played two services yesterday, must say I enjoy the extension and addition of "third" pathing option I even reached 98 mph on an early morning service btw do any of the services feature more than a single set of 170s? I like running longer trains
I noticed this too… it was snowing at the time, so thought little of it, but TBH I haven’t played the route enough to know if it’s a general problem whatever the weather.
I certainly wouldnt start at notch 7, as you run into the risk of wheelslip... I would try 3 or 4 to get moving and then gradually increase as wheels take hold
The route has vastly improved the scenery is much better i really like the Leven branch obviously there's still a few issues which hopefully they will sort the route feels empty but hopefully when the 158 comes it will be better
Thank you - this worked. I suspect as you say wheel slip. It is in snow as well, but setting to notch 3 then releasing allowed the train to move forward.
some locos/trains can take full throttle, but even then mostly in dry conditions... e.g. with German locos, I start with like 10 kN (like 10 - 20 % throttle), then once it starts moving and gets to like 5 kph, I take it up to like 20 - 30 kN, and once it gets past platform, I put it to 50 kN and increase throttle to max gradually with 170 I usually start with notch 2-3, maybe 4 if the gradient goes up, and then either by one or two notches until I get to 7 (usually around 25 - 30 mph)
I don't know the island (GB) well, but I personally think that announcements that aren't 100% accurate and maybe deviate slightly from the original are still much, much better than no announcements at all. What else I noticed: - The airport is now much busier. Maybe not quite like the original, but definitely much better than before. - The vegetation is now great throughout, I like it. - The rock formations are unfortunately still poor, the same rocks keep repeating themselves (copy paste). - The depot in Edinburgh is also a bit busier, so much better than before. It's good that the DLC has now been significantly upgraded, but it's a shame that this only happened after the massive criticism and not right at the start.
I’m thinking about finally picking this up after all these months considering there’s a huge PlayStation sale right now and the route is cheaper than ever before. Back at release, I also told myself I’d buy the route once the Leven branch is added as I followed the real-life construction/opening process closely. It does seem like there are a few remaining issues, but they’re mostly signal- or speedboard-related (which doesn’t really affect me because I don’t drive HUD-less). Would you say there are any other big issues seriously impacting the gameplay, or is the route worth it for about 22€ if you’re interested in the area, train and landscape? I’d also be interested in same before/after comparisons of the improved route scenery! Doesn’t even have to be footage, would just be nice if someone with lots of time on the route could explain what has changed.
If you are on pc, we can hope Faux updates and reissues the tt he had done. It includes drivable 801 and hst in ScotRail.
The route is a lot better, the scenery improved although there are still the odd rather bare patches. The area around Leven and Cameron Bridge are nicely done. The 170 is too quiet with the window closed, I can't believe they are that quiet. There are barely any run sounds or point work sounds. I am sure it was never that quiet before but maybe I am misremembering. There does not appear to be a junction signal approaching the Leven branch, unless I completely missed it and there is no AWS magnet, or not a working one after the first signal out of Cameron Bridge towards Leven. The stop marker/lozenge at Leven is far too far up the platform, it looks ridiculous. The timetable is better but a bit too quiet still, but that will hopefully be improved when the class 158 is added to it. Overall it is now a very decent route but there are some issues still.
Some feedback regarding the Class 170: It's nice to see dynamic PIS inside the train, but it looks nothing like real life as the text is too small and in the incorrect place. As someone who enjoys riding the Turbostars, I've picked up on this straight away and doesn't look clear to read. The unit numbers are also still incorrect as they should be 170425-170434 and 170450-170452 for the 2003-2005 variant. It would be nice to also have an option for the PIS to say 'Turbostar Class 170' just like real life. Just sharing my constructive thoughts and feedback as I'm personally a little disappointed by the PIS in this update. Even the Class 158 got it close enough.
Rivet's latest update on FCL is really nice. But there still some annoying bugs/imperfections to fix (I'm on PC Steam). I bought it yesterday, on sale. So I can say now, after playing a few services (vanilla, without mods): - The landscape is now definitely nice to look at, with much more details and objects, even at medium distance. - Improved some textures (like the brown spots in the grass, catwalks etc...). - Leven Branch is very good, only two AWS magnets are missing (also a wrong speed limit sign). The terminal stopping point is so wrong (Irl, convoys stop near the red buffers). - The airport still quite ugly and bare, but I notice an improvement. - Improved details in the old ED-GL section, with much less foliage that "masked" a lack of care. - I can't stand Haymarket station, it's the worst on this route! Too empty and bad detailed. - 170 sounds still buggy, with a terrible mid-transition and small flaws. However, there seem to have been some improvements here too (like speed up! I finally managed to touch 100mph!). Overall, I rate the work done GOOD (yes Rivet, you were good this time!). There's still a little room for further improvements (Mods?)! Waiting for the new 158 timetable... I'd say that Fife Circle, as it's now provided, deserves a nice 7/10!
