Alright, still confused on the folder destination situation cause I did the stuff what Doomotron did.
Yes, but not all. After file verifications (the closest comparison I can think of) some work fine, some have one or two minor bugs and some just don't work at all. For example, the Electrostar EPs work fine for me, but the 800 EP's TMS display stops working.
Not exactly happy with the "update" that was put out, I think the person(s) responsible for the update needs to be sacked.
They could give everyone a route free of choice. I do not own the Saluda route so they could give me that one and maybe the scenariopacks too
Don't imagine things. As I mentioned above, judging by their apologies they already expect everybody to return to their normal life. Everything is ok, go check our autumn sale.
I haven't yet updated TSC, glad I read this!! Thanks DTG Jamie for the useful information, regarding this issue
A free DLC won't reinstall the patches I need to reinstall. I'll take it, but it's not enough of an apology for me. Then again there won't be anything like that, when they broke the PS4 version of TSW2 (which lasted a few days rather than a few hours) we got a basic apology and no compensation whatsoever.
My game was not affected by the update, I didn't got the update today until they allready posted that they fixed the issue and now my game is completely redownloading, all the 200gb's. Why redownload all the content when the update should have been applied only to the core game?
I didn't have to redownload the game! Then again, I seen this thread before even loading Steam. DTG Jamie said they have rolled back from the update that was causing some issues earlier. To answer your question, apparently the update was causing a lot of missing stuff! Hence the reason why you are downloading pretty much your entire game all over again.
That's the thing, i dindn't do the update before, this is the first update of the day so I shouldn't have missing content...well anyways it's not a big deal I was just wondering why I am redownloading everything even if my game wasn't affected by the initial faulty update.
Very strange! It hasn't yet downloaded for me. I'm on Steam right now and no update is available, I can just play the game as normal.
I am curious! I've never received any free DLC for TSC?? When was thins supposed to had happened?? If it's pre-2019 well, that explains why I've never received any free DLC for TSC..
Sorry, but DTG is showing itself to be totally incompetent. How can one company keep making so many ridiculous mistakes? They’re either incompetent or they have a saboteur on staff. They could maybe produce some quality DLC if not busy fixing all the errors they keep introducing. You couldn’t make it up and if you could, people wouldn’t believe it!
They gave away free French routes last year when they got took over. I'm lucky I had seen Alan's message so I never played tonight. I'm paranoid now about the next update
Saw speculation elsewhere that the patch update was empty of files, which caused the existing files to be deleted. IIRC there's been more than one incident in the past where the wrong file/wrong version of a file was included in a patch and caused problems. If that is the case this time as well, I hope DTG finally takes a hard look at the people and/or process causing this to keep happening.
Just don't buy Railroad X, totally a worthless train simulator! I brought it, hoping to build a route which was easy enough. But the biggest problems are. 1) The developer has stopped all interest finishing the game 2) No way to use DEM/SRTM for terrain in route building 3) No way to use longitude and latitude, for accurate routes 4) Here why I got a refund! The game only runs in 'DEMO' mode! Yes, I do agree that DTG's has it's moments! After all they are only human and we all make mistakes
I believe given what happened today everyone what be uneasy about any future updates, not knowing what to expect have happen.
ESPECIALLY from now on, make sure you have backups just in case anything like this ever happens again! Yes I understand it may take a while the larger your collection is, but it is better than the much larger amount of time it would take re-installing all your content from scratch and having to seek out third party content again to re-install. It truly sucks if you have custom content you have made and haven't backed up as that could be lost forever and you would have to redo it all again as well as third party content no longer up for sale. Backing up is the best fail safe option for this game and everyone should be doing it.
Agreed having to reinstall from scratch can be tidiest and long especially when you collection is large. Doing frequent backups would definitely save sometime. As for custom stuff from third parties would not be great if it is lost forever. Based on today I will be starting to regular backups at least once a month.
You are right of course but in our defense I would say it's pretty much rare occasion when the game basically performs suicide and deletes itself from the drive )
To make a backup on Steam! Right click on Train Simulator, then choose Properties. Click 'Installed files' then backup Game files. Give it a name and let Steam backup the files for you
That is a fair statement but it is always good to have a backup just in case. Who knows, your game may suddenly have issues and you may lose a fair amount of things due to no update or just some random bug / glitch. A suicide update is by no means the only possibility where you could lose precious in game content that could take a long time to recover.
As Steam does seemingly random file verifications which affect some add ins such as AP packs, I‘ve always kept regular backups anyway. I just let them run over lunchtime on Home Office days. My downloads directory automatically gets backed up to cloud storage so as soon as I download an add on outside of steam, that gets backed up without me even noticing. These days I don’t see why people don’t backup. There are loads of ways to lose data. SSDs do not have an infinite lifetime, there can be viruses and ransomware. If you‘ve got precious data that you can’t replace, you need to back it up. I feel sorry for those that genuinely have lost stuff. But storage is cheap and it really doesn’t take long to do.
Making a local backup using a 1TB SSD via USB is cheap insurance, $48.00/US. Not loosing all your DLC....Priceless. https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-1TB-Portable-SSD-USB/dp/B07YD5TK4F/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1CELC39QVAQXL&keywords=1+TB+external+ssd&qid=1700725147&sprefix=1+tb+external+ssd,aps,272&sr=8-4&th=1 Put one in your Christmas stocking.
This is what I am going to do today. Took me 14 hours to restore everything(490 Gb). 8 hours the coregame with all the routes I have and another 6 hours all the third party routes. So now I am going to do a backup with everything I have with TSC.
