Thought I'd calculate how much money I've spent on the game since release. Here is everything I bought:

I do have every dlc though (except NEC for TSW2020 and it’s associated content)

 

I bought tsw2020, Tsw2, East Coast Way and West Somerset Railway. I haven't purchased any recently as I wait a while for most bugs to be ironed out before committing. Would love to buy more

 

Honestly, I don‘t want to know. I once calculated how much a train I‘m running on my H0 model layout cost me and that was enough of a shock already

 

Not as much as TS21, only bought select preserved conted when on sale, and only bought the base TSW2 and the Dash 8 and Clinchfield DLCs.

 

I've definitely shot past the 300 quid mark possibly even the 350 quid mark, pretty sure i haven't hit the 400 yet though so no need for therapy and rehab just yet......

 

I have 14 DLCs, but I'm not brave enough to look how much it adds up to.

I honestly cant bring myself to buy any DLC as none of it interests me.

 

It would be hard to calculate, especially since I also bought some content outside of steam and DTG store.
But from tsw2020, all content bought was at discount. Then Tsw2 at release, as well as HMA, IOW, SEHS and the Loco dlc 363, 101 and 465.
So I recon I will have spent some 200 to 300 in it.
But as long that my hours spent are higher than the €, and that I am enjoying it, I am absolutely OK with it!

 

that’s a fair point I’m currently looking at 40 pence per hour so far and price per hour of enjoyment decreasing as time goes on.

I can’t even buy a decent chocolate bar for 40 pence, so I make that great value

 

There is more to life than money- you can’t take it with you when you die.

As long as you keep some savings for emergencies and live within your means then you should never feel bad for spending on things that make you really happy.

 

So far, almost €300 spent on TSW2020 and TSW2 combined, which is pretty good value, considering I've spend over 900 hours so far. Mostly buying DLC on a discount, except for yearly bundles and Arosa Linie :P

 

About £60. TSW 2020...East Coast Way...NTP...Tees Valley. (Think I managed to snaffle NTP during a rare as rocking horse s**t XBox sale). I'm thinking of getting more route DLCs and locos but contemplating whether to continue on TSW 2020 or get TSW2.

 

I can't remember now how much each cost but so far I've bought the TSW2 base game then the Southcoast thing from Brighton to Eastbourne as I used to use that line often when I lived in Eastbourne to the casinos and/or dogs in Brighton; the Transpennine route from Manchester to Leeds via Huddersfield and the one on the Isle of Wight.

 

So I too have all DLC on TSW2 bar 2, I dont like London Underground trains. My issue is time, my last Clinchfield service was 2 hours, when you add the career progression excluding the services there's hundreds of hours. And I find myself moving on to next DLC and rarely go back, not driven the TGV in months, or Javelin since I bought Clinchfield

 

Microsoft reward points for the win! Tsw2 and most of the dlc I own was either 'free' with reward points or heavily discounted. It's basically all I use my reward points for ;P
If I remember correct, I only spent a tenner for tsw2, and never spent more than 15 quid on a dlc. As much as I love this game, I don't play it enough to justify spending 25 quid on each route.
Probably still spent a fair amount in total even with the discounts though, but not nearly as much as it could have been.

On a related note, if I purchase something in the xbox store, and use, for example, 10 pounds worth of reward points, does the developer still recieve the same share of the sale they would get if I just paid every penny myself? Or does Microsoft reduce the amount the developer recieve?

 

I have spent waaay to many money on TSW. Last year I spent €155,- on TSW. I don't want to know how much I spent this year and the year before...

 

I guess it will have cost me somewhere between Euro 0,20 and Euro 0,50 for each hour of gameplay. Not very expensive and a lot not yet played.

 

365€ on TSW 2 Collector edition + 26 DLC (routes and locos included). All in 1 month lol. Also, add the raildriver (bought it just for TSW2) for 270€.

So now i am around 650€. I have 3 or 4 DLC left to buy (waiting for sale). Also gonna probably buy everyhing new, especially because it has RD support.

Very interesting this. DTG can say until they are blue in the face you aren't meant to buy everything, but that isn't how hobbies like this work. Hence the frustration with reused content or what in other hobbies might be called "doubles".

I buy everything half price, so only SEHS was a recent purchase, I found I had almost caught up so have to wait a bit now for things like HMA to get to 50% off

 

Well Steam offers me a button labeled "manage my 30 DLC" ...
BUT as Sam stated in a recent stream: It's a hobby!

