Certainly struggling! Not sure what the gradient is there but my train in the game was about the same weight, 2500 tonnes.

Well the quintessential problem with MP raises it's head again. The only ET22 run I could find on EN1 was approaching Lazy. On a section of line with VMax 50 km/h. Then shuffled off to the slow/goods line with no more than 20 to 30 km/h Vmax. Finally get out on the main line, only for the next signalbox ahead to be leading down to a red. Covered 15 km/h in 34 minutes before calling it a day.

The ET22 is great but being confined to freight which constantly gets shafted by both the AI and live signallers is getting tedious...

Tried a different server? New content is quickly occupied in MP, everybody wants to drive them :)

I'll see what's about on the others, the other issue as already discussed is quite often what is available ends up with you driving the same short stretch of the 400km route!

Maybe in the future there will be some ways, not only in single player scenarios, to haul with it passenger trains. I watched I think on Tuesday a stream (by mojdzienwkade), where ET22 hauled broken EU07 with a passenger consist in multiplayer (on PL3 server). However this consist was specially prepared for the stream purposes by the developers for the streamer. With single player it probably can be already possible to create such consists and scenarios, but I don't have ET22 to check that.

While nothing new to show, it does seem nice that Searchlight Simulations has a very good relationship with CP/CPKC in order to develop their route for SimRail.

IMHO before focusing on consoles they need to finish delivering on features for the PC version, the improved single player game, save game/checkpoints and a user friendly scenario editor.

Their publisher probably demands more cash flow to further finance SimRail's development.
And SimRail probably needs to be simplified, reduced in size and with less CPU/GPU demand for the consoles.
Consoles kill serious simulation games as TSW has proven.
So we'll see what the priorities are.

If what DTG was saying was true about consoles being 2/3rd of all sales, they cannot afford not to release it on consoles. Well, I'll buy it. But, it seems they are contracting out the porting to take IT studio. That seems like a very small company and I hope they are up to the challenge in both porting and later fixing bugs.

Well after the continuing disappointment with TSW - the latest roadmap and declarations about where the priorities lie - found the faith this morning, came to my senses and reinstalling SimRail along with a repurchase of the ET22 cargo pack.

So where is Simrail up to? Multi player and Signalling I am aware of, is there AI traffic, timetables etc or is it a random openworld with players dropping in, I may take a punt in the sales seeing as TSW is offering nothing of note.

The multiplayer services are timetabled, with bots running the services until you jump in and take a train over. The non player controlled services run all day, every day. There are 3 server resets a day for now.

You can see who is online and what's where on any patricular server by looking on SimRail - Map

The devs have recently released a freight DLC with lines to Lodz and Krakow coming up very soon.
Personally, I like both Simrail and TSW, especially running TSW in VR, an absolute game changer.

The single player game still leaves much to be desired and the lack of being able to save is still an issue. But TBH finding a quiet server and dropping in for a quick 45 minute drive was quite satisfying and I feel vindicated reinstalling and then buying the ET22 cargo pack.

I will wait for the sales, probably a summer sale due so probably get it then, just Completed Resident Evil village last night. Thats normally when I dabble in Train Sim between games such as that, zero motivation to fire TSW or TSC up.

I’m currently juggling various games too. Snowrunner, ATS and ETS2 as well as the train sims. Also got FSX fired up, mainly because I can put a long haul flight on while I try and read the first Wheel Of Time book, 800 pages and only got a couple of weeks left before it needs to go back to library!

Yes I would definitely say wait for a sale. Hopefully by then the ET22 will have been out long enough to also attract a small discount.

What's Multiplayer like for lag? I have 150mb broadband at the moment and have been offered 900mb by my ISP but wondered if its worth bothering with?

Can be a bit of an issue when other trains pass you, but it’s much smoother now than the early days. I would go so far as to say less insidious than the juddering and rubber banding you get (including sounds) on some TSW routes like BML or the remastered LIRR.

    Some personal gripes and questions:
    • My keyboard is a tenkeyless style with no numpad (necessary as I use a Corsair K63 lapboard) which makes the game a challenge as a whole bunch of keys have to be remapped manually, with no option for alternative mappings (not sure where we are on controller support, I will reinstall and check).
    • The game needs a single player timetable which would theoretically allow an SP server to run on a user's PC. Why isn't this an option from the outset?
    • WTF are the developers doing messing about with consoles when the game is still feature-incomplete? This same policy for TSW set back its development 5 years and has curbed much-needed improvements on some routes due to console limitations (e.g. L2B).
    • Is there a public editor still on the horizon that allows full cooking and doesn't lock 3rd parties into Simrail's own DLC distribution (à la TSW)?

All good questions and sadly the developers do seem to have become rather evasive or plain silent about where some of these features have gone or if they are still in active development.

