I think that now the first Class 387 has been revealed in GBR livery and now actually exists, I personally think it would be appropriate for me to buy, now I've seen this in the flesh and it exists in reality.

As I have always said, until I saw the livery in the flesh, it wouldn't interest me as it would still be technically fictional. But now I have seen it, it exists, and has been applied exactly as it was demonstrated on the Class 802, I'll buy it.

I was never anti GBR branding in the game in the first place, I am just anti fictional. I think this will be tonights purchase!

A GBR Class 387 in Brighton! Looks like the paintwork should be continuing by Dovetail. At least I wish it. If you have a good relationship with the government it would be possible, wouldn’t it? You got a good start, I think. Despite the complaints about the price.

I do think the 387 and SWR 701 look pretty good from the pics / videos shared; the geometry of the units tends to make the design application appear a bit more understated / proportions look better; I think when you have more space to fill on the e.g 802, it looks a bit more garish

    This is true...

But a Class 701 was also put in GBR livery last night for a press event today. I am forming the opinion each nationalised operator will be applying the GBR livery to a unit every week. Also the application of the real livery matches the proposed one without any alterations (apart from some regional text beside the GBR logo), so the 802 in the game will look pretty much identical to one in real life, once it's applied (if the first 2 units are anything to go by).

I can live with it, knowing it will be applied in the coming months and look identical to the in game variation. My only feed back would be to apply the relevant regional brand beside the GBR text. (For example 'Great British Railways: Southern, Great British Railways: South Western have been applied to the first two units to distinguish the region they operate).

I think it's being applied during regular maintainance or when the trains need painting.

Thing is all the people that are moaning that (incl me) that they dont like it or it dont look right, will just have to suck it up. it is what it is.... What are you going to do about it? absolutely nothing!!
Yeah Wont use the railways again.... what because you dont like the paint scheme... it "offends" you that much. Seriously.

I have to wonder how bad it's going to look after several years though?

Just saying, to my understand the reason UP are decreasing the size of the flag on their units is because that graphic is hard to maintain, and looks awful after many years of running.

You say that, but this isn't even the first time a controversial livery scheme has been done and had public push-back in Britain.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Airways_ethnic_liveries

And last time it happened, they did actually cave and alter it based on feedback.

There isn't any reason to think they're going to stick with the livery if it's widely hated, which from everything I've seen this very much is. Like seriously, not even talking people complaining about nationalism, I've seen many graphic designers say it's just a horribly designed livery on those terms, there's a lot wrong with the design if you care about graphic design at all.

I actually think the livery looks better on the electrostar than it does on the IET because the even number of coaches provides a level of symmetry the odd number IET doesn't have. Two "arrows" facing each direction compared to three one way and two the other.
That being said I still think it would look better with only the "arrow" on the end coaches and then just a stripe (curved slightly possibly) alongside the middle coaches connecting them.

It also wouldn't surprise me if a GBR 387 add-on happened, but maybe DTG wouldn't bother after the negativity relating to the 802...

Well some could take a page out of the old Peak Army handbook and start dropping tins of paint on them from bridges...
Not condoning that nor encouraging it of course, just pointing out something from the days gone by and besides the Peak Army are tossers anyway, everybody knows the best Sulzer Type 4 is the 47....

I think the livery could work if they just used the sharp lines and colours only on the end/cabs of units, leaving the middle coaches blank and just dark blue... Having the sharp lines on each and every coach doesn't do the livery any favours.

Ya know, it the body was dark blue, doors white and then you had *just* the BR double arrows in red you could have the Red, White and Blue thing going on while looking significantly more tasteful and simpler to apply and care for, you could even flip the colour order about SWT style for Commuter, Regional and Intercity.

    Annoyingly what we have in game is also now out of date;

I.e should be GBR | East Coast / GBR | Great Western

*according to a post online with the updated franchises that I have no intention of spending the time validating

Yeah but I wouldn't put it past them - this is the British Government we're on about.

No they aren't It'll be a case of use whichever you want...... Unless you've selected a ticket that limits you to a particular departure.

Now the question is, when do we get the class 701 in game?

Well, as this class is retired already, we most likely will never see them in GBR livery. For me personally, the 701 will release first anyway ;)

Well that’s not confusing at all, LNWRs main thing is North London and the Midlands, hardly the North West aside from the very far reaches of its network.

It also sucks that very well known railway names are just being abandoned like LNER, GWR, LNWR, those were frankly pretty good and I’d personally have continued down that line of thinking, Make Avanti LMS again.

For North Western, they should've gone with London Midland IMO

I think they chose North Western to relate to LNWR moreso than the places it goes. Avanti West Coast does not spend much time near the west coast. Great Northern also only goes as North as King's Lynn. Its a matter of relating to the current names.

In some respects I think the regions are kind of unneeded if the only difference is a phrase on the side. Like if you were travelling from Newcastle to Edinburgh what real difference does it make if you're on a GBR East Coast vs GBR Transpennine vs GBR Cross Country?

Looking like it’s only a couple of days till it’s actually a real life, real world livery for you to drive. ;)
