The problem is I'm on Xbox and there are no video quality options / mods. So what they present is what you get. I thankfully got to try TSW4 on a free weekend promotion they had a couple of months back. Took me less than an hour to try the 3 standard routes looking for something good. Easy uninstall. The core game is just too terrible to enjoy.

I have no doubts that the 1/2 Bernina Line will sell well because of flashy marketing and its own iconic fame. Something even I myself would have picked up for TSW2, but with such a pig of a core game, it will remain in the column of lost revenue for Rivet.

Thank you for the sympathy kind sir :D
TSW2 runs nicely though so no complaints there except for the stuff that used to work, but are now unplayable due to DTG patching incompetence. Here's hoping they can outsource the core game to a competent team and make a comeback with TSW5.

There’s not much I can do about the lighting being on PS5 and just have to select the date and weather to make each route the best looking I can. Both the old lighting and the new have their issues but I much prefer the newer skies. The Bernina stream showed how much fog there is even with the fog slider at zero, as that feature only adds to the fog that is already there and can never get to zero fog, and that ‘always there’ fog doesn’t help with the washed out look but adds to it.

This is just sad, why is this only being picked up now? Surely this is something that should have been known, and sorted before release?

Couldn't a keyboard just he plugged in though? That's what we had to do for the Class 20.

It would have been if anyone bothered to playtest the route properly. But we very well know that pre-release testing is not a thing in TSW.

Guys, I'm very thankful to all of you. I had about 3 weeks distance to TSW after the thing which they called "core update" for the winter and seeing that the new roadmap stream was only a DTG party to themselves with new announcements.

I stumbled across the Stream yesterday evening and thought "WTF? This is so clinical again! And the assets, overused" etc. etc. you mentioned it here. Guys, I'm just happy that you have the same thoughts I had yesterday. And my predicition is: If DTG (and 3rd parties) continue like this, they will get a problem.

Hmm.. could be a good marketing angle for TSW5: "Where YOU are the beta tester!" :D

It is all good, I was just letting you know I saw in the stream.

Ummm paying them to be or not to be a beta tester, that is Q...

Well, we've pretty much been a "pay them to be a beta tester" since TSW's inception. Very much an Early Access title without the official tag. Sadly there are actual Early Access titles out there with far better performance / fewer bugs than TSW.

Not to forget that other games in the best case leave early access one shiny day in their life. TSW only get's the next paywall update instead of leaving early access.

Well, I can't say no to that, seeing the $$ I have spent, So the answer to that Q is, YES paying to be a beta tester.

Interesting conversation with my developer sibling yesterday. He'd been looking at snippets of code from the software behind the post office scandal, and he said it looked amateur: 8 lines for something that should have been done in 1, for example. Anyhow, he mentioned how every bit of code they write is checked by at least one other senior programmer – and that's on top of the fact the programmers playtest their builds all day long as they go. And when they find their or someone else's bit of code has interacted and broken something else it wasn't supposed to, they get onto fixing immediately. Or trying to. The only bugs that usually end up in release builds are ones they couldn't resolve in the window given, but they're already working on patches.

Obviously it isn't always as neat as that; some things can slip the net.

The answer is to postpone the release. The executives need to understand that customer satisfaction is more valuable than shareholder satisfaction.

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the best games of the last decade, but it will never get the recognition it deserves because it was released in an unfinished state. The same thing is going on here.

If you’re going to make us mad, then make us mad about the delay. Don’t make us mad about the quality.

That would be the good thing to do and probably the winning strategy on the long term. But instead they keep hiding behind the "it's a niche market" excuse and will continue to do so until the end. If the franchise ever flops due to their failing strategies, they will still blame it on the "niche market" rather than admitting that they did not do good enough to attract enough sales.

Hear Hear, Hip Hip Hoora :)
Half-Life2 Took 5 yes FIVE years to complete and release. with around 80-100 people working on it, it was not perfect but for the part it is very good, what had me kind of like what no hands, and yet the steering wheel moved :)

A side note to a post I made earlier about YT post's
Another reply to a YT post of mine, not sure who it's a reply to:
-That may be true. But if it is, then judge after your purchase and after the release, not before it. I know that Rivet is like this and this probably won‘t get fixed, but don‘t judge now.
----My Reply: What I suggest is many more game developers and yes as well as we the gamers do take a bit of advice from those who came before, I never knew or heard of "Timothy Cain - Stop Making Excuses - Game Development Caution" I watched a few of his videos if we the gamers that spend the money on their products don't push back a little to get them to make a better product, who will. Are we to keep buying subpar products? And I appreciate the honest and respectful and civil conversation.

