Just had an update through steam like 5 minutes ago, and suddenly the executable is gone, and my assets folders is suddenly 200 Gb less. I tried Uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but the executable is still missing. My game is basically gone.
The executable is in your Railworks folder and its either RailWorks64.exe or RailWorks.exe Check if they are there - if not raise a ticket with DTG https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/reporting-a-technical-issue.31193/
No its not mr smart. The update has completely removed files from the game. I have zero install on my ssd
The game files have all disappeared. Executables from the RailWorks folder plus the content of all other folders within RailWorks. The Content and Assets folders are now empty.
I’m pretty sure I already know where my executable is supposed to be. Even then, I mentioned how my asset folder is gone, which is also in the Railworks folder. But the update literally uninstalled the game. I’ve already submitted a ticket.
I'M SICK OF YOU'RE LOVE NOW !!! You better resolve the problem right away because I'm seriously starting to have problems with your bugs! I have a latest generation I9 with 64GB of Ram and do you think it's normal that I still have the Out Of Memory bug? Damn, are you coding with your ass or what?
Thanks for uninstalling things that are not even accessable anymore this is a right mess I now have to spend additonal money I don't have getting a subscription to get 3 routes that I need for other scenarios as well as the AP stuff that has gone, DTG have made a right mess of this one that is going to impact thousands of people. It may not even be worth reinstalling it tbh for me anyway I might just call it quits.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure that it’s not only a major problem for us, but i think you’re also stepping into potentially violating steams TOS and even the law. You can still buy TSC on steam, and you get nothing in return. Nothing gets installed, and they still got your money. You guys need to fix it in a few hours, or remove the listing from steam. This isn’t just a funny out of memory bug, you’re taking peoples money and not delivering a product.
I got it too and I've examined what's gone. What is removed: All files downloaded via Steam are removed. All trains, routes, scenarios, manuals that have been installed by Steam have been removed. This includes the game itself and all of the things needed to make it run. What is not removed: As long as it doesn't directly overwrite files installed by Steam, downloaded mods (including those from the Workshop) will not be removed. That means that when the update is rolled back or there's a new update, most things won't need to be reinstalled if they're bought from other websites. If the update has already been installed: My best advice is to rename the RailWorks folder to something like RailWorks1. Then create a new folder called RailWorks and leave it empty for now. As long as it's not the same it will work. When the next update is available, it will install into the new folder you created. Then, you can copy the contents of the RailWorks1 folder into the new folder and you'll avoid any potential file verification issues. If the update has not been installed yet: Rename RailWorks to RailWorks1, as I explained before. You may also want to create the new RailWorks folder as well, but I don't think that'll be necessary. You will be able to play the game normally until a fix comes out, at which point you may want to rename RailWorks1 back to RailWorks if you didn't create the latter, or if you already have created the new RailWorks folder you can copy one into the other and it should work fine. The update certainly wasn't intentional, they are already well aware of what is going on. As for the legality of it, this isn't a scam - my best guess is that a regular patch was meant to be released today, but the correct contents weren't selected for it. Whatever the process was, somebody didn't check what the update would do and then it released. If somebody buys Train Simulator right now they will be entitled to a refund because of Steam's refund policy. I've had the game since 2013 and I'd likely still be able to get a refund for the same reason. Plus, you're able to install the previous version via the Steam console anyway, but I don't know how to do that. That will at least fix the missing executable problem and allow you to play with whatever mods you have, as long as they don't require anything from DLC.
Wow, how do you make an update like this that completely removes access to the game? Like how? Was it not properly tested?
The same thing just happened to me I can still access my assets folders. the .ap files just disappeared. It is like Thanos snapped everything out of existence
FFS I have not even ventured into the realm of DX12 and have just fired up steam to find you are trying to delete over 1.3TB of DLC that have cost me somewhere in the region of over £5,000, many of which are no longer available. Why have you not disabled this update download Immediately? I have come on this forum to be told "we are aware of a Major issue that we are still allowing to be downloaded" thanks a million, I hope your solicitors are prepared for a battle, this is serious on all levels, absolutely disgusted.
Will it be removed from steam as I haven’t switched on today. My TSC will automatically update as soon as I sign in.
Compltey switch off your wifi from your computer or unplug the ethernet cable and start steam in offline mode this seems to work the best for other users
My advice above is to just rename the RailWorks folder before opening Steam, this will prevent the update from installing. The content has not been removed from your account - it is impossible for an update to do that. See, it's still there. The contents of all TS content on the Steam Store has been replaced with empty folders. Once it is fixed (which probably won't be very long; I think DTG's in Code Red right now) it will reinstall as normal - although reinstalling patches and stuff will be the annoying part.
According to further reports it just seems to be that .ap files have been removed and not any other files hopefully reskins and things are still there but will have to wait for the patch to install before the full damage has been revealed.
yeah, think of how many tons of freeware files that have become inaccessible over the years are lost now
I feel like im in the wrong because I accidentally put the new update, thinking it was like a new patch or a small update, but I didn't know it was going to be a Wipe-Your-Whole-Game 3000 update. Well Dovetail, this is a bit silly, to say the least, how it got through is anybody's idea.
Yep, I'm getting the new update too. I thought the Rush Hour update on PS4 update was bad! Only files installed via Steam are affected.
When I tried to open up steam, it gave me the “missing executable”. So I restarted and now the update wants to be downloaded. I assume I should not let it happen but the fact it happened to me the other way round (ie executable before update, not update then executable) is a bit odd
No, I meant judging by their words THEY think it's ok, no problem anymore. "we want to apologise for the inconvenience being unable to launch the game, and for the time needed to re-install various add-ons", but only for this.
Not sure what's happened for you. All of my AP train packs are still there for example. The only thing third party content that will 100% certainly be removed are sound packs and other patches. Enhancement packs like the ones made by AP will be hit-and-miss depending on what's changed.
