After you place the Vectron, sit in its driving seat for the game to register it as the player's train ( to prevent the rare cases where it doesn't work properly ) Open the map with the '9' key on your keyboard. *Don't open it in the pause menu as you can't interact with the map while the game is paused. Click on your loco. A menu will appear. Choose the first option - 'Set path' Click on your destination ** If you want to do the same with AI present around you - Open the timetable mode on the route of your choice. Choose 'On-foot' in the loco. list. Choose your spawn point. Repeat the steps above. ** Destinations - Finding out what you should & shouldn't choose as your 'immediate' destination is a minigame in itself... The general idea is that if you have to go over a set of automatic points, you need to start from behind a signal. If there is no signal between you and the points, the game won't allow you to set the path there. Similarly, if you're trying to go on a non-electrified path in an electrified loco ( Vectron in OP's case ) you can't do that either. If you're playing in the timetable mode, make sure that you're using the right 'track lane' to get to your destination (Right-hand side in the US, left in the UK and so on ) to prevent the deadlocks. Use 'Go via waypoints' if necessary to adjust the path.
I experimented a bit with the N-Wagen. The BR 143 cannot open the doors of the N-Wagen, but the Dispolok BR 182 and BR 187 for some Reason can, but the Doors only open when a CabCar is hanging at the End.
Yeah... Another thing I noticed was that for some odd reason, when you couple a loco that is not supposed to be there, you are now unable to open/close the doors. I did the same with Flying Scotsman x Dostos Vectron X Class 66 X Dostos
I had a Cornfield meet on the Austrian route It seems the AI signallers can't cope with free roam trains when the have to cross double track and run wrong line until the next crossover, even when signals are available to protect that movement. It's just something to be aware of - it actually quite scary when it happens. The emergency brake prevented many fatalities!
I just spawned at Huddersfield to test out free roam in service mode. First I took a look at when the next passenger train to Leeds was due, then I walked over to the cold and dark Class 47 in a siding. After starting the engine and watching the passenger train leave I set my route to Holbeck Depot. I followed the service as far as Heaton Lodge, where I was routed to overtake the 101 at Mirfield. I then continued on to Holbeck depot where I was able to reach the refuelling point and fuel the loco up. I finally set a route to one of the dock sidings at Leeds where I shut the engine down. Great experience, a big improvement over TSW3, to drive a service like that previously would have required a huge amount of time modding and in the scenario planner. Now we can do it spontaneously, big thumbs up.
Please make it so we don't have to go back into the menu to place down another vehicles, its a pain when I need to place down 10-50 of the same car...... Also, you cant spawn in freight cars loaded.
Here's something interesting for free roam, we don't have a proper Amtrak Diesel yet, but doing a Pennsylvanian Run on Horseshoe curve using the F125. The routing looks like it works well too. EDIT: Yeah, the run is actually a pretty nice one, depart Johnstown around 9:00am (IRL it departs at 9:03am). Mark the Altona Station as your destination, and you are routed on the middle track all the way till the end. You get to pass 4 Westbound trains on the line.
Let us have the option to spawn locos cold & dark in free roam. Make it a toggle or something. If players really get stuck they can use the I'm stuck button to get it to the warm default.
My efforts so far. Decided to remove the container flats that had been stabled in the siding on Dresden Riesa for over two years. 33/0 on a short Ballast working from Hinksey to Acton Yard DB BR204 in the Power Station on Ruhr Sieg Nord. Unfortunately there is no load or unload instruction so the loaded wagons were taken away again. A nice 12km run down to the nearest station / yard. Spawning a FGW 166 (This is still in the game) and running from Paddington to the other Underground / overground station on the other side of the line (not Royal Oak). I did try this with the Bakerloo 72 stock but it wouldn't work as there is no "Juice" in the 3rd rail. The same as the OHLE along the route.
Finally got to take the Class 52 onto WCL and definitely had fun thrashing it up and down the hills during heavy thunderstorms, started out nice and sunny in Penzance and only just cleared up as I arrived at St. Austell
Might do a double 323 on Glossop Line when I get it, one being in Northern livery and the other in WMR
Well... ICE on the northern end of the Nantenbacher Kurve (MSB) IC on the southern end of the Nantenbacher Kurve (KWG) (For unknown reasons out of bounds markers prevent you from taking a full run on the Nantenbacher Kurve...)
There were times when you could get around these points by quickly saving before the game kicked you out and then reloading. No idea if this still works.
Here are a few more of my ideas. DB BR146 "Sonderzug" on Cologne-Aachen and DB BR 155 pulls a heavy Ore Train between Mainz-Koblenz
If you have Peninsula Corridor the F40PH is a more accurate choice. Here's the eastbound Southwest Chief departing San Bernardino some time in the 1980s:
So decided to try and run a class 47 + 35 MFA's and 5 Seacows's from Beeston Yard to Toton. You can freely move around the Yard at Beeston but you can't get out. The points don't work (presumably the point motors are either dummies or not working). I did try to slowly move by putting the destination towards the exit of the yard. But iufortunately I spadded. Also none of the destinations to Toton or even Leicester were selectable. Will try again in a few days. The OHLE on the Antelope Valley route isn't energised so nothing overhead electric won't work. Nothing stopping you putting a DMU on there though. Hentis
My first go at a free roam local freight on NYT. Spawned at Metuchen. Currently backing into a siding a couple of miles south. Guess i'm calling it a ballast train? Btw does anyone else think these NS gondolas sound weird? Hard to describe.... Anyway Free Roam ideas: More on-foot spawn points....ideally you should be able to spawn anywhere on the map On-foot teleport option- would love to be able to pop some freight cars around the map to then go collect them. Formation editor sooner rather than later please The OPTION to turn off ALL invisible walls (let me fall through/out of the map Be able to spawn and path AI trains (dreaming but maybe some day) Seriously though this feature has rekindled the joy for me in TSW. Great job DTG!
