Hi all, I'm thinking of moving to a wide screen monitor in place of the standard. Something like a Wide Quad HD 3440 x 1440p. What experience can you share about such displays (good and bad). I think my rig has enough capacity to take it:- Processor AMD Ryzen 7 9700X 8-Core Processor (3.80 GHz) Installed RAM 32.0 GB (30.9 GB usable) Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 (12 GB)
I have an Alienware AW3423DWF 34‑inch OLED monitor, and playing TSW on it is a completely different experience for sure. It looks amazing with the wider field of view. If you have the money to spend, it’s an absolute masterpiece to play on an ultrawide monitor. And you're system specs are perfect to play with a larger monitor.
I can only really share good experiences. I have a Dell S3422DWG 3440x1440 curved display and I don't know how I'd live without it. For work and play its an essential part of my setup. Widescreen for me is a must for cab driving, being able to view the whole control desk without panning left and right. I run TSC, TSW6 and F1 25 (Formula 1) on it, not to mention programming and work with Excel etc.. The visual experience and increase in my productivity makes the monitor worth every penny. I got my Dell about 4 years ago which cost me about £400. I have a self-build PC which has a Ryzen 9 12-core processor with a 16GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super and 32GB RAM - graphics settings in the games above are set to 'Ultra'. I get at least 30fps in all of them. If I was forced to find something bad about it, it's a bit heavy (but not too much). Here's a screenshot in the cab of a class 66 to give you a flavour:
I have a budget ultrawide MSI mag401qr 40 inches. Now I don't understand how to play any games on these narrow standard 16:9 monitors. It's like you've been robbed of a piece of screen compared to your 21:9. At first it will seem unusually difficult, your eyes will run wild, but this will pass in just a couple of days.
