Oh now let me be clear thats how it works! I was not mean at all... If you go to the supermarket they also try to convince you to buy the best products so DTG is a friendly company that have to live from money :)

£8.99 a month. Good luck with that "you will own nothing and be happy" thievery. No doubt, if you don't have a subscription, no updates to follow.

My personal two cents on this; I have been playing TSC for a very long time. Probably over a decade now. I have everything I could want for TSC and don’t see anything being released in the future that would make me want to open my wallet. And even still, the subscription model is completely optional which means that IF something were to be released that I wanted to get, I could. Without needing to pay monthly for it. So in the end, this announcement affects me in no way whatsoever, as it shouldn’t for most people who have been TSC users for a while now. I would imagine that if it were to come over to the TSW franchise as well, which currently is a relatively small possibility especially given the fact that people like Matt and JD have both said on here that they’re really not interested in a subscription model for TSW. And if that were the case, it would probably be very similar to the TSC one. So I really don’t see a need to worry about this.

Let’s not gather on the main deck and head for the life boats just yet…

Even the Trainz subscription gives people access to all content for reasonable prices.
Paradox subscription gives access to all content for a given game. older games can have several hundreds of dollars worth of dlc you only have to pay 5 usd bucks a month
DCS world, base game is free with a wide selection of aircraft and the original og map. Great for new players to try with a zero dollar investment.
DTG nah non of the above.
A subscription is not a terrible thing if you have the amount of content DTG or Trainz has. but of course DTG does not do the reasonable thing and give you access to most of it via subscription, nope you get only a few routes and locos.

i dont see the issue, its their 15th anniversary, lighten up. Nothing has changed and the game is still updated for free. They've always offered bundles like this as a side for people who might want the bundled content or for new players.

What are you talking about? They are offering an optional subscription service which is very good value for money if you're a vanilla TSC player and dont want to commit to buying DLC. Do you remember the phenomenon of renting movies and games from blockbuster or alike? What about netflix? Why do you have to inject this "you will own nothing and be happy" nonsense? It's not that deep.

Complete nonsense. Following that logic, I should accuse my landlord I'm paying the rent for my flat to of thievery.

Just as I want to keep the option to easily move to another place, there might be players interested in playing some TSC routes without purchasing them and maybe play something else later on. Not everyone's a collector.

Curiously the subscription price only appears in UK £'s. Does that mean it's only available to UK players or can we choose our own exchange rate? ;)

If they are rotating that DLC at a certain frequency though, its still good value.

It's not theft as I am agreeing to it. That's the point.

It's not interesting to me, but might be to others. For casual players a subscription can be a better deal. Just like leasing a car.

I mean... it's a pretty apt term when you look at rents in this country. I've met folks who bought two houses and the rent on one covers the mortgages on both.

When you go to the cinema you're watching a movie. When it's over, it's gone - and with it your money. Thievery?

Someone might want to pay only 9 pounds instead of 30 and enjoy a month of playing TSC - maybe to find themselves attracted into making purchases - or to never play it again once they've driven up and down a route for a few times. I can't see the issue - it's an option. Do you understand the meaning of option? I really think there's people who see no point in keeping a route they've explored already. Done all scenarios, what now? Next route please.

If I could, I would sell GOBLIN because there's nothing more to do on this route for me. All timetable services are the same duplicates. No matter how nice the route is done - its replay value for me is zero.

Sometimes it's more rational to lease something than to purchase, depending on your preferences. A company offering both is doing nothing wrong.

And as opposed to an existential place to live - be it rented or own property - we're talking about a luxury good, entertainment stuff. Which would not exist if we hadn't capitalism and free market, where there's offer and demand.

And all that DTG is doing is making more offers for different customers. The way so many threads have spawned can only be explained by a fear of losing something despite being told otherwise... making drama out of nothing imho.

We got a lot of options, we can pay the price we want by waiting for sales, or even get a massive HumbleBundle deal, we can play the game for a month, whatever we like. Still people don't realise the luxury they're living in, and try to find something to get upset about - that's my impression.

Life's too short to waste more thoughts on the topic. I can notice an offer, say "nah, thanks" and move on.

As I just posted in the TSC forum, I suspect this is being driven by Focus Entertainment as a means of improving the revenue stream. In which case a similar “service” will almost certainly come to TSW at some point.

So long as they leave existing owners as is, if the subscription model suits some customers so be it. However look no further than N3V and Trainz to see where this could lead. TRS2022 subscribers get a more up to date version and additional features which are withheld from those (like me) who bought the conventional version. Just because they say there is no change to existing owners doesn’t mean a year or two down the road they won’t think about extending the concept. This is not the most ethical or honest of companies as we know all too well from the history of TSW!

Ultimately I have enough content in TSC and TSW to keep me going for years and that’s before the endless gameplay that Run 8 and the various truck sims. So if at any point DTG do slam the door in preference to subscribers then it will be their loss, not mine.

As long as it remains optional, I see no problem but of course it could be the start of a very slippery path, if ever a TSW version becomes subscription only then I for one will be out and will not subscribe, ever!

That's the point of a subscription. You have one, you get access to things and perks. You don't have one, you lose everything.

The subscription really needs to include all previous DLC from the get-go, otherwise the layering "experience" will suffer. Like Game Pass, they also need to include the latest releases day-and-date for there to be full value. Imagine the disappointment of subscribing for the release of a much anticipated route, only to find it's not included in the subscription.

This is just basically the TSC version of gamepass, they give you a chunk of dlc's in the subscription for a while and if you like them and want to keep playing you then will be able to buy them as they will cycle through various loads of content, probably with a discount too. It's really not that complicated.....

It would be a way better idea if you could actually choose a set of routes you want and be able to change it every month, instead of a curated selection that may only be attractive for a small number of players. Something like the Xbox Game Pass, but for TS(C/W), with maybe special variants for regions or countries?

The subscription really is only going to be useful for beginners. I can guarantee that almost everything that will ever be included in it will be something I already own, so there will never be a reason for me to buy it. Not that I would pay £8.99 for it anyway; I don't want to have limited access to DTG DLC which is not that good anyway. There's a reason I already wait for individual TS DLC to be £3 or less before I buy it.
