling over them.

Finally arriving at your destination you uncouple Thomas and take control of a man with an oxy-acetylene torch who then cuts him up into small pieces. At the end of the scenario you can bask in the glory of having gotten rid of the pesky toy train and content in the knowledge that what was left of him will soon be recycled into something useful like sauce pans, woks and cutlery.

Not too sure what Mattel would think of this but who cares?
