Searchlight Simulations was out gathering references and such with the CPKC Holiday train for their Simrail route.
Those are photos from inside of the loco where they were taken in real world, likely not related to what's going to be in SimRail in the nearest future (but who knows, maybe sometime later).
Nah, that's just image compression artifacts. Renders would look more like the image of the loco from outside posted earlier.
The cab is rendered, as stated in the Facebook post from SimRail. Hamburg is just put in the background as real world photo.
No it is about the rendered cab not about the scenery. No cheating, just your interpretation. And if the cab looks real to you or others with that background it just shows how nicely it has been done. Besides the renders are done by a new 3rd party developer from Czech.
It depends on your point of view, there are even simulators that use the real world for the screen in simulation, but the simulation is not that accurate. Japanese Rail Sim: Journey to Kyoto also uses the Unity engine. If you want to see it for yourself, there is a demo on Steam. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1761290/Japanese_Rail_Sim_Journey_to_Kyoto/
Well, the 163 bumped Simrail up to number 1 on my wishlist. Looking at recent video footage, the game looks amazing. How is the singleplayer content as of the latest patch?
The old saying: "If it is too good to be true ..." But the SimRail development sure deserves an attentive eye. If these guys are smart (and I think they are), they come up with the console versions after leaving the Early Access stage.
I hope they will not deal with the console version cause it might bring serious limitations in the game likewise the poor TSW has.
I would imagine what has so many people excited about Simrail is the fact that it's going to be the first true competitor to the TSW franchise. If it weren't to be put onto consoles, it would just... not be a TSW competitor? Because TSW would continue to have a monopoly on the PlayStation/Xbox market that DTG claims is 2/3 of their entire playerbase. Literally every single train simulation game ever made has been exclusive to PC. And you want ANOTHER one to do exactly that? I mean there are literally thousands of games that can be played on both consoles and PC. It seems silly to say that having a console version of a game is automatically going to make the PC version worse. I imagine that a good developer would allow the respective platforms to utilize their strengths in their versions of the game.
Simrail isn't trying to be a competitor to TSW, it is a different sim entirely, with MP and signaling. This perceived competition thing is purely in the minds of a few. SimKol doesn't need the game to be a huge success, the PC sim market isn't their main income. This is exactly what has happened with TSW though, it would be a good thing if there were 2 distinct products (PC and Console versions) that took advantage of greater hardware capabilities, but there aren't. I do hope that SimKol release a specific 'console' version of Simrail, if they decide to go down that route.
For sure a developer typically wouldn’t dare to make a game for the purpose of trying to out-do another game. But I mean when you look at it, it’s hard to NOT imagine it being a worthy competitor! Not many other train games out there that feature a full 24 hour timetable and also allow the player to explore the map on foot! It is most definitely a different game, but it does seem to be inspired by some parts of other games. And yeah of course I hope the console version of Simrail doesn’t weigh down the potential of the PC version, or some parts of the PC version being added to the consoles to make it a worse experience there. Like the console version should be set to certain specs that’ll provide the best possible experience on console, while the PC version has various settings to choose from while also having mod support and an editor and whatever else!
Currently on sale for just under £12 so I bought it. It may use Unity but the train driving graphics is via a FMV video clip which as we know has severe limitations- no diurnal lighting, no seasons or weather and every run has the same trains passing at the same location. No views other than the forward one from the cab. It is quite good though if a bit clunky and of course it nags you in classic Japanese style! Your timekeeping needs to be spot on and you need to pretty much hit the marker dead on when you stop. The routes, which is actually one line with a short branch, are actually quite short so once everything is unlocked not sure how much replay value there is. One to dip into now and again for a quick blast. So for £11.75 yes, very good, but no way on this planet would I consider it worth the full asking price of nearly £50.
I personally hope they don't make a console version. Hard to say but I feel when Dovetail started making it for consoles then I started to lose interest for that one. (haven't bought TSW 4) PCs are much more competent than consoles. Know they have made adjustments. Short trains in some consoles and longer trains in pc and newer consoles. But on the whole, I'm afraid that PC will have to adapt to the worst consoles. I really love Simrail as it is now. and I see enormous development potential in it.
