And I understand they don't want more people buying the game by doing so. In games targeted mainly for multiplayer (but also having some single player) I need to try everything solo first, before I decide to join an MP game. Generally in the past that's been the case for strategy or building/sandbox/survival games, but I guess I have much the same feelings for simulation games, too. I'm based in Poland, I'd love to play on a Polish route in a modern sim, but I won't be buying the game until there's some more single player content, whether it's many more driving scenarios, inclusion of dispatcher scenarios or a full timetable, as also pausing and saving/reloading the game. Well, they won't be getting money from me, before there's more single player content in their game. When the EN57 releases, I'll see if they included some SP scenarios for it. If not, I'll go back to MaSzyna.
So when do we reckon the EN57 is likely to drop, then? Will it be free to owners of the original game or available as a DLC?
Well, in the interests of being magnanimous I decided to fire it up for a little session. EN2 Server was actually empty of live players (a signaller briefly appeared 150km away but went off again). Picked up an EC train with an EU08 electric loco. And yes, the driving experience is superb - the sounnds, the motion really cannot be faulted. Just how on earth do I then pick up another train later on in the same area as I left off, so I can see the whole of the route? This is where having a decent single player timetable, with a save, would come in handy. Ideally I want to start at Warsaw and work across the routes, but there is no way of absolutely guaranteeing that at present.
Yes I found the link yesterday evening. It’s a great help and should be hotlinked from or integrated in the game, IMHO. A couple of further observations after a second session yesterday evening, picking up a train in Warsaw. The game struggles in built up areas, lots of jerks and pauses. My PC is an old potato but TSC and TSW run well enough. Possibly connected to server latency but I was on EN2 and no one else was active. Despite the focus on multiplayer which seems to be used as the reason to hold back single player and a save game, most of the servers seemed to be empty or only held a few people. So after the initial period seems MP not as popular as might be believed. I had a quick go on the Pendolino but for some reason after stopping, applying the throttle does nothing and the train won’t move. Any suggestions, was wondering if I also need to set a cruise control speed? The inactivity warning is still a bit quick to kick in. I was sat there trying to figure out how to get the Pendolino moving and before I had a chance to work things out, the bot took over.
They say that the fuel in tank cars is going to influence the process of driving in terms of physics....
Had another run yesterday evening. EN2 was dead again, apart from one signaller briefly many km away I was the only person on there for the best part of an hour. I really feel they need to rethink the priority being given to multiplayer and focus on the single player aspect. Perhaps the Polish and German servers are slightly busier but still hardly justifies the focus on MP. Give us the full timetable in SP and the ability to act as signaller in SP, excellent way to train on some of the busier signal boxes. With a decent save game, of course. . And performance is dreadful. Even away from Warsaw out in the countryside I was getting stutter and pauses every few seconds - worse than TSW. If another train passed the screen would freeze for a couple of seconds. I absolutely see the potential in SimRail but IMHO they need to address the performance issues and have a major rethink of their target audience. As I said, even Run 8 realised after their initial launch that the core of the game needs to be a solid SP experience.
No stutters at all. Simrail has much better performance than TSW in terms of stuttering. Frankly can not understand what bad performance you are talking about. This is a bit FPS drop for a short peace of time in Warsaw area and that is all. The real champion in "the stuttering nomination" is TSW.
For performance huge increase for me was to drop textures one notch down. I have almost zero stutters now. Only drops on huge stations like Warsaw. EN1 is always busy when I play. Usually after midday to evenings. Other EN servers are less populated.
Vern, have a look in your graphics settings. The default texture resolution is massive. I dropped it to 1/2 scale and the stuttering went away completely.
Sure I'd done that previously but I'll check later on, maybe it got reset with an update as it's been some months since I played it.
Update: Checked settings last night and textures are already set at 1/2, so not sure where the bottleneck is. Maybe I’ll try a server with a faster ping or do a test in the limited SP mode.
No all mechanical drives but like I say apart from the known stutters with TSW, that generally runs far smoother. Which is why I’ve got a suspicion it might be server linked, even though I was the only player. Will see if I can get on EN1 or one of the German/Polish servers later and if it makes a difference.
OldVern, what graphic card you have ? Maybe try locking the framerate on 30fps or 60fps, should help a little bit. But if your using the HDD, I think it would be better to switch on SSD.
With that setup. I would drop settings to lowest and then work you way up. You really need better gfx card.
Probably bottlenecked by the CPU which is an I7 4770 plus 400 watt PSU might be pushing it for a RTX card. Still strange that TSW which generally has more detail and much longer draw distance performs much better.
