Hello, so i've been working on my own route but i do not seem to understand how to make a tunnel eventhough there are many posts about it... Can someone explain it to me? Thanks in advance!
Essentially you need to know how to cut holes in your landscape for the tunnel to pass through and then how to construct tunnel splines, which is easier than it sounds because they are provided for in the editor. This tutorial is for UE5 but it will give you an idea of what is involved although I don’t think you will need to actually build the spline tunnel from scratch. Bear in mind I have used splines myself for building road and river layouts but have not actually ventured into tunnel building so far. EDIT: See my post further down for a simple way of attaching a tunnel to the tracks....
Thanks for the video! Now i understand how to make tunnels but is there a easier way to make tunnels instead of those small splinepoints? Is there a way to attach those points to the tracks?
I hadn't tried this myself until today but there is a very easy way to attach a tunnel to the tracks. Go to Network Edit Mode / Offset Loft Tool. Under Tool Settings click on the dropdown for Offset Spline and type "tunnel" in the Search field. Go right down this filtered list to the BPC_ tunnels and select, for example, BPC_Tunnel_01_2T_C. Then click on your tracks (left hand track if there are two) to lay down a marker where you want the tunnel to start, click again further down the track where it should end and you should have a ready made section of concrete tunnel which exactly follows the track curves. I had to experiment with the Loft Offset Distance X to get the tunnels exactly centred on the tracks. A value of 200 got me very close. While the track markers are still visible you can play with the above X distance setting and select different tunnel BPCs from the list until you find the most suitable size and construction without having to delete and start again.