SimRail don’t seem to have issues getting full access to obtain details and sound recordings. Maybe they just ask nicely… Anyhow when do we reckon the ET22 pack will launch and what the likely cost will be? So much to buy in the next few weeks, then trying to find time to play it all!
I think the simrail devs having created a real world simulator that real drivers use, they are more likely to get access. Or the train companies are just nice and friendly and there's no rules or regulations restricting them
In principle, there will be a update this December with the promised things (ETCS, dispatch posts, etc.) and when the game is released in full version, then the DLC will be released price unknown. Someone on the DC server has confirmed that the update is scheduled for December this year, so it is possible that the update will be released before the winter sale. US DLC: Minneapolis-La Crosse, 223KM (in case someone does not already know). iconic swing bridge is part of the route :
140 miles! Now that's a valuable DLC. I can't wait! For me, DTG have long crossed a line demanding €35.99 for their short routes, that are released full of bugs. If you're paying full price for TSW DLC, then you can't be helped imho. And I bet their sales figures would improve if they kept DLC to a limit of €20. Look what you get in ETS2 for that price.
Absolutely this. Obviously we don’t know how much it will cost but that is cussing marvellous. Over to DTG how they are going to beat that!
Not in SP and nothing specific on their roadmap unfortunately. Won’t stop me getting the ET22 pack and the American route but it is an ongoing source of frustration for those of us who want a better SP experience.
Impressive in the future they might as well use the same bodyshell and modified the cab turning it into Deutsche Reichsbahn Baureihe 230 DB Baureihe 180 CD 371/372
The high speed in rail transport under 3kV DC is an issue also in Italy. The first modern Italian high speed line, DD Rome-Florence, gradually opened from 1977, is capable to reach 300 km/h, but for this exercise 3kV DC is not the ideal system. To reach 300 km/h an EMU o a high speed loco needs about 3000 Amps or higher value, fed by a heavier overhead wire. The electric line needs double wires for track, equipped with more copper transversal section, sustained by a big metal portal (instead of the standard M and LS poles) placed every 50 meters. The transformers in substations must have a power plate output of at least 5.4 MWs. To feed these substations are necessary two 3-phase lines carriying 132 kV AC. You can understand we are at the border of the unsustainability with this type of traction, thus when the other high speed lines were built in Italy, also to comply the Trans European Network Agreement, our governments chose the 25 kV AC traction and bought newer dobule-quadruple system trains. DD Rome-Florence is capped to 250 km/h to save heavy maintenance, and the vehicles must not exceed 2500 Amps of absorbed current. In this photo you can see the overhead system of this line:
Wonder when the ET22 pack will actually release and the likely price? Must admit dabbling in the Japanese sims and TSC, have rather neglected SimRail the last couple of months.
Thats the reason why in the Netherlands and Belgium the HS line is equipped with 25kv instead of 1,5kv NL and 3kv Belgium
If only SR came with a robust singleplayer I'd be right there. It just looks soooo much better than TSW.
The ongoing dilemma. They could make a real killing by having more scenarios of even a Quick Drive feature where you pick the consist and where you want to start. And the save game or checkpoints of course. But at present on the fence about whether or not to get the ET22.
There are some hints for upcoming editor. Scripts can be created by using LUA scripts, for which documentation will be in English. Scenarios will also be uploaded to the Steam Workshop and integrated into the game by one click. I find this way much better than any kind "Creators club"
Correct because commercial version is used by the Polish Railways as Simkol instead of using a computer they use a locomotive cab
Many good things here Shunting operations, save game, new route to Krakow and Todz ETCS 3+ Dresden route and Usa Route Train editor (Not route editor...)
That is quite promising. What's also needed is some sort of quick drive feature where you can choose your start and end points plus consist. But the save/checkpoint feature will be a game maker for me.
It's good they promise a save game and a 40% discount... I decided to grab it now.. I am not interested in multiplayer, but with the game save it may be an interesting game to play.