It's probably too late to postpone the release since it's set in stone in advance

I have all parts of the route as also the workshop item subscribed that is joining them, however not currently installed (only 15 GB of free space at this moment). I can check in the weekend.

No, no release date is ever " set in stone ". Parts of Rush Hour, West Cornwall, even TSW itself have been postponed close to the original release date..

I never got Cyberpunk 2077, but that is something that more game devs should put in their games. Now that I think about it didn't one of the Assassin's Creed games do that, when first starting the game, I have one on my XB 1X.

I suspect it involves a very cynical business decision. In the case of 60%Bernina they already know how many pre orders have come in and can extrapolate from that how many Day One/Week One sales they are likely to get. Allowing for refunds so long as they are confident projected revenue will meet or exceed expectations, they really don’t give a cuss about the state or quality of the finished projects. Release and be damned! Fixes will get kicked down the road or stonewalled as we have seen with Rivet in the past, until in 12 or 18 months time it comes to be regarded as “former” product, albeit still on sale at full price like the dire Vapid Transit…

I keep playing TSW4 but I have pretty much stopped buying DLC. Waiting to see what the Goblin line is like. But I keep my TSW2 base install, just in case we need to retreat to the bunker so to speak, when something awful happens.

As a note, while I haven't tried if it works (and whether the doors open), in TSC there's modeled turntable behind the closed doors in the building over the tracks. I'll probably check it in editor some time later.

Yes I notice a lot less flickering/shimmering of overhead lines, fences, and distant scenery in TSW2 vs TSW4 (using TAA and the same engine.ini settings).

Let's face facts here...we throw money at them, they throw (you know what) at us. As long as people continue to throw that money (I'm afraid I'm that stupid I will continue to do that as well albeit on sales only) there won't be a change in this vicious cycle. More money, more ***.

Yes, Class 104 and freight pack is also what I'll be only looking forward to from the upcoming new releases, as it's for the route I already got in TSW3. Once I upgrade to TSW4 to enjoy the updated WSR, it will be probably the only DLC purchase for a long time (maybe even until release of Union Workshop's route).

Hadn't played on SoS for a few months, and had forgotten the blue screen problems with services starting or ending at Crewe.

I played the scenario "worst winter of all" it was going well until I got 300 yards from finishing the the run in the sidings at Crewe. Then the blue screen "an error has occurred" and the game crashed;)

A BSoD is something to do with your PC setup. I run to and from Crewe on SoS all the time and have never had any kind of hard crash like that.

As it's happening in roughly the same place, it's likely to be file or hard drive sector corruption (TSW will be streaming data). You may have to try reinstalling the SOS DLC and hope it resolves the issue. If not, it could mean formatting or getting a new drive.

Other causes of blue screen on a PS4, other than drive issues, are known to be related to faulty USB devices/cables or faulty controllers, and power supply issues. But they seem unlikely if it happens on that one DLC in the same place.

Thanks for the info Hare. :)

SoS came as a bundle with TSW 3 , does that mean re-installing TSW 3 ?

I had no idea the PS4 even had a BSOD until mine went to sleep with TSW2 running and bluescreened on awakening. This happened two times out of two, so I never let the system sleep again while TSW2 was open. (Then I upgraded to the Steam version.)

Not able to test your issue, but I do know from experience that DTG found a way to software-bluescreen the PS4, so it may not be a hardware problem for you.

Yeah for some reason happens on the routes starting or ending at Crewe. Maybe it prefers the Southern region.

IIRC you can´t manage TSW addons individually on PS4. You'll have to uninstall the complete sim environment and reinstall step by step, DLC by DLC. I'd install the core game followed by SoS. Then test, see what happens and add the next DLC.

    Hi Pipe

As the SoS was part of the TSW 3 version I bought, I'm not sure I can uninstall the SoS individually.

I've just tried the same scenario again without getting a blue screen. Most of the SoS runs ok, but the blue screen can appear at random.

Why did you censor out the i lol. It's not like it's forbidden or anything. I'll not buy it until they add a full 24hr timetable, an actual save system not checkpoints, better tutorials (when I last played, there were no tutorials for the new content) and an actual control notification that tsw has so I'm not having to manually hover the mouse to know what position the brake is in

Hahah, because I thought it was amusing! Aware it’s not banned.
It’s technically early access so maybe it will release with the features you want? Hopefully!
