I doubt many, due to public pressure and the press which are always complaining about the age of rolling stock and always want new trains yesterday - if not, sooner.

Having said that, Sprinters are getting on for 40 and there appear to be no plans to replace them - the first class 150s were built in 1984.

Yes they are well made units, I have read various things suggesting the beginning of the end may not be far away for the 150's and the 153's. GWR have cascaded the Networkers into the West Country, South Wales are getting new trains for the Valley lines. I think the North West may be the class 150's last stamping ground.

The 156's and 158's appear to be destined for a longer life.

Northern does seem to be where trains go to die... Maybe Bristol to PNZ as well, but mainly Northern

Maybe they should have listed the locos on the roadmap. I don't see the harm in that

The 150's are currently alive and well in west Cornwall! (Photo taken on Saturday at Truro Station!)

Are they mainly on the branch lines or are the still used on the mainline stoppers too?

I guess they are probably still working Paignton/Exeter/Exmouth services.

Maybe that's something they can do in future rather than having people guess what their intentions are (and having their hopes dashed)

I believe they're still running pacers on those services (maybe fabdiva can assist?)

I can understand, though if they want to keep a particular loco (I'm mainly talking routes here) secret, so it's something of a surprise? Could be a fun idea although i appreciate not everyone will like that.

I was pretty certain that we would get a reskinned class 101 anyway, it just confirmed to my irritation that, that this is the case, unless there is to be another twist. I am surprised there isn't another locomotive included though, unless again it hasn't been announced.

In the route section of the routemap it does state what locos etc are coming with the route, so this would only normalize that

I couldn't ever see that working. If it's two existing locos in a reskin, then it would be incredibly hard to justify a price more than a standard loco pack.

If it was a new loco with some other reskinned locos alongside a new timetable then I'd agree. But that doesn't seem to be the case at current.

Steam achievements for this pack is out and unsurprisingly it looks very underwhelming.

Pacers left GWR in December - planned use finished on the 11th IIRC, there was 1 or 2 out for a couple of days around Christmas but they were shipped of to Landore just before new year.

Depends on how long they want to keep them. The Desiros are pretty well built, and the Electrostars seem to be quite simple in their design which may prove useful in their later years (as was the case with lots of the slam door stock).

Depends on what they are built and specced for*. In any case the 101 were well beyond it, but that was mostly because the privatisation process paused the replacement process. Ideally they should have been gone in the 80s.

*As an example Japan seems to be designing for a 15-20 year life, as they are of the view that technology is progressing fast enough to make the early replacement worthwhile. Conversely Switzerland used to expect 50 years as a minimum.

Yeah, nowadays it's less about how well built the trains are and more about how much technology will make them obsolete.

The 43 "castle class" has taken over the majority of the mainline stopping service. But occasionally one sneaks through!

If only they put them on the Brighton services, standing room only on a two coach 158s isn't much fun, although I think they might have Networker Turbos on the service now.

I thought there was going to be a preview article released about this pack? Something mentioned on the roadmap stream.

When this was first mooted I had high hopes - maybe they would spring a surprise with the Riviera Line and a Class 35, 42 and 52. But just regurgitating old stuff with a new skin or two and charging £11.99 (assuming this is the case) is a no sale for me.

I firmly agree regarding the 117 though the cynic in me has to wonder if DTG had done this, the sounds and cab would still have been aliased to the 101 - sound wise they were a little different being fitted with growly BUT engines as opposed to the more whiny AEC engines on the 101's.

I guess we will see in a few days/weeks.

I suspect you may be right, certainly with the sounds, I would hope that they would model a proper cab, still knowing the general attitude towards DMU's by the train simulator add-on providers I wouldn't be surprised. I think the TS1 versions had the same sounds, the AP packs were bespoke I think, certainly the exhaust rasp on the 117.

The 101 will be the one from TVL or NTP, they haven’t mentioned doing anything with it, we may see it in a new livery.

The BR52 will be rebuilt and given a new livery.

If they are going to be accurate *cough cough* the class 101 should be in all over blue with yellow ends to run in the same period as the Western.

A good few sets were in blue/grey prior to 1977, although ideally they'd do all three liveries from the period.

Yeah that’s what I was getting at, it would also be pretty silly to give us a ‘BR Blue Pack’ that only gives one loco in BR Blue.

At any rate this ‘gameplay’ pack is looking more like a BR52 livery pack.

I really hope they do a good job with the route overhaul, and make use of layers.

Route overhaul? Don't think any changes to the route have been mentioned, it's a 70s pack for GWE.

It would be weird if they don't change anything on the route like giving us the old Reading station ,removing two platforms at Paddington and removing the electrification

Sure it’s an implication, but an obvious one.

I wish good luck to DTG if they plan to sell a ‘gameplay’ pack in which the only new content will be a livery.

I don't really see the point of buying what will effectively be a livery change

Well if it was a realistic collection of 70's rolling stock for the route I would purchase it as it is one of my favourite periods. I don't mind it being a re-livery as that is what it needs to be to be a 70's pack so in that sense it would be worth it for me, even if the route is completely incorrect for the area.

It would need more than cosmetic changes to the route, it would need major infrastructure changes and that won't happen.

Maybe it is a prelude for a more suitable route elsewhere!

I hope that we will be able to come from old common with the 52 or maybe a 47 and couple to the rear of a train and to take that other locomotive back to Old common

I think if dtg remade gwe to how it would be in the 70s with all that infrastructure there would be some people shouting to make gwe in modern day so we could use the GWR Class 800s and 387s along with TFL Rail

Personally would just be disappointed if it was purely a Western Reskin and a 101 reskin.
If they added the 47, 45 etc to this for other services, then that would make it interesting...

if this is just a reskin of a couple of locos then i wont be buying since the livery editor will be coming to the preserved collection routes soon
so basically, DTG is charging for a reskin of a loco, that i could possibly do in the future for free, right?
but, DTG have took a wile to do this 1970s pack, so Im presuming they are going to make some adjustments to the route. Trust me it don't take over a month to reskin maybe Two or Three locos. Get the point!

They're rebuilding the 52, which will be taking a lot of that time, also they've got 4 packs coming out in possibly quite a short time.

From what I remember the one they did for the WSR on TSW 1 wasn't named which was bizarre as the 52s carried nameplates since they was built.
