    a) We're not confusing locking and deleting. We want the ability to use the thread.

    b) They don't really want people going to the GD first, they want people going to the DTG-created threads since those are more curated and controlled. That's part of the reason they wanted to get rid of the GD. The GD exists to be the voice of the mambership, as opposed to the official DTG created threads that are created and curated by the staff.

Just realised the model railway and real trains threads from off topic have been moved to general discussion

I was wondering if that's where they'd end up since there is no "Off Topic" anymore.

Perhaps, but to do that they'd have to lock or move every single post someone creates in GD for upcoming content. That would be an admin nightmare! Far better to accept the reality that people use GD to talk about future and current content, than try and stop that happening.

If it were me, I'd create (or tag) the first thread in GD on a piece of content as the official discussion thread for that content, then link to it from every article, and moderate other superfluous threads accordingly. It's what I've seen done in other forums.

By not liking to the GD, then DTG doesn't "have" to do anything all. They just link to their own one "official" threads (one in "Coming Soon" and once for "Out Now") Then they only have to monitor that. Like I said, the GD is player-run, and as such it can be narrower or wider than the DLC itself. It can also be put up for things that aren't "Coming Soon" yet like the Tadami Line or the upcoming route with the German steam locomotive.
At that point it's probably better for DTG not to be involved, then they don't have to answer questions they're not prepared for like "When?" "How much?" etc) It's more of a speculation and fan thread and not a definitive DLC release PR thread.

Yep, I flagged those in my "please keep" thread. Very happy that thread was useful.

I'm glad Off Topic was archived rather than deleted, but I have to question making it hidden rather than read-only. Seems to me that threads worth keeping are more likely to be found when someone searches for something rather than spontaneously from memory.

To be fair the price of TSW is getting to be an issue, it’s always been expensive but the value is nosediving now.

The technical state is the biggest issue of course, but other factors are becoming more of an issue. Variety is pretty much gone, TSW6 has just been a WCML & AT300 simulator, even when they’re re-doing the same trains over & over they’re not even keeping them all in-sync. We’ve got multiple sound & physic sets across the AT300 & 350’s now despite getting so many of them. Considering how much profit they’re squeezing out of those units they could at least be making the experience consistent.

TSW6 also went right upto the line for me with the deluxe not being worth the cost, I suspect TSW7 will take me over that line. US content is essentially pointless to buy anymore since it’s so bland or just more NewYork & the only hope of more than one route per year for it seems to come from a third party who find it acceptable to take an older train & resell it under the guise of being a completely different unit. German Content is just one big homogeneous collection of red AC locos where they still haven’t bothered to give us a better set of dostos despite them making up a significant chunk of gameplay. Stale doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about that side of things.

It’ll be nice to get a different collection of content for once, a UK route that isn’t set in IET era, a US route that comes with a bang rather than being a drab empty crawl or something using EMUs in NY & finally a European route that isn’t DB based. Above all else it needs to be content that’s actually playable quality on the majority of hardware the user base owns, rather than needing ridiculous levels of VRAM to run.

"TSW 7" likely won't cost anything.
Just the DLC that are packaged with the "bundles."
I just stuck with the base in TSW 6 and picked up content I wanted (mainly because the bundles weren't my taste)
The same should be possible in TSW 7.
If you don't like the bundles...like any other bundle just don't buy them.

Indeed, almost certain the core will be free - I was just being tongue in cheek.

But yes, the reprieve of GD doesn't mean I won't still be taking a more cautious view of what I buy in future, if only because I really don't want to clutter up HD space with stuff I drive once or twice then set aside. That extends to the TSW7 route bundle, ultimately I don't think I really got value for money out of the TSW6 one and with hindsight could have waited for a sale and even then probably just Riviera.

I guarantee you that people will speculate furiously in multiple threads on the same subject, if they're allowed to, if there are threads in both GD and a 'content' sub-forum.:)
