I am writing this thread to ask if you have discovered any super gems of routes in the Steam Workshop for Train Simulator 2020.....? I am only looking for routes (complete/partial/extension) that are self-contained plus any that only make use of main DLC routes published on Steam..... but not including those that require payware re-skins.... just the "free stuff"... (LOL...!), albeit accepting that the purchase of some full main DLC routes might be needed. I'd find any recommendations mega-useful (or any tips on how to effectively sift through 24,000 workshop entries...), but I think anyone else new to TS2014 - TS2020, would benefit as well.... and to that end.... here is what I have found so far (which I think I have categorised correctly... but this might not be 100% accurate....): Official rebuilds of complete routes from Railworks 2 that work with TS2020: - Castle Rock Railway - Hedborough North - Seebergbahn Completely self-contained routes: - City Lines (WS) - Heritage route - Industrial Shunting It's Grim Up North - Wycombe Branch - South Yorkshire Lines Extensions to main route DLC: - Windermere (WCML Over Shap) Era/power modifications to main route DLC: - BR ECML Kings Cross - Edinburgh to Glasgow Electrified - Great Western Mainline Electrified - Great Western Mainline Electrified (Oxford) - Liverpool to Manchester Electrified - London Transport Heritage (plus Trams) - North Somerset Electrified (3rd rail) - Riviera Line Electrified - Settle to Carlisle Electrified Merges of main route DLCs (various) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=341255096 For anyone new to TS2020.... I think the top eight routes in the list above are absolutely great as freebie routes.... and I do wonder if everyone knows about them....(I have only just found them myself...)? Are there any other brilliant routes that I have missed out....?
Era/power modifications to main route DLC: (I changed modificatons) Weardale and Teesdale Electric https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=615360583 Nice route for running Green/BR Blue electrics Peter
Thanks for this Peter - this one looks fabulous...! I have now found another one to add, which is really just another minor variation: Era/power modifications to main route DLC: - London Transport Heritage (plus Trams plus 3rd rail)
It is hard finding routes on the workshop now, unless someone knows a way I don't?! Before you could filter out routes from scenarios: The Canal Branch and Warrborough and Pyne are very good steam era routes if you like that period. The BR Blue versions of Liverpool to Manchester, Paddington to Swindon and Settle to Carlisle (Settle Carlisle 1975) are good for running BR Blue stock.
Take a look here: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop...§ion=readytouseitems&requiredtags[]=route
Many thanks...! This is brilliantly useful as a link with the necessary search parameters built-in.... Totally superb...! I was starting to find it easier to compile a list by searching on YouTube....! So - it looks like there are about 600 workshop routes available (that have been properly tagged with "route"). Wowsers....! I really learned a great deal from this one link... ;-)
Oh wow - this has saved me so much time, it is almost unbelievable. Thanks again...! And this little gem has made my day, and my week.... and depending on tomorrow's announcement.... possibly my month...: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=229323777&searchtext= ;-)
Yes that is great thanks. Will be very useful, I shall have a look through them this evening. Thank you.

Very many to everyone here for contributions so far - I think you've made this thread sticky-able.... I am not sure what the criteria is for stickiness, but if DTG Protagonist agrees that something like this thread would really help new people extend their experience in TS1 (and if the thread is appropriately titled, etc.), then that would be great...! The contributions made by Tomas9970 alone... in my opinion, are worthy of a sticky. Either way - I have found it useful - so thank you again to Tomas9970, theorganist, Blacknred81 and of course 749006 .
Hold fire on the sticky for now - I'm planning a slight forum reshuffle (to make this place a little easier to navigate). After that's done the right place for the thread should be obvious.
Thanks for picking these favourites out. I had a look at the Canal Line: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=872877887&searchtext= This needs three (inexpensive, and commonly used) scenery packs, which I will now pick up in a sale. And.... quite inspirationally.... the Canal Pack..... https://store.steampowered.com/app/326040/TS_Marketplace_Canal_Pack/ .....looks like something that might actually encourage me to make a start with the Editor... as every other project floating around in my mind might be just a bit too much for starters... plus I reckon I can maybe get scripting going to customise canal boat traffic, etc.... ;-) Cheers....!
The Canal Line is great for just setting up a freeroam with a couple of coaches scatter some wagons around and a Pannier tank or two and you can have hours of fun shunting, running a pick up goods or the branch passenger train without having to worry about timetables or achievements. It is quite fun manually operating the points too. It is well made and very pretty. There is another too, the Lakes Line with I think/assume is based in the Lake District. However that does need quite a few add-ons. It too is very scenic.
Mirco Island. Surprised no one said that one yet. Scenarios for it are in the description, as a separate file. Requires Edinburgh-Glasgow and WCML North. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=428711311
While not on the Steam community wksps, https://www.wotawallysbits.co.uk/ts2018-routes The North Lincs route by John Kirk in fantastic. Heaps on scenarios and constantly updated.
Yes - I have grabbed this one...!. I have so far grabbed about x100 routes/variations, including about x20 (twenty...!) significantly original route builds. I am only half-way through the list of 600 or so..... ;-) I might now have to get the Western Lines of Scotland DLC, after all, to access some of the major works. I am slightly miffed that Marias Pass DLC is unavailable in the UK, as a large number of US-based Workshop builds use this DLC as a key source, so all of those Workshop items are excluded from use for non-US residentsd.... which is a shame... But overall... I'm blinkin' ecstatic.... Last night I simply had to run a Class 40 with some MkIs from East Croydon into flooded central London.... ;-)
