It’s pretty much a 50-50 split for pre-1994 (64 votes) and post-1994 (67 votes). Trains of the last 25 years or so as popular as all the trains before that.

I had a hard time deciding which BR blue option to choose, so I would have liked that to have been a single option. So if you clump both BR blue options together (40 votes) that gets almost as many votes as ultra modern (43) and I think that shows how popular BR blue is, and how much people want the latest tech too. Most of the people who were around when steam was a thing are dead now so they couldn’t vote, so not surprising that got a low vote here.

Very small sample size but the results are pretty much how I would expect, with BR blue and the most up to date trains coming out on top.

I think steam attracts all ages, obviously the preponderance of heritage railways helps. In TS1 a lot of the steam engine developers are younger, certainly they wouldn't have been around and the end of steam as they seem to be younger than me and I certainly don't remember steam!

Also at model railway exhibitions I notice a lot of young people running steam period routes so I don't think it is necessarily an age thing so much.

I would just hope that in five years time we can look back and see a variety of periods represented, I accept most routes will probably from the recent period but I hope not to heavy a balance towards it, as per TS1.

Whoa there Stujoy. Last I checked I'm still around. I rode my share of kettles and have fond memories of them. The sights, sounds and smells are never forgotten. Bring them on.:D

    lol.
The last steam-hauled service trains on the standard gauge mainline of the British Railways network ran in August 1968 so that makes anyone over 53 either in their box or waiting patiently for the imminent arrival of the reaper.

I love steam trains in person... they look incredible and deserving of the name Iron Horse. For train simulators, I prefer to drive modern locomotives. I do like the BR-101/105 etc. as well. I hated the 101 at first because I did not understand the gear shifting. Once I learned about that, I found it to be a fun train to drive and it has become one of my favorites of all.
