This is the master feedback thread for the LNER Class A3 60103 Flying Scotsman Steam Loco Add-On. The thread will be unlocked for feedback when Early Access for TSW 4 begins.
The AWS horn and bell are incredibly quiet on Xbox S, the ‘B’ button doesn’t cancel the AWS, (even more annoying), and the sunflower is constantly showing even if the bell sounds and running on a clear aspect
This has been an issue on the Jubilee and 8F as well, but on console it's really annoying how you have to scroll through 4 different cameras before you can go to the left head-out view. Since the cab window in the Scotsman is very small, that view is used quite often and therefore it would be great if the it would go to the left window view first.
We'll be going through these threads tomorrow to pick up stuff you've fed back. Just wanted to share something we already know is fixed.
Scotsman looks great. Like really good. I like the slightly over the top shine and vibrant colour, probably the most real looking loco to date. It really stands out in the washed out wishy washy world. Great attention to detail with the subtle fade of the reflection to give a more matte dirt effect to the top of the loco. I'm not sold on the sound so much. Think it sounds great up to 25mph but then things get a bit weird. Most of the way from 25mph to 45mph just seems to be a slow monotonous chuff chuff pause that would feel more at home for slow good loco slogging up a hill. Some weird discontinuities from 45 to 60 but then it seems to sound better from 60mph updards. Driving is mixed, feels like leaving the reverser at 50% with 100% regulator shouldn't work all the way up to 75mph. Quite similar to the 4f in the way you can just ignore the boiler pressure. Lack of shovelling feels like a lazy step backwards, hope this gets added. I did have companion on the footplate at one point who seemed to have found a fetching pair of purple overalls, despite looking fabulous, it was a bit weird. Oh and nearly forgot, finally a loco with sensible eye/head position. Really helps the immersion to be able to see the gauges in the cab and then feel like you are ducking out of the cab window. Nice to be able to lean out far enough to make it a useful view, plus seeing the valve gear doing it's stuff is a lovely bonus. Really makes it obvious how wrong the 8f & Jubilee are.
Pc player (steam) with a controller. Aws is too quiet. B button doesn’t acknowledge from controller (q button on keyboard is bound and works) - but I shouldn’t have to reach for keyboard just to acknowledge aws…
I must admit the step back with the firing animation is a downer for me and that just needs to be sorted. I'd also echo that similar to the 4F it sounds great.... Below 30mph. Its a shame about the support coach but you can kind of understand why they did it. Otherwise the model looks great. I was lucky enough to get onto the footplate and sit in the drivers seat recently after a rather messy cleaning turn and its nice to see that the tender tunnel is added. I spent a while trying to shepherd people through it for their footplate viewings and it is definitely a bit of a squeeze so the crouching is definitely accurate.
A lot of PS5 trophy descriptions are incorrect, alongside the Platinum referring to TSW3 instead of 4 I was puzzled as to how I earned the 100mph trophy for Flying Scotsman when what I actually did was the tutorial, but now see both the Centenary and Record Breaker trophies have the same 100mph description when presumably Centenary should refer to the tutorial. The Making History trophy says to complete Scenario A rather than it's name. Also the trophy group says Group 0, it's nestled in between Group 01 and Group 03 so should probably say Group 02.
I'm playing on Series S and one of the Scotsman's Achievements is mistitled. The Text says (German Name) "FSCT: Geschichte schreiben Schließen sie das Szenario "Neuer alter Rekord" auf dem Flying Scotsman ab" but there is no scenario called that. I'm sure the first Scenario (German Name) " Neu aufnehmen" is meant. That would fit the Scenario Description.
On the PlayStation 5, when I unisolate the AWS and the alarm sounds, circle does not cancel the alarm, it doesn’t nothing. I have to manually pull the aws handle.
When does the Scotsman Services takes place ? Would love to do a run as a passenger but i couldn't find the train at the station when it should be there. Is there a certain day or week when this AI Service drives?
I think the engine is extremely well modelled, however the Brunswick Green looks too bright, especially in sunshine. When I showed it to my father (who grew up trainspotting at Grantham in the late 1950s), he thought it was supposed to be the LNER apple green livery it was so bright.
I remember on the stream they said the Flying Scotsman runs different services on different months, otherwise it would meet itself, hopefully they’ll publish a list somewhere but in the meantime it might be worth selecting a different month to see if it shows up.
According to DTG, on their first recording trip they were on a heritage RW which is limited to 30 mph, so the only live running sounds they got were up to that speed. However, then they wrangled a second sound survey on the main line, and took it up to 60. So all the running sounds up to 60 ought to be legit. Over 60, they had to be processed from what they had.
Nice so far but in the first proper scenario in Journey mode, the one with Emily Turner doing the commentary, it's a bit annoying to have the HUD disappearing when she keeps woffling on!
There was one at Peterborough when I spawned at the station on foot about 10:00am, not sure what the service name or number was though.
Scotsman's training center module. If you are going to put a level on for a platinum medal it should be achievable based on the content of the scenario. Runs are consistently resulting in scores in the 1930 to 1950 range.
