For the return trip to London, I used the corresponding Class 395 Javelin. During the drive, I have a nice surprise!...
Finally...when returning to London St. Pancras, and passing the "colorful" freight yard, - just before one of the last tunnels-... I had an idea! Could be possible to drive a train from that yard?... I checked the map, and I noticed there is a connection with the high speed line!. Great! So...I prepared a freight train from there! Class 66 on GBRF paint scheme with container freight cars!. Now...the first pictures, when departing the yard. The rest... by tomorrow. Please notice I had to wait for a Javelin, coming from the opposite direction, before leaving the yard.
I did this and used the slow lines as per timetable, ended up arriving into East Croydon ten minutes down as got stuck behind an all station stopper and left East Croydon fifteen down as had to wait for a Littlehampton train to go ahead of me
Interesting. I left the ‘signaller’ to decide the routing and it switched me to the fast line and got me past the stopper. I think I delayed a GatEx unit on a Brighton a bit though!
It was a great run though as I had to concentrate with the signals. I will say that I chose to remain on the slow lines to East Croydon doing the via routing option.
Following another train - particularly a stopping train - is one of the things I enjoy most on TSW. I love judging the speed to stay close enough to the train in front to maximise line capacity, but far enough away to keep it rolling, rather than repeatedly stopping at red signals. It’s an experience which happens frequently in real life but rarely in TSW timetables, because everything runs on time and trains aren’t often scheduled to follow slower trains for long distances. But with Free Roam you can re-create it quite easily. Another good one is to run a cross-country HST from Lichfield City to Bromsgrove - inevitably following stoppers most of the way - and it’s really satisfying.
I did enjoy that situation very much too! As you mentioned this is not very common on timetable mode. On some scenarios you have that. But please notice something important about it... With the new "Free Roam" great feature, you can do it frequently. As you can add your train, who departs behind a previous one. This could be done also, on parallel tracks or platforms. Just allow the other train to starts before yours. Of course with Free Roam you do not adds AP for stopping at stations. I am not sure about it in general drives. There is an AP counter, but when you reach your destination, it says "complete" but not sure if the AP are added to your account. If someone else knows exactly how this works, will be appreciated.
Some impressions from München Augsburg... BR 612 on it's way to Kempten BR 204 to Augsburg Hafen BR 628 to Ingolstadt BR 642 to Weilheim (Oberbay) A Vectron to München Nord RBf Wouldn't it be nice, driving down your ICE towards Augsburg Hbf and see the station populated like this...
Of course, you can also run a cross country service on Cross City using a 47 + 7 mk2s. That makes the control of the train on the cautionary aspects a bit trickier, with the brake being less responsive than that on the HST. Storming past the 323 on the 4-track section after Kings Norton (southbound) is fun.
And from the other side... ICE1 to Ingolstadt... IC to Rosenheim Talent 2 to Garmisch BR 612 to Lindau Would be quite nice to see München Hbf somehow like this...
Second part of the drive with the Class 66 on SEHS. Now from the big yard, up to Faversham. But now changing the freight cars: Left the containers, and coupled the tiny 2 axle EWS ones.
cool thing would be not only if you could select destination and a "via" point, but if some tool actually allowed you to select stations and stop points (like you have menu when you spawn trains)... and you could create a custom service on the spot, cos now it is just point A to point B O ... also it would be nice if you get indicators for platforms - like so you dont accidentally select a regional platform for a highspeed train, cos that tends to fck up LZB and make your journey miserable
Yes, I agree with you. That would be great. But that feature could be the Free Roam 2.0 one, ... may be next year!...
Okay now that I have tsw4, the thing I want to do in free roam soon is Sand Patch Grade. When I first got into tsw with tsw2, I went to that sandbox scenario where can switch as pleases. Well I built this huge consist, and linked up 9 locomotives from around the yard and thought "cool now I can take this up the grade!" But no, red signal forever. But now free roam makes it possible. And easier with spawning locos anywhere.
I wish they got rid of some kind of limit in free roam... maybe it will go away once they get the Consist editor running, dunno... but I tried getting some ICE3s together in Wurzburg... the maximum I got to was 2x16 consists, which was ridiculously long and heavy, like 800m and over 1000 tons, but allowed me multiple instances of 280 km/h... once I tried coupling more, I ran into automatic derailing XD
Hello everyone, I am back with another Free Roam adventure, this time from the Glossop Line... Chapter 1: A New Kind of 323 Joins The Fray: The year is 2024, and West Midlands Railway have introduced their new Class 730 EMUs on the suburban network around Birmingham, replacing their Class 323 units. So Northern, the other operator of the type, has acquired the remaining 323 units to become the sole operator of the class and today is the first day of the ex-WMR 323s entering service on the Northern network. The Units Involved: 323202: The second of the class to be built, 323202 is the first ex-West Midlands Railway unit to enter service on the Northern network and it is operating a six-car service on the Glossop Line for its first diagrams of its new life. Here it is pictured passing Hyde North on the approach to Flowery Field station, quite aptly saying 'Not In Service' on the Destination Display as the Northern destinations have not been inputted into 323202's display yet. It is based at Ardwick Depot (Manchester) and formerly based at Soho Depot (Birmingham) 323233: Now, to our resident Class 323... 323233 is one of Northern's own 323 units and this morning has been coupled to classmate 323202 to work a service to Glossop and it is operating as a six-coach service, which is rare for the Glossop Line as most stations on this route cannot fit 6 car 323 sets, which is why Northern allocate only 1 323 set per diagram for this route. Here it is pictured at Manchester Piccadilly prior to depart bound for Glossop. Time for Departure: The driver closes the doors ready for departure only to be stopped further up the platform by a red signal thanks to fellow 323 unit 323223, working a service to Stoke-on-Trent departing from the platform alongside us (below), plus a sneaky shot from inside 323234 of 323202 in its West Midlands Railway colour scheme... We are finally on our way, passing through Ardwick station as we say goodbye to 323223 as it heads for Stoke, before approaching our first stop of Ashburys (below) Chapter 2 on the next page...