I also like that there is variety even between services that go the same route... like I did one service around 9 am and then one around 5 am, and the 5 am or so had this nice stretch that felt almost like intercity cos I was skipping stations and thats how I was able to get to 98 mph before I had to brake for station also, speaking of magnets or sth, right after getting onto the branch there is AWS magnet I think which doesnt do anything (even green ones give slight beep), but the one after it works
Just to add to my comments earlier, as the Class 170 PIS looks like in real life: Example video in operation from a Northern service (not my video):
PLATFORM: Xbox Series X P.I.S inside the train is too small and too far up. Having it at a more realistic and balanced, fit to screen size would be better but it's certainly a big improvement. Stop Markers at Leven are too far away from Buffers Gaurd mode does not work on foot P.I.S in cab display console destination does not match what is being presented on the train. Stopping times at intermediate stations can be ridiculously long. For example: My turnaround time at Leven was 5 minutes but when I got to Inverkiething I was stopped there for 12 minutes. LONG TERM BUG: In the audio announcements there is no 'And' before the final destination is announced when going through calling points. For example: "This train will call at Edinburgh Gateway, Haymarket, Edinburgh Waverley" when it should be "This train calls at Edinburgh Gateway, Haymarket and Edinburgh Waverley." LONG TERM BUG/ISSUE: Announcement Jingle is not even close to irl on the 170's. Can we at least have the same notes or nothing at all. It seems at a sorry attempt at one and tbh I think it's better without for now. When Leven is being announced in the announcements it announces it as "Leven Station" when it should just be "Leven". (If this is actually accurate to real life please let me know.) At Cameron Bridge there is no physical stop markers. Class 158 timetable was not released with Leven Branch. POTENTIAL CORE ISSUE: When new extension update was first loaded TSW would not show all my addons. This is not just fife circle but other addons such as Glossop Line and Cathcart circle and loads more wouldn't show up and routes that weren't installed (Cajon Pass) was showing up for some reason and had the option for me to walk around on foot. Also the class 33 had the WIP (black and red stripes) image showing up when I owned it. After restarting the game 5 times and restarting my Xbox 8 times it finally went back to normal. DTG & Rivet Games, Please have a look at the bugs listed above. I hope you are able to fix some of them soon. Thank you. From Nathan.
Northern 170s don't say 'Turbostar 170' on the PIS. They modelled the ScotRail 170 off a Northern one (judging by what I saw a while ago), which is probably why it doesn't do it in TSW.
I'm not talking about Northern specifically as this would apply on all 170's, the video from Northern was before they were replaced with TrainFX. The image I took however was on a ScotRail service. The ScotRail ones do show "Turbostar Class 170" when a destination is not set or when a unit starts up.
Dunno if anyone has said this yet but when starting at leven the train is spawned quite close to the end of the platform. I believe it should spawn closer to the buffers. As far as I can see, there are no stop markers at Cameron bridge. I think there should be a morpeth board before joining the mainline from the levenmouth branch. It goes from 45 down to 25 for the points.
I said they used a Northern 170 for reference (specifically 170455), and as Northern 170s do not show "Turbostar 170", the ones in TSW won't either. If its prototypical to ScotRail 170s, then yes they should change it.
Apparently new assets were added onto Edinburgh Airport but when I drove past it earlier on it looked the same ???. Does anyone notice anything different that I’ve missed ???
It's blank when one isn't set. Think that may be a wee Easter egg ScotRail included on their system, similar to the class 385's "chillin' "
I bought a route, but in the list of trains I only have class 170?? And where is the Flying Scotsman, RHTT, and Class 37? Have you warmed me up?! P.S. The route is not bad, but clearly worse in quality than from other developers
What platform you on? I can use the Flying Scotsman on Xbox. No RHTT or Class 37 though (I don't think these were ever part of the route anyway, could be wrong).
I've noticed a difference the scenery is much better than it was yes there's still some issues but hopefully they can be resolved
ah, here we go again, demeaning modern machines, as if that made the older ones better ... you forgot to add "plastic" to it
Other 170's do it too, except for Northern which replaced the original screens with TrainFX and Chiltern's Class 168's which were customised to say "Welcome to the Chiltern Clubman". Be nice to have as an option though in game on the PIS system as well as the blank. I do have good knowledge of the Turbostars with them being my favourite train type.
Yeah, not sure what it is for Xbox or PC so I could only go with PlayStation. But I assume it's the equivalent of the brake button for them as well.
It's been over a year since I last travelled on a XC 170 but I think they had Turbostar class 170 as well, I know they did during Central Trains days
Just brought the route in the sale for the ps5,was playing in timetable mode and I couldn't see the 158 ,I've brought that as well, but the funny thing is there's playable scenarios for it , otherwise it don't show up ,or am I missing something???
Skyhook haven’t released the update for the 158 yet. I assume it will follow shortly now that Leven has been added.
I've noticed the broken signal on the approach to Waverley still isn't fixed. That's been there since day one. And is anyone else getting trams without any textures?