I agree with the other comments, this is indeed a beautifully modelled locomotive, it’s appearance is very nice indeed! However, the sound package is quite poor, especially as already mentioned when travelling a higher speeds it becomes unrealistic and synthetic! Furthermore in the sounds department, I feel the locomotive whistle needs some work, it is exactly the same shrill sound no matter what key or controller button is pressed! An animated fireman really needs to be added to bring this locomotive up to the standard we expect from the latest version of TSW. The driving position is very good indeed and gives a good view along the boiler at the line ahead, so well done on that. The footplate doors on either side of the cab aren’t very realistic looking when closed together, they don’t meet and give the appearance of being about an inch thick, then when the door locking bar closes over the other door, it disappears inside the door itself A question, is there a facility to place headboards on the top lamp bracket? Other than that, it’s got to be easily the best steam locomotive in TSW so far! So, well done DTG team; please don’t be very long in implementing the fixes! ChessieT
I think the team have made a good loco, but one thing I can not understand is why no tail lamps on the air braked stock or the option to place them is this an over sight? or other players seeing this as well?
Thank you for the feedback. On the audio - I believe there are improvements to higher-speed sounds coming in (didn't make the launch build), a little later down the line.
A couple of further observations having driven a bit further... Where is the option to fit a high intensity headlamp or portable headlamp on the front of the loco? The standard classification lights do not comply with regulations for running on the modern rail network. Seems almost impossible to run out of steam. Giving it the beans from Peterborough up towards Stoke Summit, both dampers at 25%, 100% regulator - at 30% cutoff pressure is holding at 195 PSI doing a steady 50 MPH up to the summit. If I pull back to 25% cutoff, the boiler is maxing out and the safetys are constantling blowing. Steam generation vs usage seems rather too generous. Edit: And another one. The consist for "The Fact Controller" does not have a brake vehicle. Come on, how was this missed when the scenario was created let alone during testing.
Can't answer all of them - but for this one - keep clicking the lamp - one of the options is a high intensity lamp (black surround)
In the introduction for the Flying Scotsman it is impossible for me to achieve the platinum medal, I always end up 50 points short.
As an aside, I know the sounds are waiting a bit of an overhaul but I actually have to say I found the faster running sounds quite acceptable. Better than the three LMS locos which do get jumbled and muffled above about 30 MPH. Actually reminds me of that Australian loco, 3801 is it, when I watched a YT clip of it climbing between Illawarra and Moss Vale.
I think so too. Tackled the record run scenario with Scotsman yesterday since I’m staying away from the Azuma until the AWS sound is fixed and quite enjoyed the soundscape.
On my first run I believe I may have run out of steam going up a hill. I couldn’t move. Maybe I missed an AWS? Don’t remember what service- I was just excited to jump in and get going. Anyway I played around with some of the knobs and applied full power and rocketed off the tracks. Totally my fault tbh. Wish I’d saved a video as I haven’t been able to replicate it since, and now that I’ve done the tutorial for a steam refresher, it seems I know what I’m doing again.
I feel the whistle is too quite and needs to be louder on the real loco i believe there is 2 whisltes one for the main line and one for heritage lines and i feel the one in the sim is too quite to be the mainline whistle it needs to be louder. Can not really hear it.
I've seen it mentioned that the AWS sounds are too quiet, and the sunflower doesn't spin to black upon a clear signal - but I've also noticed that the brakes don't apply if you don't cancel a AWS horn.
DTG JD couple of bits of feedback on Scotsman: Pc, steam, tsw4 1. I can’t hear any brake application or release sounds. Should be steam brake exhaust on release, air brake application and release and vacuum application IMG_4200 by matthewanthonygray posted Sep 25, 2023 at 9:46 PM IMG_4199 by matthewanthonygray posted Sep 25, 2023 at 9:46 PM 2. The Scotsman name board in logos on livery designer which I assume is meant to fit on the splasher name plates is not the correct shape or size, it’s impossible to get it to fit the name plate correctly no matter how I skew/change aspect ratio/scale it
On the PlayStation 5, when I unisolate the AWS and the alarm sounds, circle does not cancel the alarm, it dose nothing , On all the routes, I hope this is fixed soon as you can't use AWS at all
There is no camera angle for the fireman side of the cab but two for the right hand side 'head out' positions, so I'm unable to read the boiler pressure gauge, This makes using the minimal HUD difficult
On the PlayStation 5 , when playing Timetable the speed on the hud will not go past 75 mph , I gone past speed markers for 100 , 120 so on But the red dot on the hud stops at 75 it will go down but not up past 75 , Why ? All so just gone on to play 1712 London to kings Cross to York Part 1at Retford it says load Pasengers but thers no Train there ? why ? I hope this can be fixed soon .
On the main line Steam Locos are limited to 75 MPH going forwards and 45 going tender first. it's not a bug
Got a repeat of the old bug from Southeastern where you don't spawn in your train, Scotsman service 1Z72 spawns me on foot in Doncaster while the train is in Peterborough, on PS5 and all up to date.
The AWS still works even when it's been turned off, but it doesn't have teeth when off. I turned it on but later turned it off because I couldn't here it properly and didn't want to miss an alarm, but it carried on with the bell for green and buzzer for the yellow and red signals
I think she could save some of the history for later in the trip, when there's otherwise not a whole lot going on. In the first few minutes of the first scenario, you'll still be figuring out how to set things up properly for going up Stoke Bank, and won't have much time to read a novella of text at the bottom of the screen.