Chapter 2: Leaving Greater Manchester Behind with 2 Different Hypers: As we leave Ashburys, the sun begins to rise and we continue to two lesser-used stations by Glossop Line services, Gorton and Fairfield. Gorton and Fairfield do have a regular service however, as they are served by services to and from Rose Hill Marple, operated by Class 150 'Sprinter' or Class 156 'Super Sprinter' DMUs (the odd 195 Civity DMU operates the service too) so Glossop-bound services only stop there in the peak to ensure commuters can get into Manchester city centre quicker. Gorton: Fairfield: From here on out, it is all stations to our terminus at Glossop, and our next station is a junction station called Guide Bridge... Guide Bridge serves the Rose Hill Marple and Glossop Line services, but it is occasionally used during diverts when Manchester Victoria is closed by TransPennine Express services heading to North East England, operated by Class 185 DMUs or Class 802 BMMUs (Bi-Modal Multiple Units). As we pass the Up and Down Passenger Loop after leaving Guide Bridge, we pass Hyde North station, which is where the Rose Hill Marple services diverge off the route towards Glossop and Hadfield. Hyde North is one of five stations serving the town of Hyde, Tameside, Greater Manchester (the others being Flowery Field, Newton for Hyde and Godley on the Glossop Line and Hyde Central on the line towards Rose Hill Marple and New Mills Central) Hyde North: Newton for Hyde: Chapter 3 on the next page...
Chapter 3: The Weather Turns Wintery: We are now out of Greater Manchester as we head towards our next station, Hattersley. Hattersley is unique because it is one of two stations (three if you include Manchester Piccadilly), which have island platforms, the other being the aforementioned Ardwick station back in Manchester. Here is an interior shot inside 323202 as we board passengers at Hattersley. (Yes, 323202 does look less busy than 323233, let's imagine it is because people cannot leave the train at most stations from the middle or rear carriages of the rear unit) We pass through Broadbottom and are crossing Dinting Viaduct before we arrive into Dinting, from where the weather turns wintery... Broadbottom: Dinting Viaduct: Dinting Viaduct (also known as Dinting Arches) is a 19th-century railway viaduct in Glossopdale in Derbyshire, England, that carries the Glossop Line over a valley at the village of Dinting. It crosses the Glossop Brook and the A57 road between Manchester and Sheffield. First opened in 1844 as part of the original Woodhead Line by the Sheffield, Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester Railway (later the MSLR and GCR), the viaduct has been modified a number of times, most notably by the addition of seven brick strengthening piers in 1918–20. The viaduct comprises three sections: starting from the south end, there is a series of seven stone arches, each 50 feet (15 m) wide. The central section consists of five openings (later divided by strengthening piers). A further four stone arches take the railway to the northerly junction with the branch to Hadfield and into Dinting station. It is of similar design to the shorter Broadbottom Viaduct, about 1.5 mi (2.4 km) west down the same line, which crosses the River Etherow at Broadbottom. As we leave Dinting and round the curve to head into Glossop (holding up the actual timetabled service back to Manchester Piccadilly in the process), it starts snowing out of the blue, so it is time to get our wipers on and enjoy the snow as we make our final approach into our terminus of Glossop. At last we have arrived into Glossop, where this service terminates, our driver will drive 323202 and 323233 empty back to Ardwick Depot for redeployment later in the day, Glossop is beginning to get covered in snow as well, so our driver will have to be careful applying power on the return run to Ardwick. I hope you have enjoyed this story and hopefully this inspires you to do something based off a real-world event in Free Roam, I've been TrainGeek08 as always, enjoy the rest of the year and see you later Source for Dinting Viaduct Information: Dinting Viaduct - Wikipedia
Well...took a trip on Harlem line...and turned to the right behind Woodlawn, so the "New Haven Line" I think... There are still station markers in the route monitor, so this would be Mount Vernon East... Pelham... The Amtrak/NEC long distant lines meet again short before New Rochelle... and finally New Rochelle, I guess
I tried making up a fake scenario - like, shunting IC coaches from Aschaffenburg port to the station and there spawn a loco for it... but couldnt figure out how to make a path out of the yard near the docks ... oh well, they will hopefully expand upon this so we can goof off more ... looking forward to consist editor, and making super-long ICE consists for sh*ts and giggles ... I mean, even 2x16 ICE3 was kinda hilarious, or 1x Taurus +IC coaches + 1x Taurus +IC coaches + 1x Taurus
I hardly ever use passangers train in free roam, without service stops and passangers boarding it has very small sense for me. As to the freight, Im waiting for formation designer to make it somehow usable.
