A lot of suggestions are about the line from Duisburg to Köln, either as an extension for the Hauptstrecke Rhein-Ruhr or a route from Köln to Duisburg or Oberhausen. As a proposal for the extension Hauptstrecke Rhein-Ruhr from Dortmund to Düsseldorf, I suggest the next route: Köln Hbf - Düsseldorf. This is via Leverkusen as Dormagen and Köln-Chorweiler. The total length of the route is 92,3 km (57,3 miles) long. Also a branch line from Köln-Mülheim to Bergisch Gladbach with a length of 8 km (5 miles) long. It has the following stations counter-clockwise: Düsseldorf Hbf Düsseldorf Volksgarten Düsseldorf-Oberbilk Düsseldorf-Eller Süd Düsseldorf-Reisholz Düsseldorf-Benrath Düsseldorf-Garath Düsseldorf-Hellerhof Langenfeld-Berghausen Langenfeld Leverkusen-Rheindorf Leverkusen-Küppersteg Leverkusen Mitte Leverkusen Chempark Köln-Stammheim (»Bergisch Gladbach, Duckterath, K-Dellbrück & K-Holweide) Köln-Mülheim Köln-Buchforst Köln Messe/Deutz Köln Hbf Köln Hansaring Köln-Nippes Köln Geldernstraße/Parkgürtel Köln-Longerich Köln Volkhovener Weg Köln-Chorweiler Köln-Chorweiler Nord Köln-Blumenweg Köln-Worringen Dormagen Chempark Dormagen Nievenheim Neuss Allerheiligen Norf Neuss Süd Neuss Hbf Neuss Am Kaiser Neuss Rheinparkcenter Düsseldorf-Hamm Düsseldorf Völklinger Straße Düsseldorf-Bilk Düsseldorf Friedrichstadt Düsseldorf Hbf The green-coloured stations are for the S-Bahn. The S6 drives from Essen Hbf via Düsseldorf Hbf, Leverkusen and Köln Hbf to Köln-Worringen. The S11 drives from Düsseldorf Airport via Düsseldorf Hbf, Neuss Hbf, Köln Chorweiler and Köln Hbf to Köln Mülheim and Bergisch Gladbach. The ICE's, IC's, Flixtrains, RE1 and RE5 drives via Leverkussen. The RE6 via Dormagen, supported by the RE7 between Köln Hbf and Neuss Hbf. The S6 take 74 minutes between Düsseldorf Hbf and K-Worringen. The S11 take 74 minutes between Düsseldorf Hbf and K-Mülheim; 88 minutes to Bergisch Gladbach. The RE1 and RE5 take 32 minutes to go from Düsseldorf Hbf to Köln Hbf. The RE6 take 37 minutes to go from Düsseldorf Hbf to Köln Hbf. The RE7 take 31 minutes from Neuss Hbf to Köln Messe/Deutz. The RB48 takes 9 minutes from Köln-Mülheim to Köln Hbf. The ICE's and IC's take 25 minutes between Düsseldorf Hbf and Köln Hbf and 21 minutes to Messe/Deutz. And there are a lot of trains from Köln Hbf to Köln Messe/Deutz, as from Düsseldorf Hbf to Neuss Hbf. This is a very busy loop, and access 200km/h (125 mph) for long-distance trains. The S6 uses the BR422, known from the Rhein-Ruhr Ost route and Hauptstrecke Rhein-Ruhr. The S11 used the BR423 from the New Journeys pack. The RE1, RE5 and RE6 are driven by the BR462 Desiro HC Rhein-Ruhr-Express. The RE7 and RB48 are driven by the BR1442 from National Express. The long-distance trains are driven by the BR401, BR402, BR403, BR406, BR407, BR408, BR409 (Eurostar, former Thalys), BR411, BR412, BR415 and Flixtrain. The BR462 is a required train to be built for the route. The BR1442 a redesign. The BR412 is welcome. The BR407 and BR408 can be replaced by the ICE3(M).
There is someone using PC Editor making at least part of this route. See here: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/route-köln-düsseldorf-opladen.78803 There seems to be a suggestion that DTG may have taken him on as a 3rd party developer but no official announcement yet.