However that doesn't take away that what we currently get, within the limitations of having to use a MP server, is pretty darn good!

I did not know anything about SimRail being developed for consoles. That is a right kick in the nuts for pc players. Considering they kept the game alive with early access for a game originally sold as SimRail 2021. Now 3 years later still in early access and far from in a complete state.

Looks...interesting... but I don't see any diesel and just Polish track?
Eh..... I think I'll stick to TSW for now.
Maybe they'll come out with some better DLC and iron out some more bugs.
Looks really nice if you're looking for a multiplayer electro-loco experience.

They are making a German dlc and searchlight is making a us route. Since the routes are massive, they will take a really long time to release.

Just had a quick blast in the "classeightysicz" EU07 electric loco. Here are a few thoughts:
    Good:
    • Graphics engine - lovely smoothness and very little pop in puts TSW (UE4) utterly to shame. That's on default (medium) settings with my GPU (RTX3090Ti), FPS is capped at 60. Lack of an HDR option is, in 2024, disappointing however (like TSW).
    • Audio - is also excellent.
    • Passenger system seems an improvement on TSW. They get on and off without fuss and none appear suicidal or prone to superhero lift offs.
    Not so good:
    • Tutorial control highlights - yellow surround is very difficult to see, TSW is much easier in this respect.
    • Tutorial voiceovers - they would do well to hire a native English speaker to help with clarity. It's not quite "My hovercraft is full of eels" levels, but some phrases are a wee bit lost in translation.
    • Camera system - seems somewhat inflexible and unintuitive. Again TSW is better in this regard.
    • Controller support - works but has limitations. The brake (left bumper/trigger) is ass about face compared to TSW, the throttle is thankfully more intuitive.
    • Single player is utterly lifeless, missing the essential timetabled traffic for a fulfilling experience.
Bottom line, I'll be back in a couple of years to see if things have improved, but for now it'll be uninstalled.

Just because it's on console and that one game does a terrible job doesn't mean every other game that exists in console is terrible. How can you judge when it's not even out yet

I think you missed my point, which is that I do not understand why convert a feature-incomplete game still essentially in PC beta to console at this early stage? The message that comes across is "All you PC users who invested in early access and helped support the game can now just hang fire another year or two for all those promised features such as single player and PC editor, whilst we cash grab from the console market". Nothing against consoles, it just seems premature considering the state of the game.

It’s worth persevering. The single player at present as discussed is pretty much bare bones, just take it as tutorial to understand the basics. Though ironically when you drop in a train in MP you don’t have to do any of that setting up stuff. Do agree the tutorials could be arranged better and what you need to do shown more clearly.

Many of us, myself included, have had something of a love/hate relationship with it since release. At one point I even uninstalled and refunded the ET22 but utter disillusionment with TSW brought me back and currently on a bit of a roll with it.

And yes, I think even the most ardent fans of it currently have raised eyebrows about the rush to a console conversion. TBH I’m surprised it’s even being contemplated with a game this complex.

That console conversion is probably done under pressure from their publishing house, their investors, obviously having a big say in how they want to see their investment returned.

I too regret the desire to release a complex simulation like this on consoles, this will always lead to removal of features, decrease in route length, reduction of complexity etc to make the game fit under the thumbsticks and in the consoles limited resources.
And then there is this rule over everything by Sony and Microsoft's release teams and sales managers ...

So we'll have to wait and see where this leads to, and whether the promised non-Poland DLC will materialize.
I haven't invested that much in SimRail, and will not do so unless I am certain it is getting developed in the direction I'd like it to see.

I can certainly recommend the EN1 server at present, @2100 in the evening if you want a lovely run in the twilight of dusk.

More worrying though is what appears to be a significant drop off in numbers. At one point, the EN1 used to be 75% full with drivers and signallers. Yesterday evening there were only 18 drivers out of a total capacity of 78 and less than 10 signallers out of a possible 34. The Polish servers seemed busier but many of the auxiliary servers such as EN2, EN3 had hardly anyone on them.

So another reason why they need to make the SP game better and add a save. Already had a slight spat with the wife the other night doing an EN57 run. Wanted me to come and check something in the bathroom (not what you might be thinking!) but wouldn’t accept you cannot pause or save a MP game to leave it for a couple of minutes.

The German servers are pretty busy whenever I drop in. One thing I've noticed is there's not much chaos these days (which I kind of liked!), all the signallers know their stuff which is quite impressive really.
Really looking forward to the German route, would be nice to have a progress update on it at some point.

Good point. Also without being ungrateful if it is free, the scenery looks like more of the same. I know Poland is a fairly flat country but there are a few scenic corners, such as the line up to Zakophane, I think the town is called. Of course any semi rural section, maybe single track with a low service frequency not great for MP. Which brings us around to the same old chestnut. Needs work done on the SP game.