And looking at it that way relativates the "number" because buying TSW stuff avoided buying games from other developers. I stopped buying games and piling them up unplayed years ago ... I think in the time I came to TSW ... what a coincedence!

So I kind of found my (gaming-)destiny?

(My wife is kept happy with regular dinners and knowing her husband is sitting in front of his computer with his silly "lever-machine" being harmless and always returning happy ;-) )

 

I only spent €12 (£10) on TSW2 on a discount. And after what I got, I'm definitely not going to buy any additional DLC.

Honestly, I regret even the little money I spent, because bugs and flaws ruin all the fun and completely destroy the immersion on each of the three routes included in the TSW2 base package. I'm a bit disappointed.

BTW: I've been buying some new software for eight-bit computers recently, and I was surprised to find that in the 21st century it is possible to release a product that will work properly on a launch day! I suppose that when selling a game on floppy disks or on cassette tapes, they cannot release patches every month, so they have to write the code once and properly

 

Finally, a post that adds a modicum of sense to this thread. One could just as well try to calculate the amount of money spent on any hobby or activity -- so what?

 

About €400 (£330) or so.
It might seem like a lot but if I compare all the times I have spent that amount of money on things that have not given me any satisfaction with all the hours of entertainment and fun that TSW has given me, I come to the conclusion that it has been money very well spent

 

actually looked at my hours on tsw2020 - currently looking at 33p per hour so far

 

How much i spent? answer is every DLC to TSW1 and 2

 

Supporter since the beginning of TSW, got all the DLC, now and then a 10% discount but always day one buyer.
Steam says 810,64€ but I think it's around 750€.

 

No idea on the numbers but I've bought all of the British Content and that's it

 

Over 200€... I only regreat buying HMA and SEHS...

 

I suppose £260 over 3 years or whatever, works out at about 25p a day, which considering I'm still using everything I've purchased regularly represents fantastic value....

 

I reckon I've spent £160 on base games + DLC from when I first bought TSW2 5 months ago but some of that is catching up on things that were released years ago. Looking at the number of hours of enjoyment I've had from that I consider it to be a very good value for money hobby.

I have only bought/will buy select DLCs, firstly because not everything interests me and secondly I just wouldn't have time to play it all, I like to get my money's worth out of things!

I have every route and loco except the DB 204 and the Class 52 for WSR (I have the 52 in Diesel Legends pack, seems a bit redundant to buy it again)
So a lot of money haha
But not going to take the time to add it all up (might be a bit depressing)
But hey, when you love trains... (and I like all regions, mixing it up between freight, switching, high speed, commuter is what helps keep the game fresh for me)

Bought a lot of DLCs and, unfortunately, only very few of them at the Playstation sale. I own the GWE, RT, RSN, MSB, PC, RRO, ECW, HRR, IOW, HMA, LGV, SEHS, ARL, CRR and HBL routes as well as the BR 101, BR 155, BR 182, BR 204, BR 363, Class 465/9 and MP36PH-3C locos. Considering also buying the C40-8W and the Class 313 (when it comes out).

I think that sums it up perfectly!

I was looking at the amount of DLC content I own, and thought "that's quite a lot of money I've spent" but then I don't drink, I don't smoke, very rarely go out anywhere, and rarely eat takeaways... All the bills are paid on time, my family are fed and clothed, so why shouldn't I spend my spare cash on a past-time I enjoy?

 

Very good thinking! That's my justification also for things i enjoy. Money has to circle around

BTW - with yesterday sale I bought every DLC on TSW2. Now my list is complete.

Probably in the region of £250 to £300, though most of the stuff I have bought during sales. Only routes I paid full price for are NTP and Clinchfield which were certainly worth the money.

TOO MUCH, based on the level of frustration dealing with stupid bugs that reduce the advertised realism of the game to a level of no desire to even play! What's the point when you constantly have to deal with bugs that "could" be fixed..........

 

I only bought 3 additional routes, maybe around € 90 in total. I won't buy more like this, because DovetailGames excludes any renewal for the future or invents excuses. The innovation of the last 5 years by DovetailGames was almost a hangover, nothing was added on feature. Only new routes and trains are still being built.

 

I have all the DLC + NEC

 

A lot less in comparison to TS202x!
Got to of spent thousands upon thousands on that game, yet alone the cost of dedicated hardware, since the game came out many moons ago.

TSW2 wise, much less as i tend to only go with British Routes.
I have all the UK stuff (including Loco DLC) since having it from the start.
Some non-UK DLC i have purchased on the off chance. A few that i wish i had the ability to refund like Arosa!