I tried a EWS class 66 in free roam on Horseshoe Curve on the South fork branch using the buckeye coupler it spawned 5 UP boxcars coupled up to them worked great ...Also a note tested a few other US locos here are a few that DO work UP SD40 2 NS and UP GP 38 2 MP 36 and F40ph Cat so there are a few US locos that Do work in free roam on TSW4 and I did this test on X Box series S
also ran a trio of Conrail painted SD40 2 s on a empty coal train with NS hoppers the Conrail was a livery off creators clud that someone. Applied to UP SD40 2 with that can now run some retro Conrail painted power in free roam
Took a trip on the RB20 Düren-Langerwehe(-Eschweiler West-)Stolberg Hbf-Eilendorf-Aachen Hbf(-Herzogenrath-)Stolberg Hbf-Stolberg Altstadt... So...Düren Gl.4... Branching off to Eschweiler West... Restarting behind Eschweiler West... Crossing under the mainline... Stolberg Hbf... Eilendorf... Aachen Hbf... on my way to Herzogenrath...may be around Aachen-Schranz Back again on the track somewhere behind Herzogenrath... Crossing the mainline again short before Stolberg.. Stolberg Hbf again... somewhere on the way to Stolberg-Altstadt... and then all the way back to Langerwehe...
I've just started playing TSW4 and am discovering the delights of Free Roam Spawning. I spawned a 700 at Peterborough with the intention of taking it eventually to Doncaster doing a mixture of fast/slow lines and stopping in the loops to watch the Azumas overtake. Then this happened... I was on a two-track section and noticed on the HUD a 15 mph speed limit coming up, and started to get checked down to a red just before the 15. However, when I checked, the HUD aspect was showing green. Odd, I thought, so I contacted the signaller who responded with 'Proceed as signals indicate', so I reckoned the HUD was probably correct and proceeded. No SPAD - phew, but I am crossing over onto the Up line - wrong line running. What the....??? OK, so I put the power down and was soon flying along at 100 mph hoping I wouldn't meet an Azuma with a closing speed of 225 mph! Suddenly, an Azuma goes flying past me, heading north on the Down line, which was rather exhilarating at that speed I now notice another 15 mph coming up. I wondered if the 'signaller' had routed me wrong line to let the Azuma past and then get me back over*. But on approach to the cross over there was the Azuma waiting at a red. Crazy. I give him a little cheeky toot as I pass by. On I go stopping in the next loop and the 801 finally gets ahead. I don't know what made the game do that, but it was excellent fun! *I now think this unlikely as there wouldn't have been any signals to protect the 801.
I made a Free Roam run, on the Tharandter Rampe ( Chemnitz to Dresden route), following a DB BR 612, (so I have some yellows and reds). I used the BR 193 Vectron, with the VTG freight cars, but using the really beautiful - of course in my opinion -, Budamar rail freight company of Slovakia, with special paint scheme.
hello! do any of y’all know why i cannot spawn my custom livery coach car timetable/free roam mode in TSW 4?
I explore unused track uncommon maneuvers on connrcting track and explore just how far you can go on branches before you get out of area. Sadly too early in some places. But i miss one function in free roam in time table mode. To be able to replace a scheduled service with my choice of stock and still run the scheduled service with time table stops, passengers boarding and PIS. Shouldn’t be too hard to implement a check if you remove a regular service if i want to replace/substitute stock.
Why not populate ÖBB container Terminal Wolfurt using locos that can support Sggmrss? To do this you're going to need trains that spawn loaded Sggmrss like the ÖBB Baureihe 1293 Railpool 193. For the Shunter ÖBB documents Verschrub lok you need Niddertalbahn 365 RSN/DCZ Riesa Dresden 363s RRO G6. Example of the set-up I did
somehow if I try to change ends in BR401 in free roam, the whole train seems to not respond to any commands like raise/lower pantograph etc., I have to despawn it, and make it so the front end is facing the direction I want to go... dunno why
You need to "unlock" the other cab before leaving the first one. There's a button on the rear cab wall.
ok, did that according to some other thread, and it worked in the way that the cab got activated... but on that other end, the needle for throttle doesnt move on the display, just shows that power is applied... and the acceleration is somehow different there, more sluggish... dunno why edit: could be that I forgot to release something?
ok now I know why... the train was moving, but sluggishly, and the needle didnt move because... I needed to reapply both parking brakes, then release them... gah I swear ICE 1 has the most obnoxious cab change in the whole game