I have GTX 1080 and I run both TSW and SR on SSD. TSW - Stable 60fps, SimRail - 40-45fps.... So I don't think that GPU is here at fault but not so good optimization.... OldVern in any case I would invest in the SSD, now they are not so expensive and they are a lot faster than HDD
At the beginning I had the game on HDD and then I switched to SSD there is a big difference between the two. Stuttering completely gone. And only the EN1,DE1,PL1 servers are worth playing on because there are almost always quite a lot of people up there especially in the afternoon/evening. I5-10400F 32GB DDR4 3200mhz GTX 1660 6GB Max settings, all shadows boost on and 1/2 texture. 40-60 FPS
Seemed to be a bit better on EN1. Anyhow only fair to say I just had a very pleasant session on there. Everyone nice and friendly, lots of comms going on between drivers and signallers. I’ve made it from Warsaw to Psary now over several sessions, back in the old stamping ground of the beta/play test. I wonder if we will ever get any diesel locos and of course the promised steam engine?
EN1 is usually a very nice place, haven't had that many issues lately. I guess most people playing the game are the more hardcore simmers. The steam engine is in production and has been showed to us a few times, so I'm sure we can expect that soon enough. I think a lot of the difficulty lies in the realism and how to control on the pc. I know the team is having some difficulty with the new key system they are implementing. Let's hope the update will be there soon so we can enjoy loads of new stuff!
I didn’t realise until I picked up a train yesterday evening that the line down from Psary to Krakow is now also fully represented. Presumably added some time after release. Anyhow another nice late evening session on EN1. However I’m still having issues with traction lock on a couple of the trains after releasing the brakes. Previously the Pendolino, then last night with the Traxx freight loco. Applied brakes to come to a stand, when the signal cleared couldn’t get power. Tried setting a speed on the cruise control but did not help. Had to briefly activate autopilot to get moving and avoid annoying the despatcher, before taking control again. Any suggestions what I’m doing wrong please?
The line from Psary to Krakow is only made until Tunel, but it will extend to Krakow in an update. Not sure if it will be next update already. The team also made some missing links available in the Katwice area, always nice as more lines means more variation. I can't help you with the pendo OldVern as I never drive that myself, but in the case of the Traxx it could be that your brakes aren't fully released yet? Especially with freight trains it can take a while (as it is in real life), that's why it is always good to release the brakes as soon as you stand still and use the loco brake to keep the train from moving. If you have issues like that don't be scared to tell the active dispatcher, if needed he can recall the signal or try to help you. Most people are nice enough for that. Communication is key, just like the real world.
Hi Vern. The line from Psary to Tunel Junction was added a good while ago and will go all the way to Krakow shortly. This, and several other lines (Lodz being one I can think of...) are being tested. As for the traction lock, the power handle has to be right back at 0. On the Pendolino, pressing num - and then again (until a click can be heard) will do the job. The brake also must be fully released. The Traxx is the same, power FULLY off and reset, with brakes released. Or of course, activate the bot for a second, as you alluded to.
sry for my bad grammer but it might be the brake mode the default traxx have, and you can switch the brake mode to p or r on the left screen, the same as the german loconotive, it will give you a faster release
Someone on the discord gave some tips for performance improvements as well, might not work for everyone. We can hope that thse things will not matter once the game fully releases out of EA
I've implemented most of that. Also noticed I had Vsync off, not sure what the difference is between single and double but have gone with single for now. It is quite possible (as happened to me with Run 8) the game was chasing an impossible FPS target. So we'll see how it goes.
And if you look at the first two pictures you can see that it looks like autumn in the game. It is likely that the seasons will be included in the big update
TBH, for me it looks more like a spring. Leaves are small and green, instead of big and yellow/orange/brown.
Seasonal effects would be great, hopefully on the to do list at some point. After my couple of evenings driving, I really need to look at getting back into the signalling side. However think I'll pick one of the dead servers (like CN1) to practice that!
There is EU3 which is good, built for learning and making mistakes. It is an international server with no moderation, which resets every 4 hours (if you get too jumbled up)! Server lists and players therein... - https://map.simrail.app/
And next simulation of the EN57 under seat heating melting shoe soles of the passengers. They were usually turned up to 11 between autumn and spring, at least in 90's and 00's.
these will be in the next update: EN57 New livery (Cargounit) ETCS LVL 2 New weather system Refreshed vegetation Seasons New stations (dispatch points) Gamepad support And many improvements

if I understand correctly, shunting works, steam locomotive, Krakow route, mechanical signal box, single player, will we get these before they stop developing the game?