Here's one Welcome to the ISLE of Wight Steam Island Railway. You can now place trains on it and drive the whole line.(Well at least what line is there. Note You can't walk the long part of the line but you can drive a train.
Once I finish downloading everything, I might get some example pics for my Improving Lineside Industry posts. Endless possibilities.
Attempted to run a Metrolink train with some bombardier cars like you see on some actual Metrolink trains. Cab car refused to move and doors acted funky, but at least it can still be done
Haven't been able to get CC liveries working but ran the WB Pennsylvanian (appx). Spawned at Altoona (middle right track because the right track was blocked by 2 straight trains) and due to on and off rain and getting jobbed by the NS dispatcher lol i was 28 (!) min late to Johnstown. Forgot how ugly the TSW2 sunsets were ugh. TOD4 some day? Really fun though, lots of AI and some yellow and reds (i re routed a couple times ngl)! Gonna try Capitol limited on Sandpatch (just run to end of map)
Are reskinned wagons available in free roam? The reason I ask is that I'm unable to find my creators club subcribed reskins such as MFA/JNA's etc. I can however find all my subcribed reskinned locos.
Just a few ad-hoc runs I've tried in my first day with the game (sorry for the lack of photos): Express run on Birmingham Cross City Something I've wanted to do since I first played this route on TSW3 is do a fast HST run from New Street out towards the Bristol Mainline, but it's never been possible in scenario planner due to it always routing you onto the slow lines at King's Norton. Now this is 100% possible as you can set the route onto the non-electrified fast lines between King's Norton and Longbridge and have the fun of overtaking stopping services as well. Even better, you can race through Bromsgrove without stopping and the screen fades to white some distance beyond the station. Island Line Racing a class 483 and 484 over the pier at Ryde, as you can use the second disused track. Put a steam train on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway at Smallbrook Junction – you can't drive it very far though, as the track just ends a short distance after the station, but it adds to the route's immersion! South Eastern High Speed Drive a train out of Ashford International along the track towards Charring (I think?) which parallels the high speed line. The scenery is surprisingly not that sparse. Take a freight train onto the fright line near Northfleet and into the nearby sidings. Great Western Spawn a Gatwick Express train at Paddington and set a route towards the Heathrow tunnels. Although you can't get very far beyond the flyover, the game again fades to white once you go out of bounds so you don't need to stop for a red signal, which again helps with the immersion. All in all, I think this is the most fun I've had with TSW in a while, and the bar was high. I truly hope they can bake this flexibility into scenario planner in a future update.
Trying to do a proof of concept on the Providence Line by running EMUs up and down the line. But the OBB Talent doesn’t have any power, probably because the catenary voltages aren’t aligned. Any way around this?
Don't forget when the screen fades and takes you back to the menu don't forget you can carry on. Just press the freeroam tab. Top left tab. Your still be in the train. If your not in the train press the CTRL and 0 keys on your keyboard and it should place you back i the drivers seat. Hentis
Running the 465 on London Commuter, hoping not to get run over. What a fun route that is and nicely done.
Just spent an enjoyable couple of hours exploring RSN's nooks and crannies with the BR628. Kudos to the signalling team, it all works, even when shunting. Great fun!
Running freight in daylight I an instant win in my book…. especially now that I can pick a longer rake, double-head, top & tail….
Seems not at the moment, but you can Go Via and just set up each intermediate stop as you go. Works for me, most of the time - occasionally I get booted out with a “end of modelled area” (something like that) message, but most of those “wish I could go there” sidings etc seem to be accessible. Best feature of TSW4 by miles IMHO!
I myself don't own the route with the br 385 but can or has anybody tried spawning anything onto any areas with the track used by the tram?
Just sharing my short story! Drove a 101 IC from Augsburg to Munich and then spawned a 185 MRCE to pull it out and parked it on Pasing Nebengleis. A bit a delay for the other timetable trains Free roam is a beautiful and funny thing to try crazy stuff! Love it!
Drove a steam hauled excursion to the seaside at Saltburn and here's the best bit, reversed into the sidings and ran round the train. The service train arrived while I was doing it so I waited for it to leave then backed into the station and drove the train back to Darlington.....tender first! Never been able to do that before. Absolute game changer this, my interest in the game has been restored. Now planning a 4F hauled coal train from Darlington dropping off wagons at the yards at Allens West and Cargo Fleet. Just hope the invisible barriers don't spoil the fun.
I agree, took a pair of 20s down from the Boulby branch on 28 PGAs loaded to round the back at Middlesborough Station. TSW needed this feature so badly and it's a bonus that it can be done in timetable mode. Breathes new life into the whole thing.
